To be fair that is a real harsh blow to twitch. I’d rather have them give her a self destructing normal drone during setup and lowering the shots to 10. 5 is way too low for how squirly the shocks can be.

Started winning all of my games this morning. Got a pack at 10% chance to top it all off. I couldn't ask for more, but my rare shotgun skin didn't add to my collection for some reason. :(

That's really strange, I've never seen the alpha pack rewards not be awarded. I've even disconnected while opening one and gotten it. Are you doubly sure it isn't there and wasnt a duplicate?

I finally found where it fit. I guess the skin was only for Rook.

The Twitch nerf really is for the gadget economy. Keep in mind her drone used to be slower, louder, had a blinking red light, and had an even shorter shock range. I really didn't think they needed to give her a shock drone in prep phase, and I think we're finally seeing them address that.

At higher levels of play on PC, you rarely see a shock drone get more than one or two gadgets on site before getting killed (but you can safely assume that all cameras are dead), but I hear that at lower levels of play on console the drone can be a real menace, so it might be more for the general population than anything else.

Also, I can't help but wonder if this is how they're addressing the fact that Dokkaebi's secondary ability of hacking cameras isn't all that useful. It's still better to kill the cameras, and by the time you get to a dead defender most of the interior cams should be dead anyway. Doubly so if attackers have a Twitch.

I just picked this up this weekend and aside from being the MVP when I baited the attacking team to shoot at me while I was behind the hostage, I've been mostly garbage. Special thanks to @AvalonGuard for showing me the ropes. Are there any good tutorials around I can watch to pick up some pointers? Also, any thoughts on finding a way to rebind leans off Q/E? I find it challenging sometimes to be strafing and leaning at the same time. Possibly rebinding it to mousewheel?

https://www.reddit.com/r/SiegeAcademy/ has some good stuff occasionally. Watching people play is one of the better things for this game since so much of it revolves around use of map features or specific set-ups or angles.

As for leaning, you definitely want to keep it on Q/E, but set it to Toggle instead of Hold. I'd also strongly recommend setting Advanced Gadget placement on, as that allows you to prime gadgets and then deploy them with M1, allowing you to stop the deployment at any time (allows you do things like Bandit Trick). It'll take some getting used to at first but it's leagues better.

Well this is a bit shitty

UPCOMING RAINBOW SIX RETAIL CHANGES AND OUTBREAK PACKS

    Main points
    • For some fucking reason, they're keeping the starter edition
    • The standard edition is scrapped and they're renaming it Advanced edition (and making it more expensive)
    • Anyone who buys advanced this year gets 10 outbreak packs for free
    • Everyone else only gets 4 outbreak packs for free
    • Outbreak packs are ONLY purchasable with R6 credits (which you can only buy with money)

    LOOT BOXES ARE THE WORST

The previous lootboxes were basically not pushed at all and didn't matter.

These are limited time items that you can only buy with real money. It easily steps over my 'stop playing or supporting this' line.

Edit: to be clear, not saying other people shouldn’t care.

    Nope

I bought the game (standard edition) last year with the year 2 season pass

This year I bought the year 3 season pass

I will get 4 outbreak packs

Someone who buys the new advanced edition will get 10 outbreak packs + the 4 we all get if we login during the event (so 14 in total).

The season pass I bought unlocks season 3 operators straight away but they can be unlocked with renown (an in-game currency generated by playing). These outbreak packs can only be bought with R6 credits which you HAVE to buy with money.

I mean yeah, it's only cosmetics but it's still quite shit

Imo, it's a bit shitty to have
    - a full pricetag (that just increased)
    - time / money gated characters
    - time / money gated cosmetic lootboxes AND
    - RMT-locked limited time cosmetic loot boxes

If the game was cheap / free, or the characters were easier to unlock, or the new loot boxes were folded into the alpha pack system, I'd be way more okay with the event. As is, it feels like they are trying to triple or quadruple dip with their monetization schemes.

My personal stance is that spending money in digital blind boxes is incredibly stupid, so I don’t. I vote with my dollar. Ubisoft won’t see a cent from me on these new packs.

If people don’t buy it, Ubi will lose money. My guess is people will buy it though. And at that point I find it hard to fault Ubi for doing it.

I'm waiting to see what they say as the season gets closer to ending. They're not quite getting hit at Battlefront 2 levels on reddit but the reaction to this has not been good.

There's already plenty of content in R6 you can't get without buying, but that content is all currently defined, buy x for y dollars cosmetic items, not a random 1 in 50 chance of getting something(I've bought Elite Rook, Elite Twitch(rip) and Elite Jager). If i could choose whether or not to purchase a specific Outbreak skin/item, just like the other LTO skins that have been around(Hibana and Mira Halloween skins that you can't get anymore come to mind) then I'd be more for this, it's just that random element that is a complete spit in the face.

