Even if you know nothing about Norse mythology the game will explain what's relevant to its story. Though I would recommend maybe brushing up a little on said mythology because it makes certain story beats so much more fun.

Beat the last optional boss, got the Platinum
Turned down the difficulty to easy which I don’t feel guilty about in the slightest. Because I’m not going to grind for decades in order to get super fancy armor completely leveled up, and screw trying to fight a Valkyrie with double the HP of a regular Valkyrie and the full array of bullshit attacks while I’m playing on normal.
“I was quick when I came in here, I’m twice as quick now”
-Indiana Solo, runner of blades
Are there any tips for the first part of the third trial? I just always eventually get hit by one of those blind things and lose 80% of my hp in one go. Not fun.
I wish I could play this game but I don't have a PS4.
Perhaps I should rectify that. I'll need more than God of War 4 to justify the investment though...
Anyway, I watched the whole plot in an 8 hour YouTube video.
Is it terribly bad that I
don't think Kratos should've interfered between Baldur and Freya?
It seemed rather hypocritical.
If we’re taking his past actions into account, it is absolutely hypocritical. It can’t be denied that in that moment, Kratos saw himself in Baldur, and his need for revenge. It was still the right thing to do.
So a small complain. Spoilers for events leading to the Trophy "2nd Round".
That section should have included more playable moments. Totally thought I was going to have to control Krato's fall, scamper up the back of a dragon, etc.
It still was fucking amazing though.

Holy shit
Muspelheim
Gondul was an absolutely crazy fight at level 5. Had to use every tool at my disposal with squeak that one out. God damn though it felt good to win that one. And of course one of the loot items was an upgrade piece for a weapon I don’t have yet. I’d be a little upset, but I’ve already been spoiled on that.

Yeah, the 100 enemies gave me the most trouble. Once I realized how useful shock arrows are, that helped a lot. And the item that gives a high chance for a health boost on cleave. Traveler champions are super not fun to fight btw.
The don’t get hit challenge got done on second try for me, which was a giant relief. I’d read about it from you guys, so I immediately went in with the traveler chest piece and that gave me all the breathing room I needed along with crowd controlling with shock arrows, wolves, and the axe running R2

A good Waypoint piece about God of War (full game spoilers)
Atreus, armed with the skills his mother taught him, must face the dangers of the world. But for that to be possible, her role is to die. In the world created by God of War, sons have to be separated from their mothers to become men. The contribution of men is to perform the final test―the viability of a son in the world. Rearing and nurturing is women’s work, but also letting go. If a mother can perform her role and depart she’s succeeded, and with a little luck her son will pass this fatherly test and become a man. But if, as in Freya’s case, she is unable to relinquish control, to let her son experience life without a tether , then she has failed, and with her, her son. As a result, Baldur is not the gilded god from myth, but a cruel sadist.
Mothers are fine when they are exclusively in service of the heroism of their sons and husbands. Their secrets will be not only forgiven but embraced, only so long as they inspire a call to adventure, the creation of space for men to do violence, to conquer. And in God of War—mothers can only do this in death. They are too imposing to exist in time with men. Their secrets too potent, too destabilizing, too much their own. Men, in God of War, need women to arm them and then diminish, for their secrets to be set free.

I somewhat disagree with part of the bolded. It's true that the game definitely starts with the "mom is kind and nurturing, dad is cold and utilitarian" but is also very overt in showing how this is a bad thing. The narrative quickly clarifies Kratos' previous position in their family unit as mostly one of absence, and is presented by the game is extremely bad, based on how Atreus quite plainly wishes that Kratos had been the one to die instead. Kratos' personal arc is largely one of learning that he was doing all the wrong things, and actively needed to change, else he lose his son forever, and then he does that.
I'm a few achievements away from unlocking the platinum. Just got to finish nifelheim, the last valkyrie and a couple treasure maps.
I was afraid muspelheim was going to be tougher than it was but I didn't break much of a sweat. I did use a resurrection stone during the fight at the top of the mountain. Nifelheim is pretty cool. Random stuff, on the verge of dying at any moment, and losing all the stuff you gained.
This side stuff in the game isn't so bad but there was a lot of padding and backtracking that annoyed me. Overall I really enjoyed the game though. Sad I don't really have much left to use all this gear on though. A new game plus would be nice to work on the hardest difficulty level but oh well.
Just finished the story. Now on to a few missed opportunities.

Finished the story
Boy they just fuck Freya over at the end. Turn a strong female character into a blubbering mess trying to protect her son who wanted to fucking kill her anyway
That foible aside... Its going to take something amazing to unseat this as my GOTY.

Are Artreus' falcons meant to be a single-target high-stun ability? As cool as they are I much prefer the wolves.

Use the crows. They cover the entire room and zip-zap everybody in it for a long time at max level.
Haven't got them yet but I'll keep that in mind.

I beat the 100 man challenge by charging up rage on some enemies by holding down light attack which would also delay the fights a bit for wolfowitz buddies to come out and wreck shit.
I also made sure I had full rage to just cheese the shit out of the traveler at the final stage of the fight because fuuuuuuck that.

I just bought this and I'm about to start it. I was gonna wait for later to play it, but the word of mouth from all over the internet and real life has been too damn high.
is a fantastic runic attack you can use to build rage. Spoilered because the name of the attack may give away some mid-game stuff.

The Ravens may end up being either the deal breaker or what end up making me use a guide.

I've definitely looked up where one or two ravens in some areas are because their color is too light to really notice sometimes. I've spent the entire game spinning the camera while moving just to find hidden shit (I love it)
I can't see any game coming out this year (at least that's announced so far) topping this as my GotY. Maybe Tomb Raider, but I'm slightly skeptical since it's not Crystal Dynamics
Just finished this! Lots of fun, fantastic reveal at the end, absolutely would have been a more interesting game if you'd played as Faye. Alas for brand recognition.
As someone with very limited knowledge of the franchise (Kratos accidentally kills his family, then the Greek pantheon in revenge), they focus on really weird aspects of Kratos's history and character as lessons he wants to pass on to Atreus, and they don't really explore their relationship as much as I would have thought.
