Is there a bullet-point summary of this assumed trainwreck? I saw a lot of "that was outright fascist" and only one example.

It starts out with tax cuts and economy cheerleading and stays there for a while. The fascist stuff only starts really creeping in the somewhere middle, he spends a lot of time on MS13 and the immigrant crime. The boo line was when he went for the "chain migration" canard, overall he basically stuck with the last weeks' far right-wing immigration plan and spent a bunch of time and color outlining and backing it.

The pants-shitting horror inducing parts were sprinkled throughout different parts of the speech. He made a not very veiled request for congress to give him more powers for political purges early on, requesting more nukes for a better doomsday device was a little later, and the anti-North Korea tirade was towards the end.

Sorry, don't have a bullet point list like you ask for, but the thing was a slog to listen to and I need to limit my exposure to it. Every section was loaded with emotionally manipulative anecdotes too, I think Obama might have done those some too and they sure haven't aged well.

Edit: oh, and something about opioid addiction was in there. Keyword was "something". Not really much substance beyond cracking down on drug dealers and depressing stories.

IIRC, the opiod part underlined just how much he (and probably Miller) really don't understand the issue

The speech underlined how he didn't understand many issues, but the opioid crisis was a big one.

Athenor summarized it point by point, if you start from the beginning of the thread.

Here we go with another round of applause, introduced by Ryan.

Starting to talk about how swiftly he took action, and optimism, and how they have gone forward with a clear vision and righteous mission.

Making incredible progress and success, challenges, expected and unexpected. Shared in victory, pains of heartship. Enduring floods, fires, storms. Beauty of soul, steel of our spine, each test forging American heroes.

Talking about the Cajun navy, and now talking about the hail of gunfire at Vegas. First name drop (attending) of a Coast Guard lady.

Ashley was a first responder on a helicopter, basically, to save 40 lives. Sounds like a cool lady.

    (btw, I enjoy transcribing)

Another first responser, David, firefighter, rescued 60 children at a summer camp in the Calif. wildfires.

He did mention Puerto Rico as being affected.
    38thDoe wrote: »
WHat did he say about the vegas shooting? Almost thought about banning something that was used in it but did nothing applause?

Just a recap of the horrors in the last year. Briefest mention.

Now talking about the congressman who got shot, calling Scalise a legend.

He is grinning at that applause.

Now talking about Police (starting with capital), and all the rest who helped with the after math of the attack. Unexpected applause break.

    First mention of coming together.

"It is not enough to come together in times of tragedy."

Set aside differences, find common ground, and find unity.

"This is the key, these are the people we were elected to serve."

    Death stare from Pelosi.

Oh wow, actual boos. Schumer is clapping lightly.

"No people on earth are as fearless, determined, or daring as Americans."

Talking about mountains, frontiers, taming challenges, siezing opportunities.

Begin by recognizing that State of the Union is strong because our people are strong.

Together building a safe, strong, and proud America.

Now switching to jobs (creating 2.4 million jobs) - unexpected applause break

Including 200,000 new jobs in manufacturing. "Tremendous numbers"

After years of wage stagnation, we are finally seeing rising wages (some D applause, not much)

Unemployment claims have hit a 45 year low.

Very proud - African American unemployment stands at the lowest rate ever.

(Actual African Americans not really getting behind that)

Hispanic level reached lowest in history as well.

Small business confidence at the highest.

Talking about the stock market gaining 8 trillion in value.

"Great news" for Americas - 401k retirement pension and retirement savings is through the roof, and Americans were promised - enacted biggest tax cuts and reforms in history. Very loud applause from the R's, boos from somewhere else.

Talking about the tax rates, what it did - lowering the standard deduction, etc.

Now, first 21k earned by a married couple is completely tax free.

    Doubled child tax credit.

Typical family of 4 making 74k will see their tax bill cut by 2k, slashing tax bill in half.

In April, this will be the last time you will ever file under the old and very broken system, and more will have more take home pay starting next month ("A lot more")

Eliminated cruel tax on people making less than 50k a year, because they couldn't afford health care.

Repealed the core of the ACA, the individual mandate.

Slashed business tax rate from 35% down to 21% so American companies can compete and win against anyone else, anywhere in the world.

    (So many applause breaks!)

These changes alone will increase average family income by 4,000 (A lot of money)

Small businesses can now deduct 20% of their business income.