Alternatively, if they made a Renown treadmill for the Outbreak packs either by replacing alpha packs with outbreak packs for the duration of the event I wouldn't be as miffed(and I could see many regular players feeling the same way), and I think they'd see a rush on outbreak pack purchases toward the back end of the event as people realized they haven't gotten 50 packs and are running out of time(I'm pretty sure playing casual regularly I still don't see 50 alpha packs inside of 4 weeks), while still buying back some good will with the community.

Year 3 Season 1 kick off

YEAR 3 SEASON 1 KICKOFF AND SNEAK PEEK - OPERATION CHIMERA AND OUTBREAK EVENT

    PERATION CHIMERA
Welcome to Year 3 of Rainbow Six Siege. Your continued support allows us to create new content and we’re thrilled to reveal what’s under the command tent. Push the flap aside and come on in. We’re starting the year with Operation Chimera and a new specialized CTU in the lineup.

Biological and chemical attacks are growing threats to Operators. Six created the Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear (CBRN) Threat Unit. CBRN is its own distinct CTU. The following two experts know what they’re doing and they’ll never turn their backs on a hotzone. These two new operators are joining the multiplayer roster and will also be playable in the limited time Outbreak event, along with other legacy operators.

One operator hails from France and uses a drone to maintain quarantine perimeters. Their service record is astounding, but their list of regrets seems endless.

The other operator moved to Russia to pursue their studies and they uncovered a range of applications for self-dissolving nanobots. All allies can benefit from the research carried out by this CBRN Specialist.

Within Operation Chimera is our limited-time event:

    OUTBREAK
Suit up and check your gear because Rainbow Six is tackling an epidemic consuming the town of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. Choose your best team of three to neutralize the threat. If you don’t choose your Operator in time on the Operator Selection screen, your man Recruit will still have your back. As always, he’s ready to serve.

This limited time co-op event is free for everyone who has a copy of Rainbow Six Siege. To learn more about Outbreak, check-in regularly on the Rainbow Six website. This event also offers exclusive headgears, uniforms, weapon skins, and charms to customize Rainbow Six Operators. For more information about the Outbreak Collection, please consult this blog post. But who’s the enemy in Outbreak? What’s new with the gameplay? What does our Lord Tachanka think of all this?

You’ll have to check our website often for more updates. To get all the intel your heart desires, tune in for the Six Invitational taking place in Montreal from February 13th to 18th, broadcasted on the official Twitch channel.

I'm less upset about the Outbreak packs being R6 credits only because my main operators aren't really included (I guess Thermite would be nice).

The new operators sound cool though

RNG lootboxes you can only buy with money (R6 credits count as money because you can only get them with money) are stupid.

I won't be buying any R6 credits to get outbreak lootboxes and the way I see it, it's just 4 chances to get Thermite's outbreak skin ( from the 4 packs I get for free).

But if I don't get it, I won't be spending more money for another chance. it's not a model i chose to support.

The season pass model I do though.

I want to love this game but losing most of the time and winning without any knowledge as to how I won gets old pretty fucking fast

It's not the best, but https://www.r6maps.com/ is a wonderful tool when you're still starting out (or when a new map drops and no one knows where anything is). One thing I'd recommend is spinning up some custom games and just strolling around each map, seeing how rooms connect (and what they're called -- the room names are down by the compass) and intersect and what rooms are above which. Starting out you won't end up seeing a lot of vertical floor play, but the fact that it exists at all is one of the reasons this game is so fantastic.

Another thing you can do is restrict what gamemodes you get queued into, from the Matchmaking Options in General settings (I think that's what it's called). This at least will let you play one mode on the maps, with respect to knowing where objective locations are and not having to learn the maps three different times because, for example, the bombs on Consulate are in different rooms than where the biohazard containers are in Secure Area. Once you're comfortable with that you can open it up. I'd suggest Secure Area first. Bomb is the most complicated because of there being two objectives to attack and defend, and the sites tend to play around with the maps in more interesting and complex ways.

I will freely admit that the new player experience is fucking terrible and one of the weakest areas of the game that they haven't done much to fix. Between the Starter Edition and poor low clearance level matchmaking, I can quickly see how people would bounce off of it without a second thought.

If you want some in-game pointers, feel free to add me on uplay: HansVollman. We usually have a group playing in the afternoons and evenings EST and would love to show you the ropes.

    DETAILS OF OUTBREAK EVENT REVEALED

Text details shamlessy robbed from the above link
    OUTBREAK DETAILS
The Outbreak event will mark the beginning of the third year of Rainbow Six Siege. We are grateful to the millions of players who have supported us for so long, and thanks to you, we are beginning a new year of Siege with a lot of exciting content ahead. To show our gratitude, we want to start Year 3 with a gift to our community, something truly unique. We hope you will enjoy playing Outbreak as much as we enjoyed making it.

