One of the major issues was that in the first Britney Porn thread, it had, like, two or three pages of posts, yet not one person had bothered to PM a mod. Maybe there wasn't anyone from G&T on, but I guarantee you that at least one of us was on, and not one of the wankers who posted in it bothered to PM us. So, yeah, that was one of the things that brought around this rule; not only were they not directing mods to it, but they were keeping it at the top of the page, with a pornographic image in it.
That is the harm.
I agree entirely; I want to make that clear. My only concern is that I hope that the mods realise that the example you cited (the Britney porn thread) wasn't entirely perpetrated by G&Ters. There were plenty of people from other subforums whom came in to "join the fun", so to speak. I just hope that this one incident isn't viewed as "G&T acting like douches" and resulting in G&T being punished for it. I'd rather it be a case of "Random people acting like douches".

Apparently, we should change the title of this sub-forum to "we can't integrate any of the php anti-spammer scripts into the forums as they are now because of the way it's patched together."

I expect better of people than you apparently do. I expect them to understand that rules are rules. I expect them not to be as ignorant as you seem to. People are more intelligent than you make them out to be, or maybe you are just naive, but a pattern of enforcement doesn't make acting a certain way acceptable. The role of enforcement is only to make sure rules are being followed. Take away enforcement and those rules should still be followed. I'm kind of puzzled that you think this is debatable.

It is entirely possible that the reason we have so many spammers in G&T is that they have some kind of automated system which works out targets based on how many replies spam threads get. I don't think this is outside the bounds of possibility, certainly.
And if this is indeed the case, then all you fuckers with no goddamn self-restraint are the CAUSE of all this shit.

I understand the whole "captcha scripts are too complex" thing, but how hard would it be to add a checkbox to the bottom of of the registration screen saying "I AM A SPAMBOT, PLEASE DELETE THIS APPLICATION (Legit users uncheck this)", have it checked by default and have anything submitted while this is ticked be ignored? I mean, I know it'd be easy to work around, but if we're the only forum on the net using it, how likely is it that the widely-used bot programs will be coded to uncheck it any time soon?

As a long time G&Ter I must say it always bothered me when people bumped threads which really, really didn't have any purpose being in G&T. It is one thing to bump a bad thread by informing the poster the thread is a duplicate, pointing them to another thread with the information, or asking them to clean up the OP but it is another case all together when people are bumping spam threads, especially ones with porn in them. Don't do it! You know you shouldn't, there isn't any reason to do it. Everyone bitches about how much they hate spam but then they post in those same threads which guarantees they will stay towards the top of the forum until a mod comes in and locks it. It reminds me of kids who scratch at mosquito bites.