Now name dropping small business folks (beautiful business in Ohio)

Finished best year in their 20 year history.

Because of tax reform, they are handing out raises, hiring 14 people, and expanding into the building next door.

Also talking about an employee. Hired by Staub, trained to become a welder. Called it a "tax cut raise," gonna put the money towards kids education and his home.

Should mention he's African American just for the record.

(He's a great welder, told that by the owner)

Since passed tax cuts, 3 million workers have already gotten Tax Cut bonuses, many thousands and thousands per worker, and continuing to grow.

Name drop Apple about 350B investment in America, hire 20k workers.

Exxon-Mobil just announced 50Bil investment in the US.

Gonna try to slow down, I don't want to dominate this.

"This is our New American Moment. There has never been a better time to live the American dream. To every citizen watching tonight, no matter where you've been or where you come from, this is your time."

You can dream anything, you can be anything, and we can achieve anything.

Tonight, wanting to talk about what kind of future we will have, and nation we will be.

All of us together as one team, one people, one American family, can do anything.

We all share the same home, the same heart, the same destiny, and the same great American flag (WTF?)

    Together rediscovering the American Way.

In America, we know faith and family, not gov't and buracrecy is the heart.

"The motto is IN GOD WE TRUST." bad yell into the mic.

We celebrate our Police, military, and veterans who should get our total and unwavering support.

Talking about a kid who started an organization that places flags at veteran gravestones. Ahh, this is the kid next to Melania, I thought that was his kid!

Young Patriots are teaching us about our civic duty.

    "Reverence" for those who served.

Yeah. Talking about putting hands on hearts, and standing for the National Anthem.

They muted the mics a bit during that.

Americans deserve a government that shows the same love and loyalty in return.

Sought to restore the bonds of trust.

Working with the Senate, appointing judges who interpret the Constitution as written.

Talking about appointing judges, and how they've appointed the most ... missed the end staring at Gorsuch being stonefaced.

"Totally" defending Second Amendment, and protecting Religious Liberty.

Serving brave veterans, including giving them choice in health care (emphasis on Choice)

Good God he loves applauding into the mic.

    lady checking her iPhone. :)

Now talking about VA accountability act.

Since its passage, admin has removed 1,500 VA employees who failed to give veterans care they deserve, and hiring talented people who love our vets as much as we do.

Will not stop until vets are properly taken care of, which has been promise since the very beginning of this great journey.

All Americans deserve accountability and respect, and that's what we are giving our wonderful heroes, our veterans. (thank you)

Tonight, call on Congress to empower every Cabinet secretary to empower good employees, and remove public workers who fail the American people.

Drive to make accountable, removed more regulations than any administration in the history of the country.

Ended the war on Energy, ended the war on beautiful clean coal.

Now very proudly an exporter of energy to the world.

Halting government mandates in detroit, talking about revving its engines.

(these small bits are hard to follow the thread with)

Car companies expanding plants, something we haven't seen in decades. Chrysler moving a major plan to Detroit from Mexico, (Japanese) companies opening plants in Alabama. It's all coming back.

Very soon, plants will be opening up all over the country.

This is all news Americans are unaccustomed to hearing. For years, they only left us. Now they are coming back. They want to be where the action is, want to be in the USA.

Exciting progress is happening every day.

To speed access to cures and generic drugs, the FDA approved more new drugs and generic drugs and medical devices than ever before in the country's history.

Also believe that Patients with terminal conditions, illness, etc, should have access to experimental treatment immediately that could potentially save their lives.

People who are terminally ill should not go country to country to seek a cure. Give them a chance here at home. Give these wonderful Americans the right to try.

Greatest priority is to reduce the price of perscription drugs.

(man, the cheering section near the mic is annoying)

... he just motioned to the Dems to stand up.

Talking about drugs being far less than in the US, and how it is very unfair.

Directed the administration to fix the injustice of prices one of the top priorities of the year.

    "Watch" prices come down substantially.

Now talking about turning the page on unfair trade deals, chipping away..

Ooh, he just talked about trade deals .. he rolled "Wealth" on his tongue.

The era of economic surrender is over.

Trade will be fair, and very importantly, reciprocal.

Work to fix bad trade deals, negotiate new (good) ones, that are fair.

We will protect American workers and IP through strong enforcement of trade rules.

As we build our industries, it is time to rebuild crumbling infrastructure

(still motioning to the dems to stand)

America is a nation of Builders. Talking about building the Empire State Building in a year. Now it takes 10 years to get a permit to build a simple road.

