This "season" was great but man
They always used the sentries to keep the deaths PG friendly, but wow, a lot of people just die this season when you consider all the graves, battles, rebel ships being destroyed and Narti

Yeah, I was pretty surprised when they showed
one of the rebel pilots just being disintegrated. Feels like vehicle deaths are usually left ambiguous like, "oh yeah these battlecruisers are staffed by robots or whatever, don't sweat it".

Also pretty sure one of the Blades straight up stabs the artillery commander's assistant guy off-camera. The sfx they used sounded uh... wet.

    Wasn't a fan. (Season 4)
I kind of had the Lotor turn spoiled for me (headlines for stories I didn't read indicated there was going to be a shake-up with the good guys), but I figured Lotor was smart enough to realize that "the witch" had mind control powers and would use them on either himself or whoever he brought with him. Bringing Narti, I figured was a defense for that or he planned on exploiting that kind of connection for some long game either to involve Haggar or something to that effect. To have that entire thing go to shit ending with Narti's supposed murder, and then having all of his generals turn on him, feels more like bad writing then anything else.

Also the freaking Paladin uniforms don't match the Lions yet and it is irritating as hell. Especially since it also doesn't match what's in the opening credits.

You guys know that each time a Galra capital ship blows up, that's a ton of Galra bodies that are just corpses now, right?

Like, they try to mitigate that by showing all the robits that are on ships and especially in the fighters, but on every capital ship they have had to have a captain and the bridge has had multiple Galra on it.

Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.

Yeah this show might have waited a while to show deaths on-screen but it hasn't shied away from heavily implying a LOT of them

like, way more than A:TLA or Korra ever did

The Netflix subtitle for that was
    Fleshy noise

And whilst yes there's a lot of Galra cruisers and such shot down, the ratios of crewman to sentries seems tiny. Sometimes it feels like there's only five or so actual Galra on each ship. Which is what I assumed, I mean they have an empire than spans multiple galaxies, it would make sense that manpower is thin on the ground and explains all the robots despite Galra being pretty up on personal honour.

Those capital ships are huge. I'd expect about 50 to 100 Galra per ship and maybe a thousand or more robits.

I need to watch it again, but (S4)
Lotor said "my mother Honerva", right?

Does that mean nobody except Zarkon knows the Haggar-Honerva connection? I forget if it's an open secret among the Galra or not.

Hagar had even forgotten her past identity.

I don't think it's an open secret or even a secret, so much that Zarkon and Hagar's personalities have completely overwritten the people they were.

    Also....HOW OLD IS LOTOR?!

Man when you think about it, Lotor's hella old, and him being hella old doesn't make anyone bat an eye.

    It's either:
    - Galrans age hella gracefully
    - Royalty get quintessence infusions so they don't age, and it's a normal thing
    - Galrans think their royal family is immortal, or something

    I thought for sure that
Lotor was going to secretly be building a new weapon to fight the dark quintessence so he could restore his parents. He would have had to lie to his lieutenants and Hagar about the mission. He would have had a singular goal that nothing could get in the way of, explaining the attack on Hagar's spy, all the attacks on the Alteans/Voltron and why he lost interest in Voltron once he got the trans-reality ore, and why he generally didn't csre about actually running the empire.

Gonna be kinda bummed if it turns out to just be looking for more power.

Yeah. Up until last season I was under the impression that Zarkon looked the way he did because he'd kept himself alive for thousands of years using quintesssence.

Then we get the S3 ep that shows him and Hagger got mutated after basically swimming in that shit, and apparently that's just how they've always looked since ten thousand years ago.

So if the quintessence IS what's keeping them alive, it probably doesn't have any effect on their appearance.

So, something from the trailer I've picked up on after watching it a few times...
Sounded like Lance was the one giving the orders to the squad. Not saying he steps up to the Black Lion, but if he ends up as the leader, that's definitely a big change from Shiro or Keith.

So far we've seen some of the paladins experience growth -- specifically Pidge, Shiro, Keith, and Allura. It makes sense that we'd eventually see Lance grow into a more leader role and less of a showboat.

