Beyond being just plain weak, they're too one note to be interesting. You either rush Mecatol and grab it (which is almost impossible with Ghosts in play) or you get left in the dust. If you do grab it, you just spam infantry to fortify it and hold on as long as possible.

Well, it's more that the First-Game Galaxy has fewer empties than usual. Rather than taking two blue-backed systems out as per a normal six-player game setup, the First Game Galaxy removes two red-backed systems. So it's unnaturally rich, compared to a standard game.

Ah, I didn't realise that that first galaxy didn't conform to the usual tile distribution
I think that casts even more doubt on the Space Lions Space Turtles strategies as they always seem to assume everybody is far more plush with resources than we experienced in those first two games

Ah, my post should have said "blue-backed" (i.e. has planets) and "red-backed" (i.e. empty or red-bordered), rather than "blue/red bordered". In any case, there's no way for any galaxy to be more rich than what is presented in the First-Game setup,

They always use the player-made galaxy setups.
They always do co-op galaxy creation (not a million miles from the two current games here) but haven't mentioned switching out empty tiles for anything else. Their strategies just never seem to be resource limited, which I've always found quite peculiar
