[The 90s] nostalgia thread or like whatever.

To talk about all the things we still remember in the cool decade known as the 90s.

Like the fact that this Spice Girls song is now 21 year old.

The Mortal Kombat song.

and like this never gets old...like ever.

Funny thing I've noticed with people around my age (24) and a bit younger to a few years: anything that started in like, late 1999 or even 2000 gets lumped in with '90s nostalgia

Basically in peoples' minds, especially for folks of an age where memories of these things are malleable, the decade ended more with Bush and 9/11 than any actual date change

You all have the worst 90s taste

Needs more grunge, alternative, flannel, and airwalks

However, living up to the 90s era that was my past, I'm too lazy to link any of it

I think this happens with most decades that have a strong cultural image. A lot of the tail end of the 80s stuff spilled into 90 and 91 as well.

I was born in 1989 so I don't really have a lot of nostalgia for the '90s, but I feel like I should?

I'm far more interested in the stuff from the '70s and '80s I never got to experience.

Well that's mostly because culture doesn't really actually slot itself nicely into decades. Shifts happen at different times in different areas and major drivers of change, such as political upheavals, are on their own timetables as well. There were trends in music that started in the late 80s and by the mid-90s had already transitioned into something else. The biggest shift for films of the decade was arguably kicked off by Jurassic Park, a movie from 1994.

What people really remember is "stuff from my childhood" and they pick the decade that best fits that and then lump everything in there because it's easier that way.

    hey remember power rangers

My older brother and I were talking about this the other day, how there are like 24 different iterations of the Power Rangers.

Also, Boy Meets World was my favorite 90s show and I don't care if it doesn't hold up.

    Ah yes. The 90's.

We were all 19 - 28 years further from our inevitable deaths then.

My nephews used to confuse me and their other uncle Bryan (he's the husband of my brother's wife's sister, so I guess my brother's brother-in-law?). So they started calling him Uncle John and then the joke was that I was Uncle Bryan.

Oddly, some of the stuff I associate with the 90's were actually partially, or fully part of the late 80's

The 80's bled into the 90's because most of the stuff on television and radio in the 90's was actually created in the 80's.

Thanks to Syndication and Cable Television and not having enough shit to put on the latter.

Hell, Cartoon Network mostly played anime and cartoons from the 70s and 80s and also the Looney Toons.

All of the decades blend into each other from the 8th year to the 2nd year.

It's really years 3-7 that are definitive for that decade.

I do have to say, I miss '90s alt-rock and grunge. There's a modern alt-rock SiriusXM station and while they play some stuff I jive with, it's like maybe 50/50 I'll actually enjoy whatever song they're playing. The sound of just outside the mainstream alt-rock has changed significantly from the '90s. I find far more stuff that I like on their indie rock station.

I was born in '85, so for me "the '90s" is pretty much synonymous with "my childhood."

Nicktoons, the adventures of Pete and Pete and syndicated Looney Tunes were pretty much daily viewing.

The Adventures of Pete and Pete is quite possibly one of the best kid's shows I've ever seen.

Maybe it's the nostalgia talking, but that show just seemed to get it, y'know?

It had a lot of inventive storylines.

The guy what was definitely an alien and the kid that would only throw Rock in rock-paper-scissors are the two that stick out to me.

Pete and Pete was essentially twilight zone but written for kids in a really, really, really weird and niche way that I don’t think has ever been replicated because most any show like that nowadays is gonna be a cartoon with a budget to do creative crap.

Did I ever tell ya’ll my family was onstage for the finale of one of the Nickelodeon Live! Tours? Got slimed and everything.

Had no idea I was supposed to taste the slime, though.
