Oh right, John McAfee is fucking crazy. I forgot about him for a while, since that time he maybe killed a guy.

I still appreciate his YouTube ad about how to uninstall McAfee.

I could probably find a work around for that.

Hook up a raspi to it and use the raspi as a translation box to ssh.

For like 250 or so you can get a vmlug license to test out and try any esxi software.

Make the company pay for it and give you an older box.

    Call it your dev sandbox.

I don't have any room for growth in my current position, so I really do need to find a better job, but the first two places to show interest are a nosql bank position, and sysadmin in the medical industry. Beggars can't be choosers, but damn. I don't want to turn into Bowen.

True. I'll interview with everyone though, just so I can do some interviewing myself. It's possible this job is better than I'm expecting. If I don't go, I'll never know.

Yeah, I did the first one yesterday. From the web interface I can make a VM. Turn it into a template, and make clones from that template. I played around with making permission profiles and got it to talk to AD.

The only thing I had trouble with was when I went to upload an .ISO so I could do some OS installs on the VMs, I kept getting security certificate errors. Even after I added the site to every trust thingy I could find. So I'm just gonna do that with PowerCLI.

Also "the medical industry" is a pretty broad term.

If it's in a 24/7/365 bigass hospital, that would be maybe... erf..

If it's like a modest specialist clinic or something that has normal hours and doesn't have in-patient care or emergency calls or something, that's basically any other job plus HIPPA.

It's with a centralized IT center that handles IT for several hospitals in the state, but the job isn't in a hospital itself.

Thing with financial core software is there's really no solution where this isn't true. That's the dirty secret. They all fucking suck. The grass isn't greener on the other side of the fence. The grass is fucking brown. Everywhere. All financial core grass is fucking brown.

The one question that matters is if their core software is hosted or on prem.

If it's hosted, it'll merely be annoying. If it's on prem, it's shitty brown dead grass. Period.

Yeah, this is a great place to be. The infrastructure is all there already, and you're being brought in as a warm body to help expand the support. Once that expanded stuff is all going pretty smoothly, you can start implementing new stuff to make the old stuff better to show off what you can do.

These people are hungry for hires. If you didn't tell them what salary range you were looking for, and you haven't accepted yet, ask them for 5k more than they offered. They'll meet it easily.
