    The feels. Oh God, the feels.

  • briguybriguy Registered User regular
    Well
    Here I am.
    And now Jessie’s Girl is a sad song.
    ...
    I wasn’t prepared for this.

    annnnnnnnnnnd Protokid ate the rope

    He'll be back

    this was not goodbye. This was Farewell

  • Shadowed_Hand Shadowed_Hand Registered User regular
    Kram1032..I don't think so...for beyond those woods lies either absolution or destruction..perhaps one appearing as the other as well.

    Linus I'll miss you.
    ( Thanks Katie I'm dead :'D )

  • briguybriguy Registered User regular
    In a moment of levity, I just want to point out that Linus took both the only lantern, which I’ll give him the Deep Woods are dark, and the superior map of camp.
    I guess he left Malachi the rope.

  • ShamrockSeraphShamrockSeraph Registered User regular
    I knew this was the ultimate endpoint when I noticed the lantern on Linus' backpack a couple of weeks back. Didn't make it any less sad.

    Godspeed, Linus.

    I like the way Linus flaps his hands when he sings.

    Farewell, Linus! Rest assured the library will... uh... well. Better not to dwell too much on this.

    At least show us what the outside world looks like

  • te-kunte-kun Registered User regular
    There is no outside world. They are in a simulation and Linus will stop existing once he leaves the camp.

  • scuddlesscuddles Registered User regular
    This Death Stranding ARG is getting ridiculous...

    STEM sure is a weird place.

    I just want to note that it's taken six months of real time for the last day to happen in the comic! http://campcomic.com/comic/427

    In the dark goes Linus, carrying his lantern like Demosthenes, looking for an honest world. Good luck, son. We're still searching for it ourselves.

    Don't take the rope back! Tie this end to a tree! That way, people can find this place once more.

  • The GorchThe Gorch Registered User regular
    And thus Linus was exiled from Little Lamplight when he turned 16, and he set off to find his way to Big Town.

  • AgentParsecAgentParsec Registered User regular
    I'd have tied the end of the rope to the nearest tree so that from that point anyone can follow the rope to find the exit.

    ~~~ The Timeline is Safe. ~~~
    As Briguy said, Jessie's girl's now a sad song...
    One thought though - Linus did take the best map of the woods with him and he could theoretically add to it and plot the way out so he knows how to get back.
  • FlaxSeedFlaxSeed Registered User regular
    Right. Now that's go right in the chest. I am sad to see one of my favorite characters go (will he? Forever?), but, at the same time, I enjoy a lot the fact this comic has no status quo to adhere to
  • flipbtpflipbtp Registered User new member
    I'm not crying, a cat just scratched my eye.
  • hajenhajen Registered User regular
    imagine the surprise on Malachi's face when he gets back to camp and discovers that Linus took a shortcut and is waiting with the rest of the gang to throw a surprise it's-not-your-birthday party for Mal...
    ...otherwise, I might be very, very, exceptionally very, extremely very, infinity+1 very, very, did I mention "very" sad. 8-)
  • hajenhajen Registered User regular
    I didn't want to spoil my 'melancholy' post with this bit of speculation/ conspiracy-mongering.
    I just realized that is a lot of rope, as in I would think rope in that amount would only be available at the rope course...
    Did Linus pilfer it?
    Did he have contacts within the rope-course kids?
    Was he one of them when he was younger?
    Is Purdy his Jessie's-girl?!? Did he think that she and Brian were a 'thing' now and that he had to go into self-exile to get away from his feelings? :o
    This is last-episode-of-MASH level feels.
    Damn Katie no wonder you got a job at Nickelodeon, I am not one for posting comments, but as a fan starting from Strip Search I am really impressed. The peeps you work for should make your comic into a show. Good stuff can't wait for more.
    Hi. Long-time lurker here. I've been around since mid 2014 but never had an account to comment before.
    Just popping in to say how great this comic is and how much I love it. This page really gave me the push to finally come out and say it.
    Thanks for the inspiration :)
    Incredible work, Katie! Your keen understanding of internal conflict is inspiring! A thousand times, thank you!
    Malachi should leave the rope on the ground so he can find the exit himself if he later needs it.
    Adam gets the credit here for the internal conflict, as the writer of Camp W. :]
    Let me join the chorus of people who say that this is a great comic: this is a great comic.
    For what it's worth, I think that these kids are in the bardo - an intermediate stage between one's death and reincarnation. =Lincoln in the Bardo= by George Saunders is one interpretation of what the bardo might look like. This comic is another.
    There's been a couple comments about Mal tying the rope to a tree so others can find their way out. Given we've seen the (or a) road in, my guess is Linus' way out isn't going to be the same as anyone else's way out.
    As I look as the last panel Simon and Garfunkel’s ‘The Sound of Silence’ plays in my mind.
    “Hello darkness, my old friend
    I've come to talk with you again
    Because a vision softly creeping
    Left its seeds while I was sleeping
    And the vision that was planted in my brain
    Still remains
    Within the sound of silence”
  • sockroxsockrox Registered User regular
    Kinda cute that some of you are talking about an "exit."
  • tabletable Registered User regular
    Mal has grown up so much in this arc.
  • Peter RoganPeter Rogan Registered User regular
    The Road goes ever on and on
    Down from the door where it began.
    Now far ahead the Road has gone,
    And I must follow, if I can,
    Pursuing it with eager feet,
    Until it joins some larger way
    Where many paths and errands meet.
    And whither then? I cannot say.
    I'm only sad that Linus won't ultimately have the birthday party...
    "Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
    And I took the one less traveled by
    and that has made all the difference"
    Now Malachi can be the camp librarian.
    Just a song before I go
    A lesson to be learned
    Traveling twice the speed of sound
    It's easy to get burned
  • BlaiseCorvinBlaiseCorvin Registered User new member
    I am almost sure at this point that all of these kids are actually dead.