    (uhhh.)

Asking both parties to give us safe, fast, reliable, and modern infrastructure that economy needs and people deserve.

BTW if this is 50 minutes I call BS.

Calling on Congress to produce a bill that invests 1.5 trillion in infrastructure. Every federal partner should be leveraged with state and local, and where appropriate tapping into private industry, and permenantly fix the infrastructure.

Any bill must also streamline permitting and approval process, getting it down to 2 years, and maybe even 1( go figure, the real estate mogul focusing on the permitting process).

We will build gleaming new roads, bridges, rails, highways, waterways all across our land, with American heart, American hands, and American Grit.

Want every American to know the dignity of a hard day's work, and every child to be safe at home, and every citizen to be proud.

We can lift our citizens from welfare to work, from dependence to independence, from (something) to prosperity.

As tax cuts create new jobs, let's invest in workforce development, and invest in job training that we need so badly.

(So far, for the record, only 1 concrete number has been spoken)

Let's open great vocational schools so our future workers can learn a craft and realize their full potential.

Let's support working families by supporting paid family leave (hoots over that, but the applause is a lot lighter)

As America regains its strength, opportunity needs to be extended to all citizens.

Talking about inmates getting a second chance at life. ( prison reform)

Struggling communities, especially immigrant, will be helped by policies that focus on helping Americans.

Now talking about drugs, and competing workers, against immigrants.

Most importantly, caused the loss of many innocent lives.

Another call out to audience members. Wow, they look upset.

Talking about the savage MS 13 gang. Talking about them entering as illegal unaccompanied minors, ended up in their high school.

Everyone is paying for you, everyone is grieving for you.

320 million hearts breaking for you (more applause).

We cannot imagine the depth of that kind of sorrow, we can make sure other families never have to endure this pain.

Tonight, calling on congress to close the deadly loopholes that allow gangs to enter the country.

Proposing new legislation to support ICE (great people, who work so hard in the midst of such danger so that this can never happen again)

    Hesitant applause at first.

United States is a compassionate nation

We do more than any other country to help the needy, the struggling, and underprivileged all over the world

My highest loyalty, greatest compassion, greatest concern is for America's children, struggling workers, and communities. Want youth to achieve great things. Want poor to have chance to rise. Tonight, extending an open hand to both parties to protect our citizens of every background, color, religion, and (emphasis his) CREED.

My duty, and sacred duty of every elected official, is to defend Americans, families, communities, and right to the american dream.

    Because Americans are dreamers too.

    (hoooo fucky.)

Another callout, a leader - CJ, serving 15 years in Air Force, then becoming ICE, fighting gangs and criminals. At one point, MS 13 ordered his murder. He did not cave to threats or fear. Last may, he commanded an operation to track down gang members in Long Island, arrested 400, including 220 MS13 gang members.

What the border patrol and ICE have done, have sent thousands and thousands and thousands of MS13 horrible people out of this country or into our prisons.

Ask CJ, what's the secret? "We are just tougher than they are."

Now let's get Congress to send you (and the chamber has no choice), sending reinforcements quickly, it's what they need.

Over next few weeks, will be voting on immigration reform package (motion to Dems)

Met extensively with dem and rep, to craft bipartisan approach to immigration reform. Proposed detailed plan that is a fair compromise. No one gets all they want, but the country gets the critical reforms it needs and must have.

    Four pillars of plan.

    1) Generously offers a path to citizenship for 1.8 million illegal immigrants brought here at a young age. Covers almost 3 times more people than the previous administration covered. (very light applause)

Those that meet education and work requirements, show good moral character, can become full citizens over a 12 year period.

    2) Fully secures the border.

That means building a great wall on the southern border, and hiring more heroes to keep communities safe.

(this is the first detailed proposal he's made all night)

    3) Closes loopholes that are exploited by criminals and such.

Ends the practice of Catch & Release.

Oh, third pillar ends VISA lottery that hands out stuff without regard for skill, merit, or the safety of the American people.

Time to begin to move towards merit based system.

Admits skilled individuals, want to work, contribute to society, and who will love and respect our country.

Fourth pillar protects the nuclear family by ending Chain migration.

Under current broken system, they can bring in unlimited extended family.

(boos from a lot of the room)

Under new plan, limits to spouses and minor children.

This vital reform is required for our economy and security, and for the future of America.

