It's been in early access/beta for ages.

So playable but totally not worth dropping ££££ on IMO

Also new Blood Angels codex out next weekend, so we can see how fucked up the chapter is after Devastation of Baal

I was under the impression that game never actually was released?

I was kind of surprised it came out as I was trying to find out what the Ynnari late last year were so random searches lead me to this

    And this

What lead me back to 40k was this
    8nq3ejzlx0kd.png
    gangs of commorragh

But the Ynnari is really what I have always wanted out of the aeldari since with the Dark Eldar aka Drukhari you were kind of handcuffed to take the Haemonculi and their toys to fill in the gaps
But you can do fun things with the Ynnari like build your troops of wyches and dire avengers with a Farseer as your leader
Drukhari needed someone with psyhic powers who knew?

Brad Angel's chapter thing is they get +1 to wound in the fight phase when they charge or are charged.

This is ridiculously good because now they can wound everything on 5s or better.

Hmm, the Witch Hunters Codex had an entire section devoted to why the Witch Hunters would fight X enemy. I can't remember the Tyranid reasons. One of the Ork ones was that a group of Orks had mistaken Khorne altar for a statue of Gork (or was it Mork?) and their chants were fueling Chaos energies. There was a Tau one, but I forgot the details. Most of them were "X is being corrupted by Chaos" or something similar.

Tyranids don't appear in the warp, iirc, so, they can't fall to Chaos I believe.

The Hive Mind is warp based isn't it?
edit- yep, Tyranids have a psychic hive mind. They have warp presence.
    edit- from a wiki
The Hive Mind is the gestalt collective consciousness of the Tyranid species. It is a nearly omniscient entity composed of pure psychic energy that originated outside of the Milky Way Galaxy. The Hive Tyrant is said to be a living vessel for it. It controls every Tyranid creature in a mental vice-like grip and directs their every action.
This control can be disrupted, however, with the death of the Hive Mind's synapse creatures through which it transmits and augments its psychic commands, such as when a Hive Tyrant's death leaves the lesser Tyranid bioforms to act completely on basic animal instinct. On the battlefield, certain large and relatively autonomous Tyranid creatures, such as the Hive Tyrant or the Tyranid Warrior, are able to telepathically exert the Hive Mind's influence in order to control smaller Tyranid bioforms, which without the Hive Mind's psychic direction would revert to the instinctive, non-sentient behaviour of feeding and self-preservation. These synapse creatures focus the Hive Mind's psychic gestalt into nodal points that quell the natural instincts of nearby small Tyranid bioforms and are an essential component for a Tyranid swarm's effective command and control.

The Hive Mind is so staggeringly complex in its power and construction that it either drives most psykers insane or kills them. The only known agent of the Imperium of Man believed to have looked upon the Hive Mind and retained his sanity is Chief Librarian Tigurius of the Ultramarines. This could be due to his uncanny talent for making accurate predictions in general, but the accuracy and frequency of his knowledge concerning the intentions of the Great Devourer seem to show he has indeed tapped into the Hive Mind, a feat thought possible only by a psyker possessed of power equivalent to that of the Emperor of Mankind.

The Hive Mind also has the ability to block interstellar communications and travel through the Warp due to the potent psychic presence it creates in the Immaterium, essentially disrupting the normal flow of psychic energy within the Immaterium in much the same way as a Warp Storm. This ability has become known as the "Shadow in the Warp"; the Hive Mind uses this power when it unleashes a Hive Fleet, cutting off astropathic communications to the besieged part of the galaxy and forcing vessels already in the Warp in the vicinity of the Hive Fleet to drop back into realspace, thus making a call for reinforcements impossible. This invasive psychic shroud sows terror and confusion on prey worlds as it traps and prevents the doomed inhabitants from calling for assistance. It even penetrates into the minds of nearby creatures and manifests as a primal malaise that can never be expelled. If a creature possesses psychic potential, then the horror they feel is magnified tenfold. Any use of their psychic abilities could unleash a form of incurable psychosis. As a Hive Fleet approaches a target planet, whole populations plunge into madness and despair even before the first Tyranids have made planetfall.

    Brood Mind
A smaller and more localised version of the Tyranid Hive Mind is created by the interlinking telepathy of a Genestealer brood. This so-called "Brood Mind" is used to control the host victims impregnated with Genestealer genetic material and create a Genestealer Cult. The Brood Mind also acts as a psychic beacon to draw a Hive Fleet towards the planet where its cult is located. Once the summoned Hive Fleet comes within range of a few hundred light years of the infected world, a subliminal reaction is triggered in the Brood Mind to goad the Genestealers into a frenzy of killing. This unleashes a violent uprising, which weakens the defences of the targeted world and makes it easy prey for the arriving Hive Fleet of the Great Devourer.

In Storm of Iron the Iron Warriors big bad is riding around in a Tyranid bioship which he's infected with a technoorganic warp virus. I seem to remember he has to effectively lobotomise it first and it took ages to succumb to the contagion. Still, that's about as heavy metal as it gets!

The minions are mostly beasts, (which aren't psychic?) and only follow orders. Genestealers are sentient and as intelligent as a person. They're psychic because they reproduce in a population and once they reach certain numbers their combined power acts as a beacon to the hive mind.

The smaller critters dont have much in the way of psyker abilities, but are very receptive to the hive mind, kinda like radio receivers. The bigger nasties can transmit as well as receive and the hive mind works it's will on the smaller ones through them. That's why they're hive nodes. Kill the nodes, and the smaller ones aren't able to pick up the distant hive mind anymore.

Tyranids don't appear in the warp, iirc, so, they can't fall to Chaos I believe.

The new Tyranid codex actually spells out chaos being a huge problem for the nids.

Someone mentioned earlier in the thread that they have no fail state but they absolutely do. When the tyranids absorb a planet they take its biomass. Most of the existing tyranids are also reabsorbed. But this means that if tyranids fail to invade, lose enough biomass in a way as to be unrecoverable or simply cannot absorb something they get a net loss of biomass. This isn’t including that it’s highly unlikely that the conversion of materials to tyranids is 100% efficient and they most have to burn some of it for energy. Effectively in theory, the tyranids could eventually run out (though it may take a while).

The codex lays out the creation of the new hive fleet Kronos as a reaction to the presence of chaos. It focuses on ranged combat to minimise the amount of biomass lost when fighting deamons, and is specially trying to prevent more warp rifts or daemon incursions after the Galaxy was split in two. The fact that the hive mind considers it a grave enough threat to itself to actively try to mitigate it even when it’s a loss of resources is pretty telling.

It’s also kind of interesting that it means chaos is a Milky Way specific thing.

In the Ciaphas Cain books, the genestealers are disoriented when Gunner First Class Ferik Jurgen of the 12th Valhallan Field Artillery is near, because he's a psychic null. Cain, who is the Hero of the Imperium, actually owes his life several times over to Jurgen's pariah status, because the 'stealers can't coordinate attacks with each other mentally when he's there.

Not disagreeing, but I always got the impression that the whole thing was essentially a satire of the Grim Darkness component of 40k, the impossibility of taking the melodramatic parts of the setting that seriously, and the ridiculous lengths you'd have to go to live through being a part of it.

Well, Cain starts out as an accidental Hero, goes on to become a reluctant hero, and ends up a hero that totally did not mean to do that heroic thing, honest, why wonät anyone believe him.
At the end, he basicly is just lying to himself about not being a hero.
