Chrome browser suddenly missing front page links.

So, my home page when i open a new tab in my Chrome browser is set to google. most of the time when i open a new tab i get a page with the google bar and under it, is a selection of my most visited websites. However I've never been able to find in the preferences or settings what determines exactly how this works. I've seen other people with the same kind of setup, and they have like 16 of the most visited sites shown, whereas I have only ever seen 8 at a time listed on my page.

And the more irritating of the issues is that some times for no apparent reason (I have not recently wiped browser history or anything), the page just goes blank, and I presume starts over again.

Can i configure this page with specific websites? why does it go away? It's been a week since the blank just happen to me and it still has not collected anything or list anything for me to use.

Thanks

This happened to me a few days back. Try updating your version of Chrome to the most recent. That's what did it for me.

yea, it seems those links broke on clients still on Chrome 68, because they redesigned the new tab links in chrome 69.

    Ahh. thanks, I'll try that.

is there any kind of control over that page? like how many it displays?

The number of shortcuts visible is determined by how wide the window is. It appears to max out at 10 in Chrome 69.

It can be customized. You can remove a shortcut from the "..." menu button that appears when you hover over it. If there are less than the maximum number of shortcuts that can be displayed at your window width, an "Add Shortcut" button will appear.

There are "speed dial" extensions that can change the new tab page, but most of the ones I've seen have horrifying permission requirements and privacy policies.

Well updating fixed the missing links and the new version lets you add to the list, which is cool, so thanks for the info.