He's the only one without being the major focus of an episode, right? I also think Blue is the only Lion without a Voltron Upgrade.

    Hi, I'm back!

Wow, that was fun, binging 2 seasons back to back!

A couple things. First, a spoiler for the upcoming season that was revealed recently, and this is confirmed to tie in to the next season:
We are getting a toy of the Upgraded Voltron from the end of S2 and apparently what is kicking off when all 5 bayards are inserted at once.

    Toy-Fair-2018-Playmates-Voltron-029.jpg

They are also releasing a toy with the shield and the cannon (finally) and other toys that show really neat effects that we haven't seen in the show yet.

Second, re: The big bad and the Alt-eans:
Assuming there are only 2 of these comets that exist across all realities, the Alt-eans do have a piece of it, and they know what it will do. That's the key back.

I also believe they are NOT the same reality the first comet opened a rift to. That place? That place is BAD, and given the personality shifts of Hagar (whose original name I can't remember), I'm fairly certain that creature was influencing her. You can see her start to fight back, but I just can't imagine her being that evil. Zarkon, maybe...

So the end fight will involve sealing the rifts somehow.

    Third, Lotor:
Yeah, it's pretty obvious that once he gets his third ship built, that he'll have his own Voltron. Hell, the final episode of S4 telegraphed that: "A new defender." Given that I assume that his one general is Keith's mom (hence why he looks so human, he's only 1/4 galra), there's definitely a Zuko vibe growing here. The question is whether or not Lotor was born before or after the evil big bad stuff influenced his mom.

With 3 ships, that means only 3 pilots. I have my bets on how that's gonna play out. Still, the fact that the ships don't have personalities and aren't living things like the Lions is weird.

    Fourth: Earf:
We still haven't heard a PEEP from Earth yet. They obviously have advanced tech, but are somehow completely outside the Galra influence. Without a third comet I doubt they'll be making the Voltron Vehicle Force, but I do suspect they'll fit in somehow. Too much setup of the Galaxy Garrison.

    Fifth, Shiro:
Too many questions about him. It seems like every phase is about stressing him, putting him in more and more dangerous situations. He makes an amazing leader, but they can't keep relying on him, and I think earlier thoughts about him being a clone are accurate. He might be an experiment to see if Quintessence can be used to link one mind into multiple bodies, or something else that might fit the shadow creature.

    Sixth, Sven:
I loved that Alt-sven was the complete opposite of a coward, plowing headfirst into danger in a way that no one else would.

... I should probably update my avatar/sig and such. Thank you, all, for not ruining things for me. :)

I know nothing about the old series, but it feels like opening a wormhole back to Earth and recruiting help wouldn't be the worst idea. they make a big deal about how they need allies (sure Voltron can trash anything it runs into, but it can only cover one place at a time), and Earth could probably offer some help there.

Failing that, they could at least give them a more compelling case of 'look out for purple spaceships coming to set you up the bomb' than Shiro's shouting in the pilot.

It'd obviously cause some problems when Earth objects to these recruits having control of Voltron (and I don't know how stupid Earth's leadership are in this. Would they make a deal with the bad guys? If this were the Marvel universe I'd give it 1-1 odds), but that's all good drama.

If they do, it should be a really rubbish knock-off that Real Voltron trashes with no effort.

Proper Vehicle Voltron could come later.

It would make sense if Earth makes a vehicle voltron, since the Galaxy Garrison is there and that's where the original vehicle Voltron came from. I think.

    Gosh.

Zarkon is in the Astral Plane with Shiro, he ain't dead. Haggar is spying on Voltron through pseudoShiro? Keith's mom oh gosh. Lotor's heel turn is going to be incredible at this point.

I really wish Pidge had a conversation with their dad about calling them Katie, but the fact that he was calling them Pidge before he left settles Pidge as Not Cis for sure in my mind.

Zero, it's really strong and good the whole way through, unlike last season which was definitely a bit cringey in parts.

There's one bit that's goofy humor but it's REALLY GOOD goofy humor and doesn't take over the whole episode.