Citing the terrorist attacks being because of the VISA lottery and chain migration.

We can no longer afford these risks.

It is time to reform these outdated rules, and bring immigration system into the 21st century.

Four pillars represent down the middle compromise, and a safe system.

Talking about failures to solve the problem. Saying this congress can finally make it happen.

Most importantly, these 4 pillars will fufill my iron-clad promise to put America first.

So let's come together, set politics aside, and finally get the job done.

These reforms will support our response to the terrible crisis of opiopd and drug addiction - calling it terrible, need to do something about it.

Lost 64k Americans to drug overdoses.

We must get much tougher on drug dealers and pushers if we are going to stop this "scoourge" (so... doctors?)

Administration is committed to fighting the epidemic and getting treatment to those in need and those terribly hurt. Struggle will be long and difficult, but in the end we will succeed and prevail.

Seen tonight, difficult challenges bring out the best in America.

Another family - Ryan Holets, adopted opiod-addicted baby (according to the chyron)

Saw a pregnant, homeless woman about to inject heroin. Told her she'd hurt the child, but didn't know where to turn. Ryan felt God speak to him, took out a picture of the wife and 4 kids, and told wife, they would adopt the child. Named the daughter Hope.

You embody the goodness of our nation.

As we rebuild American's strength and confidence at home, we are also restoring our strength and standing abroad.

(wait, what about the drug war)

Calling out China and Russia as challenging us.

In confronting these dangers, we know that Weakness is the surest way to conflict, and untold strength to something.. sorry, missed it.

Calling for end to Defense sequester.

As part of defense, modernize and rebuild nuclear arsenal, hopefully never using it, but making it so strong and powerful that it will deter any acts of aggression by any other nation or anyone else.

Someday in the future there will be a magical moment when the countries eliminate their nuclear weapons. Unfortunately, we are not there yet (sadly).

Last year, also pledged to extinguish ISIS from face of the earth. 1 year later, proud to report that the coalition has liberated close to 100% of the territory just recently held by these killers in Iraq, Syria, and other locations.

There is much more work to be done. We will continue our fight until ISIS is defeated.

Now talking about Army Staff Sargent Justin Peck, talking about him and his comrade clearing rigged buildings so that civilians could return soon and safely.

Clearing second floor, the other officer was severely wounded. Sgt. peck bounded in to the unbelievably dangerous building to find Kenton in bad shape. Applied pressure to the wound, inserted tube to reopen airway. Then performed CPR for 20 straight minutes during ground transfer. Maintained artificial respiration for 2 1/2 hours through emergency surgery.

Racca is liberated, other soldier is recovering, Sgt. is wearing bronze star with V for Valor.

BTW, in case anyone is wondering, typing is keeping me from having to watch him. :)

Terrorists who place bombs are evil. Where possible, we have no choice but to annihalate. Where possible, we must be able to detain and question them.

We must be clear - terrrorists are not merely criminals, but unlawful combatants.

When captured overseas, they should be treated like the terrorists they are.

We have foolishly released hundreds and hundreds in the past, only to meet them again in the battlefield. Referenced Al Bagdhadi.

Today, keeping another promise. just signed an order directing Secretary Mattis (who is doing a great job)...

To re-examine our military detention policy, and keep open the detention facility in Gitmo.

Asking congress to ensure that in the fight against ISIS and Al-queda, we have all necessary power to detain terrorists wherever we chase them down, wherever we find them. For them, now it will be Gitmo.

At the same time, our warriors have new rules of engagement (as of a few minutes ago)...

Along with heroic Afghan partners, no longer undermined by artificial timelines, no longer tell enemies our plans.

Last month, took an action to recognize Jeruselaem as the capital of Israel (something about high support in the Senate?)

Shortly after, dozens of countries voted against America's soverign right to make this decision. In 2016, American taxpayers sent those countries 20 billion in aid.

Tonight, asking to pass legislation to ensure American foreign dollars only go to friends of America.

As we strengthen friendships around the world, we also are restoring clarity.

Now talking about protests in Iran, talking about courageous fight for freedom.

Asking Congress to address fundamental flaws in terrible Iran deal. Also imposed tough sanctions on Cuba and Venuezuela.

No regieme has oppressed its citizens more than the dictatorship in North Korea.

Reckless pursuit of Nuclear missiles could threaten our homeland.

Waging a campaign of maximum pressure to prevent that.

