-Trilogy is set in the (pre-Empire?) Old Republic era, let's sayyyyy 300 years prior to Episode I

-Yoda will be in the trilogy

-A desert planet will be involved somehow

-a minimum 50-being (non-CGI) all-out lightsaber battle will happen for the climax in the final film between whatever good vs. evil faction is established (Jedi vs. Sith, or whatever)

Deadline says Johnson's trilogy will be in a totally different galaxy, with entirely new characters.

The official Lucasfilm announcement uses the phrase "a corner of the galaxy," not an entirely new galaxy. I don't know where people are getting that from.

    Rogue One is good.

"Star Wars must have a bunch of lightsabers and the Force" gave us the prequel trilogy, so no thanks!

And is mostly superfluous to the movie, though.

The movie could have had zero Vader cameos and it would have worked perfectly fine without sacrificing the message it had.

"Johnson will introduce new characters from a corner of the galaxy that Star Wars lore has never before explored."

    Could be anything.

But that makes me a bit more excited, I guess?

Han Solo, arguably the most popular good guy from the whole franchise, does not carry a lightsaber and does not use the Force.

not just fine, it would have been better.

dumb quip scene added absolutely nothing and the fanservice scene actively detracted from the pathos of the rest of the ending

To be fair, we all should probably experience TLJ first and get a glimpse of what Johnson's vision for the series could be before diving off the deep end. I get that Star Wars' defining common denominator doesn't have to be space wizards and spaceships in a everlasting horn lock of good vs. evil but the series wasn't built on the intricacies and politics of moisture farming, either.

I'm still sticking to my desert planet prediction, though...

I'd love a whole series during the middle of Imperial rule.

Also I am dumb and bought Battlefront 2. There is a trial I can play for ten hours. It is downloading now. It lets me play a single player arcade mode and that feels pretty good.

Keep in mind, the term "core world" merely refers to the location of the planet in proximity to the galactic core. It doesn't have any bearing on how (un)important a planet is considered, that's more to do with how easily accessible the planet is via hyperspace lanes.

Oh yeah, I'm aware. The general lore is that the closer the planet is to the core the more influence the Republic or Empire has over the planet. Hence why Tatooine, Hoth, Dagobah, etc. are all Outer Rim planets. They escape the Empire's notice by being backwater planets.

I wonder if this new trilogy is supplanting any of the rumoured anthology films (Kenobi, Yoda, Boba Fett, etc). Seems like it might if they're intending on keeping it to one film a year.

The Vader joke was dumb in context with the tone of the movie I thought. At least the delivery of it. I think it seemed like his mask should have winked at me the way James earl Jones said it.
