Apparently Billy Corgan is trying to rebrand himself as William Patrick Corgan. Sure, yeah, whatever, you do you dude

But his album under his newly "authentic" moniker is titled after a misspelling of Oglala, an indigenous tribe that's been through some shit. Maybe the misspelling is intentional? Maybe accidental? I don't fucking know, because none of the coverage of the album that I've seen, or interviews with him about it, have acknowledged this weird thing he did. And the album art is a couple of people who look indigenous, but the outfits are kinda Party City?

I'm so confused by how few fucks the music press is giving to this weirdness.

His wikipedia page seems to indicate he took a turn for right-wing nuttery somewhere in the past several years.

Modest Mouse's The Lonesome Crowded West is 20 years old today (the 18th) and if you've never given it a listen I cannot recommend it enough. I discovered it about a decade after it was released and it was extremely formative for me and my musical tastes.

It's got some real passion put into it. Pitchfork made a documentary about the creation of the album a while back:

I love that album to such a degree that I can't talk about it with normal words.

Cowboy Dan is one of the greatest songs of all time.

I went to go see a Dessa show last week, and it was extremely good and she has a bunch of new songs and there is definitely a new record coming out soon and I am so fucking pumped.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zpb1gJyMKIs

But I'm pretty sure I've probably talked y'all's ears off about Dessa before, so let me also mention her extremely good opening act, the Xoe Wise Band. They're a local Chicago affair, and they were a ton of fun at the show. They don't have like, a ton of music out yet or anything, but you should check out what's out there:

I've been listening to a bit of Scott Walker's stuff recently, though particularly his work from the 60s

His version of My Death is incredible, I can't get enough of it, and I love Montague Terrace (In Blue)

Loving his stuff already, and I feel like I might just fall into his work like I did with David Bowie's so recently

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jLOTAJQF0Fo

I am hearing his more recent stuff in the last ten years is super different, but I'm looking forward to getting into it eventually

You should check out the Walker Brothers album Nite Flights. Scott has a song on that called The Electrician which is really something.

My initial reaction was definitely thinking this is one of the more bizarre collaborations I've seen in a while. But it makes more sense after thinking about it a bit - reggae was a major influence on the Police for a while. A little bit of Shaggy usually goes a long way for me, but I'm intrigued.

Yeah, they had technical difficulties out the gate (not sure what happened but all sound dropped about thirty seconds in). But once they got going it was a blast, despite, I'm sure, having to pick tracks that would be... ahem... acceptable in Singapore. :eyeroll:

Sylvan Esso, Moses Sumney and Father John Misty were all also fucking incredible. The music festival scene here is... I guess just not as big or something? I don't know but whatever the cause, we were able to get super close-up, so they all felt pretty intimate despite being a big outdoor venue. Anderson .Paak was a real party, though, for sure.
