I don't see how he can be compelled to testify if all penalty has been removed
No 5th amendment protection because he can no longer self incriminate. He can be held in contempt, and there's two types of contempt, one of which is theoretically not pardonable.
I say theoretically because like so much bullsht this administration it's uncharted territory and probably depends on the good faith participation of those involved, and we probably haven't hit bedrock with this hole yet.

this is the problem though. Who will enforce the possible penalty against the gop? The gop in congress, or the gop majority supreme court?
If (and god above I hope it never gets farther than 'if') trump up and pardons the whole lot, there is no one to do anything about it.
I don’t think so, today is the deadline for him to turn over all the documents seized during the raids on his homes, and today is also the day the judge will decide whether or not to revoke bail for Manafort.
President Donald Trump's personal lawyer Michael Cohen filed for a restraining order late Thursday against Stormy Daniels' lawyer, Michael Avenatti, to prevent him from speaking to the press about the adult film star's lawsuit.
"Avenatti's actions are mainly driven by his seemingly unquenchable thirst for publicity," the filing said, alleging that Avenatti "routinely denigrates" Cohen.
Avenatti's "publicity tour," the filing said, is "likely to result in Mr. Cohen being deprived of his right to a fair trial, and threatens to turn what should be a solemn federal court proceeding into a media circus."
It is rich to see Cohen trying to pull the "sanctity of the legal system" gooseshit.
Of which Cohen is a deputy finance chair. But I guess there'd be no reason the President and personal aquaintence of an RNC finance guy to talk to that guy about or during an RNC fundraiser hosted by his own club at which he is the keynote speaker.
He's also your fucking co-defendant in an active lawsuit about work he did for you, and arbitration proceedings he is currently conducting on your behalf.
I guess I didn't really need to go digging for receipts on that particular lie...

Well, that was quick. Judge Otero denied Michael Cohen's request for an ex parte — meaning, with only one party — gag order to be imposed on Michael Avenatti. Instead, the judge handles it as a normal motion, setting Avenatti's opposition to be due June 25.

The judge has already shown little patience for ex parte (that is, single party) orders, so it's no surprise that he's giving Avenatti a chance to respond. As for what that response might entail:
The motion for a gag order is a complete joke and baseless. Mr. Cohen and Brent Blakely can’t deal with the truth, the facts, and the law, so they have to resort to unethical, meritless motions. This must be their birthday present to Mr. Trump. #Basta
See below - just filed in the search warrant case. The second and third bullets could pose a huge problem for Mr. Cohen and ultimately Mr. Trump (especially the third bullet)!!BTW, so much for encryption protection! #Basta
Michael Avenatti is a large part of why this thread exists.

Michael Cohen has stated he's willing to give evidence against Trump if that's what prosecutors want. He's also hired a criminal lawyer for pending indictments against him.

I have a feeling some people are going to hear that and just go "Well, obviously he'll just say whatever the prosecutors want him to say, whether it's true or not."
And I also have a feeling those same people think torture works just fine.
Mr. Cohen has frequently told associates in recent months he is frustrated that the president hasn’t offered to pay his legal fees, which he has said are “bankrupting” him, according to one of the people. He has said he feels that Mr. Trump owes him after his years of loyalty to the former real-estate developer, whom he served for nearly a decade at the Trump Organization.
The White House didn’t respond to a request for comment, and there has been no indication Mr. Trump is planning to pay for his former longtime lawyer’s legal fees.
These people really do not understand Trump despite working for him for decades.
I take it that most of the money that all of those companies supposedly gave to him and him alone isn't actually available for his personal use, for some reason.

Yeah that does kind of poke holes in the theory he was flat out grifting, because he made a shit ton of money that suddenly isn't there? I wonder where it went? Don't worry Micheal I'm sure the SDNY knows.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.

Michael Cohens new lawyer is a former SDNY prosecutor. That's what people do when they're expecting to negotiate right? Hire prosecutors to navigate the deal?

Or like all the other morons associated with the Trump organization he's swimming in debt and criminal lawyers don't take IOUs

Cohen wasn't like building shit though, like Jared tried to save a high rise and failed miserably. Cohen took bribe money and paid off mistresses. There is no reason he should be in as dire financial straits as he's claiming if he'd been paid the amounts he claims he was paid to "advise" the president.

They may not have to, simply wait for Trump to tweet about events in court and he'll answer questions for them.
He can be compelled to testify because the penalty has been removed. He could no longer use the 5th amendment to stay silent.

This is a doozy though. What people know is always an open question but Cohen Knows where many bodies are buried.

To be fair, the weekend of March 2 seems like a long time ago.
Trump was in Mar-a-Lago that weekend for an RNC fundraiser.

No word on any partridges or pear trees.
Especially Signal which exists like exclusively to make sure nobody can see your messages.
Wasn't one of these mooks also caching it to iCloud, which is done in plain text?
That was Manafort I believe, and thus a separate thread.
