You never hear about Mobile, Alabama except in WW2 documentaries and media like one in five people are from there. It's super weird.

Sarah Winchester, she's the one who made the crazy stairs house. Not related to Sam and Dean.

    I finished XCOM2 last night.

It has the same interesting difficulty curve as the first: The game gets easier as you go. The hardest part of the game are the first few missions.

There are a few crazy OP things, though:
The Archon leader armour is bananas with a Ranger. I gave it to the ranger that I equipped with the Arashi and Katana. She was a wrecking ball, holy crap. Also, getting points to spend on abilities so you don't have to lose out on good ones in the ranking system is crazy. I had specialists that could do everything. And the Reaper unit? Good god, that feels like cheating.

I had a Reaper along on the last mission. In the Avatar fight, she never fired a shot because she scouted ahead and allowed my sniper to trivialize the battles.

The puzzle a bit on the cheezy side yes but at least its not one of those stupid 4+5 x 2 argument puzzles on facebook or one of those stupid pattern puzzles where they assign value to an icon but have like fries equal 5 but in one of the icons take out 2 out of 5 fries.

I'm kinda okay with those because counting things is a normal thing that people have to do. They're a little frustrating because the images are usually jpeg-compressed to shit and the icons are tiny and most social media usage is on phone apps. Whether you notice that one yellow clump of pixels is four bananas instead of five bananas has as much to do with your eyesight and screen quality as it does with your perceptiveness to detail.

But ultimately the skills involved aren't particularly weird, its just like counting up a bill at a grocery store. Each apple is worth 5 and each banana is worth 1 and you have to count how many you have of each.

The reason I think people get frustrated at the puzzle we're discussing in chat is because adding digits together without regards to placement is just not something that people do in any other context (except in conspiracy theories, numerology, and other wacky bullshit).

*shrug* i dunno, i used to spend a lot of time on the puzzling stack exchange and adding digits together is just one of a bunch of things you try when you're solving weird math pattern puzzles

i guess it's a context thing? it doesn't seem that weird at all to me.

the context is solely puzzles and therefore, fuck that

I'll gladly do some actual math, I'll enjoy that, but not something that cheats by not using the rules of math

Time is a discrete variable. Hours can be counted but you can have partial hours.

Some days (read: most days) it feels like a real chore to have to spend time on taking a bath/shower. I wish I could just toss this body in the bathtub and hop into my other body and slack in front of the computer while the main body gets clean.

An elegant puzzle doesn't need to obfuscate the information needed to solve it.

life's a game that you're bound to lose / like using a hammer to pound in screws
fuck up once and you break your thumb / if you're happy at all then you're god damn dumb
that's right we're on a fucked up cruise / God is dead but at least we have booze
bad things happen, no one knows why / the sun burns out and everyone dies

geez, next time you guys see a number puzzle and you notice a bunch of the numbers are multiples of 9, try adding the digits together of the numbers and see if that elucidates anything. Then you can feel smart, instead of complaining about how the puzzle is dumb because you didn't get it.
