    There is a huge lot of fluffy fanfiction of that stripe. The more violent the original work, the more likely it is that a massive chunk of fanfiction for it is, like, a coffee shop AU where all the characters work in a coffee shop and have Friends-like hijinks and nothing bad ever happens.

    Yeah, like anywhere between 1/3 to 1/2 of Naruto fanfics seem to be "what if the characters were just ordinary people in modern Japan".
