Last Blade 2 is the best fighting game of all time
it's so good
I've never been able to figure out quite why I think it feels oddly stiff, in spite of how lovely it looks in motion.
It's got such a great look and such great characters in it, though.
BBtag patch went live last night. Kinda disappointed that they didn't fix the cross combo active switch invincibility bug, but whatever. Everything else looking good, can't wait to get some time with it.
Just played some online Heroines matches last night, still haven't figured it all out (and waiting another week before I can use fightstick on it) but it's fun as it is.
Apparently the plot is Kukri from kof14 kidnapped all the female fighters, dressed them up in skimpy outfits against their will and is making them fight in order to harvest their shame

Why have a guard button and roll in a 2D fighter like that.
That’s ridiculous.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.

Thats gonna be a Real Big No from me, dogg
This is not accurate.
Although I’m not sure the actual reason is better.
None of what’s happening is real or is happening to the real KoF fighters. It all takes place in Kukri’s dream dimension.
They are so accurate because he’s fought them all before and has magically accurate approximations of their personalities.
He’s having them fight so he can collect enough dream energy for it to BECOME real.
It is so accurate that he is recording what’s happening in his dreamspace, and dream Mai wants the video of girl Terry to be mailed to Real Mai, so she can show real Andy.

I like the mechanics conceptually, but how do you even play the game without pokes or zoning? Is everyone rushdown?
the tweet is not even accurate. specials do not drain your life. you get close and far normals + dashing attack
everything else is just whining (ah check his tweets, doesn't own the game, played it once at friends house, inspiring that he was able to download the footsies of the game so rapidlyl)
the game is pretty fun. unfortunately nobody will play it
at first i was down on the net code, but i don't think sabre and i live close to each other and it was fine, meaning you can really tell who is on wifi and who isn't, so uhh avoid the switch version
The general plots of the KoF games go into some pretty weird territory (everything after the Orochi saga, basically). I don't think anything compares to that, though.

Ah, okay, that is much more reassuring. How does the super-only finisher work out? I've been a fan of the idea since Ultraman on SNES, but it's also had problems since Ultraman on SNES.
i didn't bother posting anything about heroines because i already knew in advance nobody gives a shit, but i won't stand for hemming and hawing about "wut no lows how is it a fighting game"
i'm quite certain you would all log on and get blown the fuck up, that's how i know it's a fighting game... IN ANY CASE
the game twists itself in a pretzel pretty hard to not be a regular 2D fighter, even in places where it would have been obviously better (goddamn block button)
at a base base base level it operates like MK9 if MK9 had a smash bothers blockroll and IAD.
anything you want to do worthwhile costs meter
All special moves cost meter. Using them without meter gives you a really weak version of them, like a reverse-EX, instead of especially good it's especially bad (sometimes comedicly)
Smash-rolling out of blockstun costs meter
Cancelling anything into a tag costs meter
Supers, obviously burn bar
Being the victim of a throw will take a substantial amount of meter from the victim if they have any left (which is good because man do you have to work for throws)
Your meter and your life bar basically share a single pool. The more HP you have, the less you can meter build. At full life you barely have enough bar to do a single super. Only the tagged out partner builds meter at any rate worth talking about.
You have to whittle your opponent down to critical life. Once your opponent is critical, any super will kill. If you don't combo into super, reducing the opponent to 0 health will stun them for a tee-ball super. While stunned, the victim can still use items to defend themselves, which is pretty fucking funny. The major public misconception here is you have to "stun" them to win. But any normal super confirm that results in their life dropping into the red zone seems to be good enough.
I would say the main challenge of the game is meter management & being optimal. Your combo routes vary wildly depending on where you are on the screen. There are some routes which only work on Tuesday if the wind is blowing west, due to the way the wall/ground bounce animations are (I feel that this is intentional to give a little flavor to higher level play, if there is such a thing). So being optimal is probably the biggest element of play, as meter is precious and you need to make it count every time. Can't tell you how many stun's I've earned where I had no gas in the tank on either character to actually win.
The game overall is without a doubt merely a 5.9/10 right, there's no defending it. However, the gameplay is NOT the weak element here. 8/10 gameplay.

That reminds me in a couple of ways of Psychic Force 2012. I can't actually tell if it was a good game, but goddamn did I enjoy it.
Though I'm not sure why everyone has a hate boner for the block button.
heroines has 6 dedicated buttons already, which relegates block to an 7th button, so on stick your block button is way out there... like playing guitar hero on the mode where they actually make you move your hand. UNACCEPTABLE
I have heard and accept the rationalizations for it in MK, but there's pretty much no reason for it in this game other than to be different I guess

I'm fond of the block button on most games, like SC and VF. But as a seventh button? Nah, that's a mistake.
I think it's hilarious that the super meter concept in heroines is basically identical to the one in the Double Dragon fighting game on Neo Geo. You know, the one that featured literally swollen Abobo?
I don't think that heroines is for me, but I want to try it out because everything I've heard about the mechanics sound real interesting, and I got shown up real good by BBTAG in terms of "these controls sound stupid on paper".

... I can't think of any Capcom fighters to request a guest spot, unless I stretch it to Vega, Rolento, Rose, and/or Menat.
Too bad about snk heroines then

It also just seems miserable to play

Emergency tekken patch is live.
I think we all 100% knew the Lars, Kat, and Eliza changes were happing exactly the way they happened.
Nice to see the Bryan taunt nerf was accidental and not just a mistranslation.
I wasn't really aware of the Shaheen, Raven, and Anna issues.
Kind of surprised (but not disappointed) that Lei's unblockable setup didnt get touched.
O.o What.
