Good time, @Entaru, @Vyolynce.
I'm currently having fun with Adept Longsword.
Also I remembered why I had the Seltas set: Activating the Hero's Shield skill prevents you from being confused by Malfestio's dust. Its wing slashes and body press will still do it, though.
It also prevents small fry from interfering with carves, which is great.
-Edit- Now that I've remembered some more: I am again delighted by "Creamy Waffles".
So I decided to try most of the 14 weapons in the training ground.
I'm pretty sure I was overwhelmed by most of them. I think i'll go sword and board for now. Seems straight forward enough.
I enjoy the simplicity of the light bowgun myself. Lay mines around, shoot the monster in the face. No combos or manouvers, just shoot it until it dies.
Finished the story (actually) yesterday. What a fantastic ride that was. The game might be a flawed gem, but what a charming and odd little gem it is. One of my favourite games in a very long time.

I'm new to the series as well, and I cleared the story a couple of days ago and I've done absolutely everything with the Longsword, as that's what appealed the most to me. As far as I understand it, there's not really a wrong way to do it, as long as you're comfortable. It took me 10+ hours before I started to use any of the advanced features of my weapon, as just hitting things was enough to begin with. Then once I was comfortable with the game, I started to experiment and use more weapon features.
Starting to have a hard time with gunlance. I need Rathian bits for the next upgrade, but I am having a hard time actually killing her. It just seems to take forever to do any damage, and she ends up departing before I can kill her.
I did manage to knock her tail off once and get 1 scale :rotate:

Yeah, I like to think that that really means like, "this is a section of skin with good, intact scales" and such for most parts. It doesn't make much sense otherwise for them.

Don't hunt monsters in expeditions, it is the worst possible way to hunt.
still kind of want to take a crack at extremoth but having a hard time figuring out a build that has all the defense i want to muster
was thinking of running wide 4 gunlance, bit i've got two limitations there: one, i'm not particularly comfortable playing it and two, no goddamn guard up deco limits my options.
actually thinking of dumping a triple defense augment into the rarity 6 kulve wide 4 lance, which helps a little bit.
without it i get guard up, divine blessing 2, health boost 3, stun resistance 3, guard 3, artillery 3, def lock 3, and evade extender 3. has about 480 defense. with the augments i end in the same spot but with 30 more defense and maybe a better divine blessing via the augment?
all i want to do is squeeze in another 2 points in guard but fuck if i can't figure out how to do it.

Yeah. I wanted to upgrade my gunlance before taking on Anjanath, but you don’t get the Rathian hunt quest until after.
but seriously the damage from the clusters made that almost as straight forward as regular behemoth, the trick being coordinated when entering zones as not to get charydbis blocked and saving CC for phase 4 and controlling how much dps we put into him as to not miss comets. I think we could do it
Eh that was just a string of bad luck and some questionable puggers (though the first attempt we should have had it, that was all me eating the stupid ground pound).
Maybe tomorrow night if anybody else needs Behemoth we all get online and do it?
god going back to MHG on 3ds is rough after playing MHXX.
it's so, so much better on switch. really hyped for MHGU, english-speaking active community is gonna be so good.
i'm torn between importing my save or starting fresh.
i think i'll probably... import, start a new save, then move back to the old one once i work through the rust.
Restarted this on PC trying to keep to weapons I haven't used as much, I'm actually having an issue where my experience from previous games is messing me up. Like, I'm trying longsword, and I keep forgetting that the new moves are a thing. "Oh right. Foresight Slash. That's a thing now" I think while fighting Tobi Kadachi, roughly ten times in this single fight, while continuing to pointedly not do it.
Someday I'll stop being shocked by how powerful bows are. HR 49 Tempered Kirin is down in no time at all. (Although in fairness I did get one-shotted a couple times.)

Bow seems really, really good in MHW, especially once you have all the decorations for it
I did everything solo until it was time to start running tempered hunts. At least partially due to never being able to connect to online.
But SOS searching for tempered elders is a million times better than farming tracks. And I'll do some other things that pop up if they catch my fancy (Legiana, B-Goose). If I need tails or horns I will just solo an investigation with some silver and gold boxes though.

Don't worry, it's a common enough decoration

Had some great hunts and a few hilarious deaths.
I am super excited for MHGU.

at any point you want, basically
Or just do the whole thing solo
the world is yours to do with what you want!
Behemoth solo is a fools errand, but otherwise yeah.

I didn't say the entire game would be easy solo
From what I've heard Behemoth Extrme may actually be impossible to solo.

don't tell the japanese speed runners that, because they already did it
bow, RNG cannon (HBG) and dual blades at least
If someone says something is impossible, someone else is going to do it out of spite
