They said their strategy is based on Legion, so... Dunno? Plus the need to balance tweak via upgrade cards is now dramatically reduced, especially if they can ban individual pilots from using certain upgrade slots.

In a lot of cases I suspect it'll come down to a lot of each wave already being faction specific. It's not that hard to stick the four new cards that work for any faction in every faction's stuff.

Thus far Legion has not had this issue. Any cards that are not faction or unit specific are mirrored across factions for that type of unit. For example, Corps units (stormstroopers, rebel troopers, snowtroopers) all come with the same grenades and equipment cards that both factions can use. Same with any vehicle units that have released so far and Veers & Leia appear to have the same neutral cards as well.

I just hope they can keep it up and that it bleeds into their other properties.

The stream said all the generic upgrades will be in each conversion kit. Going forward though, who knows.

If memory serves, generic upgrades were also duplicated across the Runewars Minis packs I picked up.

The more I think about it, the more anxious I am to try 2e, but the less interested I am in actually buying it.

    Having really conflicted feelings here.

I'm sort of the opposite? The more I think about it, the more excited I am to try it, and even picking up some of the new sculpts (especially the ones with moving bits).

    It's me, I'm the mark.

Had a 5 round tournament yesterday. 6th place overall out of 16 with 2 losses, 2 wins and a bye.

For not having played in over a year I'm super happy with that result as the first loss was down to 1 hull on the opponents defender. I could have won, but gambled and lost so thems the breaks.

I really think 2e has me willing to sell off some factions to help afford conversions for others. Lots of hard thinking to do.

as someone who's been out of the game for a while i'm interested in seeing this shape up

especially how they build the resistance from three ships into a real faction

  • italianranmaitalianranma Registered User regular
They're going to need the new directors' help on that one. Whatever your feelings on the new trilogy are the lack of new ship types is shameful!

They haven't released a new model A-wing yet or those transport ships if they wanted to. Not sure if there were any other hidden models in the hanger bay.

And wasn't the transport Leia arrived in Force Awakens a modified B-wing? Looked like it.

I don’t think it was a modified B-wing, but it did fly “sideways.”

Hah! Not a modified B-wing - it was basically an Ugly with B-wing parts, stolen / knock-off hyperdrives, cargo containers ... I love it more than i used to!

And the ones they do make are awful. Yes I'm looking at you Resistance Bomber...

With any luck, they were all destroyed and will never get made again. And the split engine design on the T-70 really bothers me for some reason. Probably just me though.

My guess is it won't be exclusively unique ships. There will probably be A-Wings in both Rebels and Resistance, but with different pilots and potentially different ship cards.

Awww, I like the Resistance bombers. They're like big, ugly B-52's which is exactly what they were going for.

With tin foil armor, based on how shrapnel from other ships so easily piered through them.

I was hoping for a sturdy bomber ship, but instead they dropped and blew up at the slightest hit.

as the big y-wing fan, i do kinda like the resistance's horrible deathtrap bombers

    they're uh...very appropriate for TLJ

I definitely want to see how fantasy flight makes the a-wing mk 2 distinct from the original one

They are massive glass cannons considering one has enough payload to destroy a capital ship with 300,000 crew.

I think outside of the tabletop and some of the novels, Star Wars planes are no different from real life planes when it comes to survivability. So, thin aluminum plating that wouldn't stop a bullet (seriously, I had a friend take battle damage from an AK-47 in Afghanistan). The survivability comes from having redundant systems, and most of the time after getting hit your main concern is to get out of immidiate harm's way and bring the jet home (if you can). Flying with armor just isn't worth the weight. And honestly if you look at the structure of a military jet it's all fuel tanks, radar, and weapons. Sometimes they give you enough leg room that you can scootch from side-to-side when you're butt gets numb from flying for too long. Seeing how spacious the inside of a Tie-Fighter is in Rebels has me making the frowny "are you kidding me" face.

Actually going back to that scene in TLJ you're referencing, I know everyone gets wrapped around the bombs dropping straight down without gravity, but what really bothered me was that they armed them inside the jet itself. That's super dumb, and no bomb in the history of bombs has worked like that because of exactly what happens there. That and the fact that their 'escort' was flying in formation with them. If you're escorting a high value asset you need to be well out in front of them.

Is it appropriate or ironic that the only scum ships I own are a pair of IG-2000? I didn't know about the brobots meta until after I had them, just that they were designed to work together.

Counterpoint I: Star Wars apes WWII movies which did depict war with as much realism as they could muster, owing to wartime surplus and plenty of vet experience. Given the conceit of dogfighting in space, a New Hope adheres closely with its sources.

Counterpoint II: In a thread about a game about aerial combat, I thought you might appreciate some anecdotes about the source material.

edit: In hindsight I think my tone here comes out more forceful than I wanted. I know Star Wars is not realistic, and that doesn't really hurt my enjoyment of it. My post is more to the point that in a topic that discusses some aspects of pretend aerial combat modeled after WWII aesthetics, here are some tidbits you might find interesting.

Agreed. Star Wars is a great depiction of WW2 combat, but has issues when (spoilers for TLJ)
you undermine it by adding shit like a ship accelerating to hyperspace through a much larger ship and completely destroying it, which makes you wonder why all Star Wars combat is not just autonomous drones just large enough for a hyperspace engine flinging themselves into targets at universe-sized distances.

Because it didn't destroy the Supremacy? It did damage sure, but not enough to render the ship irreparable or even take it out of the fight for long seeing as how they were able to land a mini-deathstar laser and walkers on planet shortly thereafter.
I mean, it was barely enough to knock Snoke off his throne, and he had already been cut in half. A severe impact should have been bouncing all of those bodies around his throne room like one of those Fisher Price Corn Poppers.
Second, it should be easy enough to move any vessel of reasonable size out of the way one you realize the enemy is going to go all hyperspace kamikaze on you (Reasonable size, in this case, let's guess <10km).

  • italianranmaitalianranma Registered User regular
Once Star Wars space combat exceeds its WWII roots I gotta bow out of the conversation. It just gets increasingly silly.
