That was a hilarious amount of frustration especially since Pat A: power leveled most of the game, and B: did a not insubstantial amount of bragging before the Ringed City started.

That and the "endless staircase". :P

Ok Dark Souls 3 noob here. I never dabbled in Infusions so I have no clue. Just opened up the first shortcut in the cathedral of the deep and I’m wondering if I should infuse my longsword+4. Already got 27 vig and 20 end and started working my way to a quality build. Can I get something out of infusing my weapon at this point?

You'll always get something out of infusing your weapons! At low stats, Raw or Elemental infusions will give a strong damage increase, while at higher levels of the scaling stats you'll get more out of using an infusion that scales well with stats.

Lol. I believe it was DS1 that had that narrow high walkway with the knights on the other side with these huge bows that chucked spears at you. After that, the archers were small fries.

There must be something in the air, cause i restarted DS3 this past week. I'm following loosely a guide I found on youtube and im at +4 sharp sellsword Winblades just at the crystal sage boss. Doing pretty well i think. Last time i gave up on the lotheric brothers fight, but I'm hoping to finish the game this time with a different weapon set.

More DkS3 updates. The Smoldering Lake took me longer than I thought. That stupid demon boss isn’t kind on melee fighters.

Ok time to hit Irithyl (sp?). It kinda looks like BB’s Cainhurst?

Doing a Dex/Luck run with the Notched Whip and Buckler + Dagger. It's hilariously effective, except in the few cases where it isn't, and then I get destroyed. Very swingy difficulty.

Got a little cocky after soloing a pair of Aldrich Faithful invaders with the Whip (plus Carthus Bloodring I must admit, but hey, it's post-nerf). Some recent invasions haven't gone quite so well.

    Got the usual invasion in
Archdragon Peak after summoning Hawkwood to help with the ridiculous horde of Serpent-men, who are a real pain with this weapon setup let me tell you.
But this invader was very polite, running away from me and Hawk until I grabbed the two key items at the end of that bit. The invader then proceeded to destroy Hawkwood, a summoned Sentinel, and then me. But, again politely, right by the bonfire, and with a friendly bow afterward rather than the gross stuff I often see these days (Stalk Dung Pies are the worst).

Ultimately it was my own fault for losing. I nailed two parries, but I had my whip out for each of them and panic-mashed incorrect button sequences to hotswap and riposte. The invader's deadly combo of a one-handed katana of some sort and a crossbow blasting lightning bolts (or the knight's crossbow with some other bolt) proved too much with those key errors.

I've never been comfortable enough with souls pvp. Occasionally I win vs invaders, probably because they're much worse than me or they're trying meme builds.

Nearly every time if I get invaded I know i'm living on borrowed time until they locate me or finish toying with me. The few times I decided to invade I usually find myself up against twinks or people with end game escorts.

My problem is when I invade people they just run and summon an endless horde of friends to wear me down and kill me. It's essential to 'git gud' when you have to carve through 3-6 players to get to one before they end you

Guys I've been running a sharp sellsword twinblades the last week or so. The weapon is fine, but what im wondering is the rest of my gear. I have tons of titanite shards/large and a good bit of twinkling.

Should i just be upgrading the mercenary gear i started with or are there better direct upgrades, hopefully with less weight. I've removed the breastplate alltogether to get quick rolls, but would love to get some more armor back on me. currently at 27 vig/20 end / 40 dex / 11 vit

ds3 doesn't have armor upgrading. just wear the best you can while keeping your roll.

Doh... well i mean are there armor sets that are similar or better damage protection but lighter

probably. there's generally not really upgrades per se

you just go over what you have and optimize however you can. different armor sets and individual pieces within sets might have a betteror worse ratio of weight to poise or damage resistance or elemental and status resist

The most important thing is to have some kind of armor equipped in every slot. Empty slots absolutely destroy your resists.

Also, Fashion Souls is best souls.

Edit - Or just wear Dancer's gear when you get there and call it a day.

Havent killed dancer this new run yet. I just killed the skeleton king guy and the old fire demon in the lake, I went into the first DLC early, got to the boss but have not been able to kill her yet.