    FORMAT AND DEPLOYMENT
Outbreak is a free coop event taking place within Operation Chimera. Over a duration of four weeks, all Rainbow Six Siege owners will be able to team-up with two of their friends to take on a mysterious threat. The Outbreak event will be deployed first on TTS on February 20th. It will then be playable from March 6th to April 3rd, for all of our players.

    SYNOPSIS
A few days ago, a mysterious space capsule crashed near Truth or Consequences in New Mexico. It turned out to be carrying an exotic parasite, the Apex, which infected the area and turned the town’s populace into monsters. The Quarantine Zone is the only thing keeping it contained but it will not last for long. If the parasite gets out, it would be a disaster of global proportions. Millions would die. Rainbow’s mission is to enter the devastated town and destroy the parasite’s roots before this happens.

    GAMEPLAY OVERVIEW
Outbreak takes the renowned Rainbow Six Siege gameplay and drops it in a new and fresh setting with an innovative twist. The parasite is unlike any threat the Rainbow Six team has ever faced before. From exploding monstrosities to hulking horrors, these armored monsters will bring the fight close and push the destruction engine to new heights – they won’t hesitate to tear through walls to get to you. Five archetypes of infected will challenge players in Outbreak, each with their own distinct abilities. Players must react quickly to fortify their positions and control their environments while under pressure. Play smartly and tactically to find new ways of using your arsenal, against a foe that doesn’t take cover and engages instantly in close combat.

There are two difficulty levels in Outbreak. The first one, Normal, will give a challenge to our players, but one they can overcome with coordination and team spirit. Where the real fun starts though, is with the second difficulty level: Pandemic. In this mode, friendly fire is on so watch were you’re shooting! Additionally, enemies can take you down with only a few hits. Smart tactical play and team play are the only way to prevail. In this punishing difficulty mode, only a select few will succeed… Will you be brave enough to dare it?

    THREE NEW EXCLUSIVE COOP LEVELS
Three new exclusive coop-oriented levels are playable in Outbreak. These maps are bigger and more open than PvP maps, with sizable sections entirely outdoors. Being designed for coop, they are also more linear and feature a clear sense of progression. Nevertheless, the destruction and multi-path approach that are iconic to Rainbow Six Siege are still very much present. Will you go in guns blazing, or quietly sneak through a side door?

    PLAYABLE OPERATORS
Not every Operator has the right skillset for this mission. The development team had to make an informed choice in who would be playable in Outbreak. We made a selection of Operators who are the most adapted and relevant for this specific game mode, from a design standpoint.

This is the list of playable Operators in Outbreak:

    • The two new Operation Chimera Operators

    • Smoke

    • Ying

    • Buck

    • Kapkan

    • Ash

    • Doc

    • Tachanka

    • Glaz

    • And last but not least, our faithful Recruit!

What I find odd is that the event is limited to certain operators but the list of outbreak specific skins doesn't match, IE you can get an outbreak specific skin for Thermite but he can't be used in the event.

  • Options

There are rumors that they're bringing Outbreak back sometime in the summer, so I wonder if they've got X amount of Outbreak skins ready to go for this round, and then they'll pad out the rest of the roster when the event comes back.

What really bothers me about them adding real money loot boxes is that there are now like 7 different ways to acquire cosmetics. There isn't any consistency between any of them, either.

    You've got:
    -Renown purchases from operator menu
-Renown purchases from shop (that sometimes aren't listed in the operator menu! As an example, hit the Bundles menu and scroll all the way down for Capitao's Cap'n Bundle. Cap's got a pirate bandana that isn't listed in his Headgear menu, but is a renown purchase)
-Items that are R6 credits only (elite skins, some helmets and such, and, paradoxically, renown items that are bundled for R6 credits only)
-Digital Items (real money purchases that don't involve R6 credits, available for purchase both in game and externally)
    -Alpha packs for renown
-And now Outbreak Packs for R6 credits

    It's madness.

Definitely deliberate obfuscation. That way you can't exactly tell that you've spent 350 dollars on a single game in one place(really though, I've bought 2 season passes, a 90 day booster and at least 3 elite skins, I'm probably around 150-175 in a this point).

The only reason I don't think it's totally deliberate is that a lot of the inconsistencies got cleared up as the game has aged: the fact that all renown bundles are available for both renown and R6 credits versus the bundles of renown items only being available for R6 credits (there's the Ceifador bundle, as an example, which is a Y1S3 thing). You still have Renown/R6/Digital Content/Season Pass though so I get where you're coming from.

Personally speaking, cosmetics are neat but not a dealbreaker for me. The starter edition existing in its current form bugs me way more than the outbreak lootbox fiasco, for instance. The game has a steep enough learning curve without introducing another layer of horse fuckery that is tripling the cost of OPs.

I like loot boxes when you can buy them with in game currency you generate by playing. Money only rng loot boxes can fuck off though. I won't be buying any. The consolation is that they're cosmetic only so there's no pay to win element

Yeah, I am very surprised that they haven't come up with an "Upgrade from Starter to Standard" method yet.
