Ada's new outfit screams "just a regular-ass reporter with no ulterior motives."

It's certainly the complete opposite of "obviously a femme fatale."

Noire filter looks really cool. I'd replay the game with that to see how it works in black and white.

The Claire costume on the left in the Youtube preview image looks like she's wearing a jacket for a bike. Like a motorsports kind of jacket.

That's because it is biker-wear. More precisely, it's Eliza Walker's clothes or an approximation of it.

I'm really trying to keep my hype levels at a realistic level but everything about the RE2make is looking absolutely incredible to me and far better than I expected. Between this and DMC5, Capcom are looking to have a hell of a start to 2019.

Now I want noir filter to include a to-camera narration during the story:
"With just one look at her, I could tell she was trouble. A red dress, a gun, and legs that went all the way up."

Nobody remembers the singer. The song remains.

I hope they give Claire a noir outfit as well.

Edit: Oh, they did. I somehow missed that detail on my first watch of the video.

There's something about this time of year. Obviously it's tied to all the halloween themes and probably also general fall weather, but every single year I always get in the mood to play both Resident Evil and Castlevania.

I'm thinking this year I will install and play Code Veronica on my PS4. I bought the Code Veronica port during one of the PSN sales when it was super cheap. But I've never actually played that game even a little bit. So it will be a brand new experience for me.

Last October I installed and played RE0.

That's a great idea. Maybe I'll try to speed play through RE7 in VR this weekend.

@Lucascraft a couple things about CVX
So there's a thing early in Code Veronica that works like an item box, it isn't! Don't leave stuff there if you wanna keep it. I lost a weapon because of it!

Also the knife is REAL GOOD in that game. Like, way more than usual. It's viable to use as a main weapon vs zambers.

That's a good tip, and one that will surely come in handy.

Now I just need to overcome my inability to play with Tank Controls.

I walked into so many walls last night you guys.

Code Veronica and RE4 were the games that made the knife a useful weapon. You could hack at a zombies knees and knock them down, giving you the freedom to run past or just to continue killing them.

  • Options
    XerinkXerink Registered User regular
Code Veronica had weird knife mechanics where the knife could actually hit multiple times in a single swing. As Kruite mentioned, this meant it was easier to take down zombies using a knife than in past games.

I still would recommend against using the knife during the main game and either run or shoot the problems in your way.

Code Veronica is my favorite RE ever and I just started it up again.

Then I convinced my brother to play it for the first time.

Now I come in here and see this!

I think one of my favorite gaming memories of all time was (Code Veronica plot spoilers)
    Wesker showing up.

In an age before the internet, when I was playing on my Dreamcast, and Albert Fucking Wesker showed up, with red glowing eyes, I completely lost my shit.

Not only because it couldn't be spoiled, but because it couldnt even be HINTED at. There were no message boards, no twitter, nothing in the past YEARS that ever even hinted at Wesker coming back. It was incredible.

Man, I do love me some RE4. But I already own the Remaster on PS4. I don't really need it on Switch.

Of course, I will probably still buy it. Because I hate money.

The other night I was mere inches away from buying both Revelations games on my Switch. Luckily I didn't buy them. But I still might!

    Man I love this series.

The light gun games were incredible! Oh man I might have to bust that out again.

I never got a chance to play the coop ones on the ps2 but I watched a play through and it looks like a game I would enjoy if I knew it was a thing when it was out.

6 was fun. Not nearly as good as the previous iterations but I liked it more than I hated it.

I'm easy to please with this series and I'm okay with it. Resident Evil is my favorite series. I even enjoy the movies for the most part.

I own it but haven't put it in yet. Having 3 kids has put a cramp in my gaming time. But I assure you that I have watched people play it and it looks fun, or else I wouldn't have bought it lol.

Edit: now that I think about it.... I got it from Gamefly and put in a couple of hours into it. I was going to coop it with a friend of mine but life got in the way.

Wait I think I am confusing Operation Raccoon City with it. Sorry it's midnight and my newborn baby has been keeping me up for a few weeks now. Hard to keep things straight.

I've been told ORC is still very bad but has a few redeeming qualities. Umbrella Corps does not.

There's also the two Gun Survivor games, Dead Aim and Gaiden on GBC. This isn't even getting into the many bad phone games.

I feel like if someone finds a series consistently good, it's not really necessary to go looking for games on handheld, mobile, Flash, tabletop and so on until they admit they were wrong.

There's tons of great games in the series, but consistency isn't really a strong point. If he actually likes all of those games, that's totally valid. It just seems more likely that he didn't really stop and think about just how many RE games are out there beyond the main numbered titles.

I'd honestly love to hear from someone that played a ton of Umbrella Corps. And I love the LPs of the Survivor/Dead Aim series, but I'd never want to actually play them.

Every time I come in here and people are talking about the series I wish I had access to my dreamcast and my copy of Code Veronica. NEver did finish that one, and my last playstation was a PS2, so I don't have the version that's on the PSN store. Was there no og xbox port for them to make backwards compatibility for xbox?