I suppose i could try dancer, but i think i need a co-op partner and so far while ive seen some people ghosting around me, nobody will help me kill bosses. :p

I would leave the DLCs until you're just before the final boss of the base game, they're both harder than the rest of the game.

If you want a co-op buddy for a boss you need to summon one! If you're Embered you'll see summon signs on the ground, summoning a White phantom will give you a co-op friend.

Oh I know the game rules, I've played DS games for a while. This is actually my second runthrough of the game, first i gave up on the twin princes boss. this time im trying a different weapon set in hopes it will work out better. I've dropped my signs, just no responses.

Dropping your signs will result in people summoning you, which won't give you credit. To summon someone to fight a boss with you, you need to use a summon sign that appears on the ground in your world.

Right. certainly not seeing any signs on my side, and that they dont respond to my own, just says the online population is pretty low right now, or they are all pvpers.

Oh, yeah, the online population's definitely low. DS3 is what, two years old at this point? Very few folks are still actively playing. What Soul Level are you at? I think 120 is still the largest population but even then the playerbase is just really small at this point.

Btw on PC at least, most summon signs are near bonfires instead of the fog gate.

PS4 playerbase is still quite active thanks to regular sales. Dancer signs are typically found right in front of the fog gates, at least on PS4. They're not especially common as compared to a bunch of other bosses, but I tend to see 1-3 during common play hours.

If you're not finding many signs or getting summoned, there are a few possibilities:
    • You're playing in a quiet time slot. Though I find many players still around, it's rather dependent on time of day. If you need co-op help, see if you can manage to play that part during peak gaming hours.
    • You're over-leveled / over-upgraded. The latter is difficult to manage if you don't really know what you're doing, but it's easy to over-level if you grind a whole bunch. Of course this would make the bosses much easier, so probably not a huge deal.
    • You're under-leveled / under-upgraded. This is double-bad because the boss is harder, too. You can see if this is the case by looking for the Ember symbols next to teleport destinations at a bonfire, excluding any PvP-centric areas. If they're tending to show up a couple areas behind, you might want to consider grinding for either souls or upgrade mats.
    • You got soft-disconnected from multiplayer. While this was rather obvious in say Demon's Souls, it's much more subtle in Dark Souls 3 because you'll still get Messages and Bloodstains. Basically this just means your latency is too high, so it won't pair you up with anyone. If you're on wireless, try connecting a cable to see if it helps, or just wait a little bit (and make sure nobody else is streaming videos or anything while you're trying to do a boss). Also sometimes it seems it can take a little while for the multiplayer to load when you first start the game or enter a new area (again apart from Messages / Bloodstains, which are immediate). You can tell if this is happening if you don't see any Ember signs anywhere on teleportation and you're not over-leveled.
    • You got soft-banned for too many disconnections during multiplayer. Try using your Way of White Circlet to restore online play. If you already used it, check your coffin in the Cemetery of Ash (game start location) to see if a new one has spawned yet.
    • PC: You got soft-banned. Hackers can apparently inflict this on people by making it seem as though you intentionally cheated. I don't know much about this or have any advice for dealing with this.

Hmmm..I’m SL 90ish and still can see the ember Icon near the Boreal Dancer boss fight.

Btw, any recommended level for Friede? It looks...rough to say the least.

Well, I almost got her first stage down at SL 40 or so with a +4 sharp sellsword twinblades. but decided to come back later. The thing thats suppose to make it easy is to get a partner, backstab her while shes focused on him, charged R2 move, then double sword L2 move...its a very damaging combo, after first stage, partner and the summoned geal distracts her while you deal with the father, then go back and repeat combo on frede third stage but i cant get behind her to backstab without a partner to distract her.

    That's probably because
that bonfire is also used for both the Consumed King's Garden and the first and fourth(?) parts of Lothric Castle.

Though, I can totally see people powerleveling to 90 before Dancer, probably while grinding covenant mats on the Anor Londo stairs. I've done it myself on my way to the platinum trophy.

I'm mostly just progressing simply to get access to Titanite Chunks, and an evenutal slab. I'm at +7 now, need one more chunk for 8, then 6 more for +9. I think you can get a slab not too far from where I am.