Past experience has taught us that complacency and concessions only invite provocation.

Will not repeat mistakes of past administrations that got us here.

Only look at depraved character of the regieme to understand the national threat and what it could pose to America and Allies.

    Invoking Otto Warmbir.

Otto's wonderful parents are here along with brother and sister. Another family call out.

Powerful witnesses to a menace that threatens us, and your strength inspires us all.

(for the record, I'm not a fan of either side doing these emotional prop stuff)

Tonight, pledge to honor Otto's memory with total American resolve.

Finally, joined by one more witness to the nature of the regime.

Ji Seong Ho - 1996, starving in N. Korea. Stole coal to try and sell for fuel. Fell asleep. Train ran over his limbs. Endured multiple amputations.

Family ate dirt to give him food.

Later he was tortured after returning from a brief visit to China. Tormentors wanted to know if he met any Christians. He had, and resolved to be free.

Traveled thousands of miles across China and SE Asia to Freedom. Most of his family followed (So.. chain migration?)

Today, lives in Seoul, rescues other defectors, broadcasts into N. Korea the truth. Today, he has a new leg, but still keep the old crutches as a reminder of how far you've come.

Great sacrifice is an inspiration to all.

    (Has crutches with him)

Story is a testament to the yearning of every soul to live in Freedom.

Nearly 250 years ago, gave birth to a special place called America.

It was home to an incredible people with a revolutionary idea that they could rule themselves. That they could chart their own destiny, and that together they could light up the entire world.

That is what our country has always been about. That is what Americans have always stood for, strived for, and always done.

Atop the dome of this capital stands the Statue of Freedom. She stands tall and dignified among the monuments to those who fought and died to protect her.

Callout to Lincoln and King, Yorktown and Saratoga. Normandy, others who went down in the waters of the Pacific.

Freedom stands tall over one more monument - this one, this capital, this living monument. This is the monument to the American people.

    USA chant just broke out.

We are a people whose heroes not only live in the past, but all around us, defending hope, pride, and defending American way. They work in every trade, they sacrifice to raise a family, they care for children at home and defend flag abroad. Strong moms and brave kids. Firefighters, police officers, border agents, medics and marines.

Above all else, they are Americans. This capital, city, nation belong to them.

Fuck me this is gonna be called presidential, isn't it?

Our task is to respect them, listen, serve, protect them, and always be worthy of them (Americans) - fill the world with Art and music. Push the bounds of science and discovery, and forever remind us of what we should never, ever forget.

The people dreamed this country, the people built this country, and it is the people who are making America Great Again.

As long as we are proud of who we are and what we are fighting for, there is nothing we cannot achieve. As long as we have confidence in our values, faith in our citizens, and trust in our God, we will never fail. Our families will thrive. Our people will prosper, and our nation will forever be safe and strong and mighty and free.

    And God Bless America.

    (aaaand done).

Fucking hell, 1 hr 20 minutes.

    That was absolute drivel!

Jesus christ that speech was long, that post is right at the max character length. couldn't even put the w on the now.

I left Athenor's commentary in as is because I'm not putting any more effort into that copy/paste job than Trump did for this SOTU. Plus I get a chuckle out of thinking trump actually said it, and we all need what levity we can find.

I'm trying not to Godwin here, but when Trump gives a rabid nationalist speech like that, and for the last few days I've been frequenting the Marienplatz in Munich, Germany, where almost 100 years ago Hitler tried and failed to seize power in the Beer Hall Putsch...it doesn't give me good feelings.

Can we keep a running tally of articles that contain This Is When He Truly Became President? I love the phenomenon because it occurs in great number after any speech where he stays on message and disappears two days afterwards when he retweets or tweets something terrible.

I hear "Alien & Sedition Acts" more than "Beer Hall Putsch" but I'll admit they've got a similar rhythm to them.

Nice. Other than our local Republican house member praising it, national NPR is going hard against the tone and tenor of the speech.

Jeez, nevermind, had to turn off NPR temporarily. They brought on the head of the RNC to ask if this reached out to the divided Republicans, and immediately she went into how it was bipartisan and how the tone was perfect.

I know you always circle around family, but even that small bit was disgusting to listen to.

I 100% cannot be bothered to watch the actual State of the Union, but I'm watching Kennedy's response now and it's real good. "We choose both" needs to become a rallying cry for the left.

Wanted to say I appreciated the work you did last night, Athenor.