I'm one of the 20 people on the planet with the Umbrella Corps platinum trophy. The worst thing I can say about it is it lacks polish; it's ugly, the animations suck, framerate skips on melee kills for some reason... It can also be pretty fun. The maps are deliberately on the small side, so players are funneled into skirmishes often, and things can get pretty chaotic, in a good way. There's a decent variety in game types. Not surprisingly, population is an issue...I either ended up matched with the same 6-7 people every night when I was playing, or there were times when I straight up couldn't get a game going. I don't think I could ever recommend it to anybody, but it's far from the worst thing I've ever played. There's a core of a good thing deep, deep, deep, deep, deep, deep down in there.

So basically what could have been a perfectly serviceable game, if anyone had played it to keep it supported? But I'm gonna guess you still only put the hours in due to the name. Were there any redeeming qualities that you wished were in other games? Did it even feel related to RE at all besides a thin layer of themeing, or could it have just been any random zombie related shooter?

Eh it's fine. In my eyes if the game has Resident Evil somewhere in the title then I know that I'll still have a good time with it.

I was mainly referring to the mainline series of games initially but I also have really enjoyed the spin-off ones as well (especially the light gun games).

Eh, it's hard to say...Would the game have been supported and patched by Capcom over time if more people had played it? Impossible to know, since it never happened. Not that I blame anybody...let's be honest, this game looks and feels like hot garbage to the average player.

Redeeming qualities...I like the pace of the matches. Maps are small, players are encouraged to engage quickly, and games are faster as a result. In the age of the 30-minute battle royale, Umbrella Corps sits on the other end of the spectrum. Match types were varied enough. There's your standard death match, 3-on-3 no-respawn last man standing match, etc. There are also matches where victory goes to the first team to collect 5 briefcases (which also drop upon death), first team to kill 3 "super-zombies", first team to eliminate the target player on the other team while also protecting your own target, etc. Some of these modes would be neat to see in games like Call of Duty.

Would I have played without the RE tie-in? Of course not! But therein lies the power of IP, franchises, and branding. Only reason I put the hours in is because I wanted to platinum every RE game on my PS4 (I'm very close). The maps are surprisingly faithful recreations of previous series locations (RE4 village, Antarctica, RPD, etc), but other than that, this could have been any other generic shooter.

Like I said, it's far too janky to recommend, but someday, somebody will make another competitive shooter in this style with some actual money behind it, and I'll probably check it out.

The Revelations games are both A+ and some of the best in series. I gush about them a lot on here, but I'll recap for you.

Revelations 1 feels like an old school throwback to RE1. Instead of being trapped in a mansion, you're trapped on a big boat. It has a very strong sense of claustrophobia, and even the puzzle solving is very RE1-ish. By this I mean it doesn't make any fucking sense. But that's part of the charm. The captains quarters is locked by a key that is the shape of a ship wheel. But to get the ship wheel key, you must first obtain the key in the shape of an eagle. And so forth. It's super silly, but it works. Collect keys, progress the story. Also, the brilliance of the series (in my opinion) is that they have these super action-oriented chapters sprinkled in which really help with breaking up the tension of the survival horror stuff. Jill Valentine is the main character of the story, and her chapters are very old-school survival horror. But then sometimes you switch to Chris Redfield who is fully loaded with shotguns, machine guns, and grenades galore, and they let you mow down tons of baddies. It works very well.

Revelations 2 takes a slightly different approach. The chapters bounce back and forth the same as 1, but in Revelations 2, both chapters are fairly survival-horrorish. You have two pairings: Claire and Moira, and theirs is definitely survival horror all the way through. Then you have the other pair which is Barry and Natalia. Barry is definitely much more actiony, but because you're escorting a little girl with very little combat ability herself (she can throw bricks at zombies), those chapters have a tension to them that didn't exist in Chris's chapters in Rev 1. In Chris's chapters you're literally just mowing down zombies and chucking grenades and stuff, with very little threat to yourself. They gave Barry's chapters more action, but restored an element of tension by giving him a partner who can't fight for all intents and purposes.

And anyway, no, they aren't low budget. They have great visuals, especially Rev 2. They play very well. They're slower paced than RE5 or RE6, and they feel more like throwback games, while still feeling modern at the same time.

In my opinion, Revelations 1 and 2 are the best games in the entire Resident Evil franchise.

Also, just as an update, I terminated my attempt at Code Veronica and uninstalled it. I'm sure it's very good. I've heard nothing but very high praise for that game. Same with RE2. I've heard it's fantastic.

But my "brain to hands" coordination just cannot work with tank controls for whatever reason. I've tried and tried. Heck, with Code Veronica I forced myself to keep playing far past the point of frustration, with the hopes that it would "click" and I'd be able to advance and enjoy it. But that didn't happen. I can't explain it. Conceptually I understand tank controls. I can tell you exactly how it works. But I can't make that translate to control with my hands. It's weird.

I've tried over and over again. And each time I fail. It's incredibly frustrating to me too, because I've missed out on a few gems in this series because of it. I've never played RE2 or Code Veronica, or even the original RE1 PSOne version. I've since been able to enjoy RE1 Remake. And I'm extremely excited for and looking forward to RE2 Remake. RE2 Remake looks like a Revelations game to me. And that has me all sorts of excited.
