The only Star Wars game I ever really played was Shadows of the Empire on N64, and man that game will always have a special place in my heart. It, along with the N64, were surprise Christmas presents. The music blew me away, and I felt really immersed in the Star Wars world. I loved the variety of gameplay - flying ships, racing around on hoverbikes, platforming, shooting, adventuring, puzzles. Great game.

I also enjoyed Shadows of the Empire. Dash Rendar was also my first Star Wars toy in the 90's. My first Star Wars game however was on the SNES. For the N64 Star Wars games I always enjoyed Rogue Squadron.

Same for the giant attempts at chasms, gorges, trenches, massive dry docks, etc., in Jedi Knight--for all the engine's limitations, it was pretty amazing to look down from the edge of a walkway along a gorge and see a flowing "river" you could actually drop down into. The Cloud City Gas Refinery (and the associated weather spire?) recreated for Mysteries of the Sith still impress me to this day. Sort of like how some people did stunningly realistic recreations of city blocks as custom maps in Duke Nukem 3D (before recreating urban landscape became a normal thing in 3D gaming).

Yeah, I remember that level in particular - Jan Ors drops you off at the very bottom of a floating gas refinery thing, so you're starting on a teeny-tiny platform with an infinite abyss below you and need to work your way up from the outside until you can get inside the refinery. Really dang awesome for its time.

I actually meant the multiplayer map for Bespin, where you can re-enact the duel at the end of ESB (complete with chopping off part of the weather vane like Darth Vader). It was included with the expansion.

That being said, JK2's level where you have to infiltrate the cargo ship via the refueling depot, which I think you're describing, is still really cool--even if accessing the final hatch is a little intuitive? It was also the level included on the demo.

Guys, we're getting confused. The Cloud City gantry/carbon freeze chamber multiplayer map was from Mysteries of the Sith, Jedi Knight's (Dark Forces II's) expansion. Jan Ors dropping Kyle off on the bottom of Cloud City was from Jedi Outcast (Jedi Knight II). Fuel Station Launch was from Jedi Knight, the 9th level of the single player game and also the demo.

    You're welcome.

There was also a Jedi Academy map where Wedge Antilles dropped you off on a Bespin (or Bespin-esque) fueling station.

I also still have a Luke Skywalker figure still in the package from the Star Wars Special Edition opening night promotion in a basement somewhere.

    Tentatively awesome-ing.

One thing's for sure; after all the dust has settled from this one, it's going to be odd after the last three years to not have a Star Wars movie opening shortly before Christmas.

You know it’s not until just about now that I realized Han Solo is being played by the “would that it twuh so simple” guy.

Up until about January I'd been just assuming that SOLO was this year's Christmas release and the whole May thing blindsided me.

The first Hobbit (I know, I know) was supposed to be done two days before the premiere. I think it ended up being even closer than that.

This is correct. And also what I said.

(Figures I remember multiplayer maps and demos better than I do the new films.)

There was a Cloud City multiplayer map in ... I wanna say Dark Forces 3: Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast.

Multiplayer in that game, generally speaking, was amazing.

Great, now we're going in circles.

Unrelated, but Jedi Academy--which a lot of people found inferior to Jedi Outcast, but I actually played a lot more--had a fantastic modding community. There was a massive FFVII-themed map (including parts of the airship Highwind, the Midgar undercity and the Shinra Headquarters Building) that took several minutes to load but was worth it.

This is not the worst metaphor for Star Wars as a franchise, I think.

There was a “Tibanna Gas Mining Station” multiplayer map in regular JK, but the actual Cloud City recreation was in MotS. I loved those games growing up, and there were so mnay mods to play with. Jedi Oucast was kind of disappointing, although the Yavin IV levels were cool. Loved Jedi Academy too, even with the hokey storyline.

I'm curious to see what the scrapped Michael K Williams version of the character was like. Did they redesign the role for Bettany, or just throw him the same costume like, "hope this fits".

    Edit: Looked it up...
"...the character [was] reworked from a motion-capture alien (described by Williams as half-mountain lion, half-human) to a scarred human" (Source)

So, we probably won't see it except in concept art.

What makes a ship faster or slower in space? Shouldn't they all be probably equally stupid fast with differences of acceleration?

Honestly it is mostly acceleration. When you are dog fighting you rarely have a long enough time for a Ywing to get to its max speed

Starwars battlefront 1 had a cloud city multiplayer maps and flying maps. They were gorgeous. Kinda nice change from fighting in dark forests or frozen tundra to city fighting in a brightly lit beautiful city.

So the droid's name is L3-37? That better get pronounced the way you'd expect.

I hope the character is good at least, because Phoebe Waller-Bridge is awesome.

I want to hear the Lando laugh. I am hoping Glover really hams it up.

I felt the same way on rewatch. I think the pacing issues are a lot better on repeat viewing when you know what's coming. The opening half doesn't feel as interminable.

In general, if I found a movie disappointing the first time around, I often like it more on a rewatch. I'm no longer distracted by frustration/expectation, and can better enjoy whatever it actually is. I encountered this phenomenon a lot on my recent MCU rewatch odyssey.

It doesn't necessarily mean I change my mind about whatever problems I had the first time (though sometimes it does), but it can take the focus off of them.

I've also come to appreciate how heavily my perception/enjoyment of a movie is influenced by the environment/circumstance/company/state of mind/mood that I'm in when I watch it. There are movies I've absolutely loved that I would have thought were terrible in other situations and vice versa.

Don't get me wrong, it has issues. More so than your average Star Wars. And I can see why people don't like it, that's a fair opinion.

But, I think once I was able to accept the movie for what it was, and not what I expected it to be, I liked it a lot better.

Really? I thought it was public. I haven't read the article, but why then did I always think (and lament) that this Solo thing was supposed to be a trilogy?

There were rumors back in 2016 but nothing concrete.

Also this doesn't mean that there will be a Solo trilogy, just that there's 2 more movies that Alden could potentially appear in as Han Solo.