But find it kind of hilarious that you gutted through eighty minutes of Trumping last night, but a couple minutes of NPR drove you to distraction? Did Trump break your bullshit tolerance filters?

Duckworth on locally talking about how she is happy to hear the emphasis on infrastructure, but she doesn't believe the percentage of public/private partnership proposed is a hood idea. After all, county roads can't support tolls, and pothole repairs have no financial return for companies.

Man, his shit about asking to be able to purge the federal work force is disturbing as fuck but kinda seems to have snuck under the radar. I didn't even notice it the first time.

Most of the building codes that make construction annoyingly slow are entirely local. So Trump can talk about wanting to make it simpler all he wants, but he can't actually do much to speed it up.

You say that but Republicans are starting to deregulate with "lower governments can't do stronger regulations neener neener" clauses. I could totally see Congress trying to pass an "Asbestos and cardboard are perfectly fine building materials food, state and local governments can't enact stricter regulations" act.

Let's face it, there's no floor to how low these nutcases might go.

The "I'm going to shoot myself in the foot, but first you're going to put your foot on top of mine" type of 'fuck you' politics.

I'm upset both at how long I debated on that and how I currently feel because you correctly called me out.

Nah, that's just paranoia and conspiracy theories.

This has nothing to do with Putin at all. This is 100% pure Trump. Trump demands loyalty and obedience above all else and does not understand the idea of the federal government as an independent entity from his own whims and desires. This is the guy who thinks the DOJ are "his lawyers" ffs.

He just wants to shutdown the investigation and fire anyone who said anything bad about him or is disloyal to him or doesn't do what he says, regardless of the legality of it or the chain or command or procedure or any of it. Because in his mind the federal government exists to do what he says cause he's President.

So I only 'watched' bits of Trump's endless speech as filtered through Stephen Colbert.

When Trump spoke about how America has "ended the war on beautiful, clean coal" I wanted to scream. I have some anxieties concerning climate change and I worry President Trump may not be taking sufficient steps to ameliorate the effects of climate change. I mean, I already thought that, but to hear the dude brag about how he's actively making things worse, is... not very encouraging.

Also, that bit about "annihilating enemies" sounded in no way monstrously genocidal or anything. I'm sure the USA under Trump will restrict itself to annihilating convicted terrorists.

Calling clean coal "beautiful" was just ... weird to me.

Like, who uses that phrase and how does it make any sense and what is it even supposed to be conveying.

It isn't even what the coal industry claims is clean coal. He is calling regular coal used in regular coal power plants clean coal.

That's probably all Trump... it's one of his favorite words. Remember he's used to spending all day hyping up luxury hotel and golf courses.

In the context of his speech, what does "end 'catch and release'" even mean? That policy was "stopped" in 2006 under bush, but sometimes gets used as the idea that illegals are just out on bail while awaiting immigration court? So stopping that means keeping potentially innocent people in jail ruining their lives as a precaution? The current doctrine is "dont build cases on dangerous people, just grab anyone and everyone anytime" which seems haphazard and dangerous at best.

This seems like the purest of dogwhistles, its not even referring to a policy that exists? At least with chain migration you can argue a point because its cemented in a falsehood, "catch and release" seems to mean nothing but 'fuck immigrants'

    Indefinite detention

He means indefinite detention of anyone even suspected of illegal immigration.

    So basically concentration camps.

    Speaking of which:

Rep. Matt Gaetz, Rookie Garbage Person of the Year, invited a holocaust denier, and DailyStormer legal crowdfunder, to the SOTU.

Gaetz said that he and Johnson did not discuss the Nunes memo and didn’t interact much at the event at all. Asked if he planned to stay in touch, Gaetz replied: “He has my number.”

Who knows if he knows what the truth is? Unfortunately now and for all time, Republicans will think that's how the diversity lottery works/worked. And trying to explain to them how it actually is/was will just provoke a partisan slapfight.

Along with Kennedy and Guzman giving the official Democratic responses, Bernie (for himself), former Dem Congresswoman/Senate candidate from Maryland Donna Edwards (for the Working Families party, a third party), gave alternate responses as well. I can't seem to find youtubes of them, but the links have at least partial transcripts and PBS had a quick clip from each. Maxine Waters was supposed to as well but I can't find any evidence of this.

Isn't that whole thing weirdly eerie? Normal street, oh look those mark where people tried to walk to avoid Heiling Hitler.
