Here is the first prototype of the PAX East 2018 Forum Badge as promised:

    FRONT:

    BACK
    4hy9f94huc2f.jpg

Please note that I have avoided using the words 'First Aid' and having any white crosses on the badge to prevent it from being confused with someone who is a first aid specialist at PAX East 2018. This is just a health and safety guide and should be treated as such.

Let me know what you think!

    It looks really good!

I noticed two minor errors on the back.

Typo: 1) Wash your hands with soup and water..
Extra word: 7) Deodorant is not optional, apply some it at least once a day.

I thought maybe the soup was intentional at first, and that each piece of advice would end up being factually incorrect in some manner, to aid the spread of the PAX POX, but that did not end up being the case.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll correct it and post an updated version later today.

However, consider this a vote for the above idea. I thought the same thing when I saw Soup and Water and I think that is hilarious.

    - In the US, it's a "backpack", not a satchel. "Use a backpack instead of a shoulder bag to avoid knocking other attendees around"
    - I'd add a note about pocket sized hand sanitizers; carry on your person at all times and use after touching any shared equipment (dice, controllers, cards, other PAXers [only with consent, of course] etc...)
    - I think the front could go even more videogame medpac themed. Maybe an Overwatch med pack or PUBG first aid kit? Health potions? Mushrooms?
    - Additionally, just an afterthought: why don't more hand sanitizer companies get in on the swag bag action at cons? Obvious, really.

I'm waaaay late to joining in this thread, but honestly the one I would've voted for was the victor. And oh my goodness, I think this is the best one I've seen yet. I'm a bit of a germaphobe, so it's absolutely perfect for me! Can't wait to sport one of these at PAX this year.

In all my life, I have learned three important things:
    1. Don't panic.
    2. Always know where your towel is.
    3. On no account allow a Vogon to read poetry at you.

Thanks for the excellent feedback, it's always welcome. The backpack is actually worse as that's the thing that has people being hit. I'm referring to a bag that sits on your side, therefore it's within your body's profile and not in anyone's way. You still need to watch out for it getting too full as people passing you can then get caught up in it.

With respect to hand sanitiser, I'm not a big fan of them as they really don't do as good a job as soap and water. If you use them then you're less likely to use soap and water and that won't help you in the end. It's for this reason I'll add a note about them, but as a supplement to soap and water, not a replacement.

Finally on the visuals, yes I think I'll go with a more video game health pack and see how that looks.

I have said bag. It's quite nice and I love it dealer...but it's not perfect, I have a couple minor complaints with it:
    1) Capacity, if I buy anything bulkier than a t-shirt, spaces gets to a premium
    2) it can be hard on the shoulder after a long day- but that's all messengers

Considering upgrading to a full Bag of Holding (assuming Thinkgeek is there and has them) this year. Which'll resolve 1, but 2 is a cross I must bear (Even with backpacks, I tend towards only wearing it on one shoulder for convenience).

That said, I DO find backpacks worse than satchels/messenger bags in crowded spaces- I've gotten nailed by oblivious folks with backpacks on the Metro more times than I can count, MBs tend to ride a little closer to the body.

As a former backpacker who purchased a Bag of Holding for PAX last year, I must say the difference is night and day. I always hate being "that guy" who becomes a nuisance to others (which is beautiful and poetic at a con filled with similar minded people), and BoH helped me keep my things to myself and finding said things less of a burden to those around me.

The major downside to the full Bag of Holding is its massive capacity also creates deceptive weight. I was raring to go with a full day's worth of necessities, until I picked it up and put it on. Halfway through the first day, my shoulder felt like I pitched 9 innings. A major lesson learned.

I still strongly recommend it, as I use it everyday for work. But be warned that just because the Bag of Holding CAN fit everything doesn't mean it should.

Oh, yah, totally. It;'s more for size concerns- I try to keep weight down, since I'm getting older and my back is already a mess from long periods of siting at the office + stress.

I still totally recommend the smaller Con Survival version- it's a stellar bag- i just want something with a bit more capacity.

I like the look of the Con Survival bag. It's on sale, so I'm strongly considering it.

I also noticed they have a messenger bag that I've heard good things about. Link is below.

I'd suggest making the virusy background on the back of the badge lighter, you don't want it to print too dark and make the text hard to read.

@kropotkin, I disagree about the sanitizer argument. It’s the single most important piece of health advice st PAX.

Bathrooms can be a 10 minute walk from some portions of the con, and sanitizing after touching every piece of shared equipment means you sanitize every couple of minutes. It’s not a matter of encouraging people to wash instead, because they won’t wash at all. Nobody is going to spend half of their day running back and forth to the washroom.

Encouraging people to do more to maintain hygiene is always - ALWAYS - a better policy than not.

@LexiconGrrl I'm just suggesting washing your hands every hour or so, not every 10 minutes. Sanitiser is good for short periods, but not as effective as soap and water.

As PAX East is now 1 calendar month away I need to post up timings for when the badges will be printed and when the names on the back are locked down. Here are the key dates then:

All names will be locked down on Sunday 25th March 2018

Badges will be printed on Wednesday 28th March 2018.

Agreed, but the point of carrying hand sanitizer is to disinfect every time you touch shared equipment. It goes a long way to keeping you healthy. When I'm on the main floor, I sanitize before and after touching anything, so like every 3 or 4 minutes. Basically, "Did you touch something / someone?" Sanitize. "Are you about to touch something / someone?" Sanitize. Etc...

I can't use hand sanitizer. It causes my eczema to break out like crazy. Seriously, it's like my hand are a breeding ground for hand fish, as I get these bubbles that develop under the skin and are painful and unsightly. I've considered chopping off all my fingers and replacing them with robot fingers, a part of my life-long scheme to become a full-blown cyborg. I say considered because that would mean a several-month hiatus from gaming, and I can't have that. Monsters ain't gonna slay themselves, you know.

Instead, I just go around and lick everything at PAX. If I'm going to get sick, I want it all.

While I agree that being insensitive is an issue, so is being oversensitive.

You collect them from the Pre PAX Board game night or from the BYOC desk during PAX East. Note that if you do the latter you will have to answer a question to prove you are an active member of the forums. The questions and answers are posted on this thread and they are easy to answer, provided you're a member of these forums.

I love the updates to the badge badge. Love the green

A suggestion for #6 and #7 just think it flows a little better.

    6. WASH YOURSELF EVERY DAY. DEODORANT IS NOT OPTIONAL. Apply some at least once a day
    7. Get 8 hours of sleep and eat three times a day
