Yeah WOW's style is basically WC3 with more polygons. It's pretty rare you such a direct through line between games and even decades. WOW now very different then WOW when it started, but it's still basically WC3 with EVEN MORE polygons.

I watched that Grubby game on the Isle Map where he was Orc and his opponent was Human. I knew that Human player was screwed minutes into the game when Grubby kept him base locked for a good amount of time and was stealing creep camps all game. Game went from mostly over to definitely over the moment a single Tauren came out vs Footmen and Adept Priests/Sorceresses. Grubby was no shit a top tier Warcraft 3 Player back in the day. That dude he played against didn't stand a chance.

Insomnia is (or apparently was) no slouch. However grubby has been actively playing warcraft 3 in recent times. I don't even know if insomnia has played since 2007 (last recorded win on liquipedia). It was kinda expected that grubby, happy, and other active please we're going to absolutely ruin anyone else they encountered. Grubby even went for an awful strategy on the plunder isle game (witch doctor + tauren with FS first). Granted there are changes in 1.29 and it remains to be seen if they shifted things that way but I don't think there was any doubt Grubby would win even before the contain.
I didn't get to watch everything yesterday but im expecting happy is the best player there and will likely demolish everyone grubby included unless something bizarre happens.
I am expecting the patch date to get pushed into April, but maybe we will get lucky. Main reason is there were some additional balance changes for the PTR

It also looks like it might be opening a second version of the game and a pop up saying warcraft 3 is already running appears which I think is causing the crash.

is that happening at the load battle.net screen or do you mean when you are launching WC3? i have had problems in the past connecting to US east (azeroth) and better success with US west (lordaeron). are all the servers doing the same thing for you? when it occurs for me it'll get stuck either looping if there is an update or after i have received the update i sometimes get stuck "initializing battle.net". juggling servers usually corrects it.
I mostly hear about a competitive scene in the reddit, or doing tourneys with old ladder maps, but do folks still play the other custom maps from the days of yore? It would make sense if they all moved to SC2, but that nostalgia of open RPGs is so strong.

there are still plenty of custom games. granted a lot of them are dota, but you can still find there. if you go on twitch there are a lot of non-ladder streams with people doing all the wacky customs

Last time I played, it was this map with the actual creator of the map. Gotta say, it was a pretty challenging rendition of World of Warcraft's Shadowfang Keep. I like seeing art assets from later games getting thrown into WC3 though. https://www.epicwar.com/maps/276746/
with the recent patch necros are somewhat a thing. granted i think my MMR is all sorts of fucked because i'm wildly bouncing between people who probably are playing their very first game (and that isn't meant to be insulting) and then people who think I'M playing my first game. regardless it is fun to fast expand with CL and then just roll up with multiple meatwagons some necros and go "here's my mother fucking army!". it's like the old adam west batman episode where all the bad guys get the idea that if they disintegrate their henchmen they can get them into the batcave and then add water for instant baddies. except with skeletons.
i'm also been looking into streaming, anyone here care enough about WC3 to watch someone terrible play it?
After playing the new WoW Warfront I think it would've been a great custom map back in WC3's prime.
Teams of heroes, every hero can gather lumber or gold and build buildings. Units purchased this way work DOTA-style. Units and enemy heroes also grant gold.
On a large melee map or big custom linear battleground that would be pretty neat.
I'm not overly burdened with originality.

Allegedly the hold up is brood war. The classic team is incredibly small and they still have a bunch of issues to address there. While I really really want WC3 on the launcher I can live without it for now if they fix the issues and learn before porting this game

Yes, accessing the game digitally is awesome, but all my Blizzard games live inside of the Blizzard App house... Except for WC3 and D2. They don't get invited to the Christmas party.

Insomnia is (or apparently was) no slouch. However grubby has been actively playing warcraft 3 in recent times. I don't even know if insomnia has played since 2007 (last recorded win on liquipedia). It was kinda expected that grubby, happy, and other active please we're going to absolutely ruin anyone else they encountered. Grubby even went for an awful strategy on the plunder isle game (witch doctor + tauren with FS first). Granted there are changes in 1.29 and it remains to be seen if they shifted things that way but I don't think there was any doubt Grubby would win even before the contain.
I didn't get to watch everything yesterday but im expecting happy is the best player there and will likely demolish everyone grubby included unless something bizarre happens.

I right clicked to run as admin. Still doing the same thing, say it is downloading the update and then immediately finishes and says it needs to restart and then it closes and doesn't update. It also looks like it might be opening a second version of the game and a pop up saying warcraft 3 is already running appears which I think is causing the crash.

is that happening at the load battle.net screen or do you mean when you are launching WC3? i have had problems in the past connecting to US east (azeroth) and better success with US west (lordaeron). are all the servers doing the same thing for you? when it occurs for me it'll get stuck either looping if there is an update or after i have received the update i sometimes get stuck "initializing battle.net". juggling servers usually corrects it.
possibly a reinstall could correct it.
