WoW will run on that. I ran it on my old PC (5 years old, GeForce 4200Ti and stuff) without any trouble.
just some recommendations that I enjoyed
Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War (RTS, mostly online play)
Freedom Force (RPG with super heroes. Not sure if it's still in stores)
Baldur's Gate series (by all means the most complete RPG ever made)
Sam & Max season 1 (point 'n' click adventure, get one episode for free here: http://www.telltalegames.com/samandmax/lincolnmustdie (click where it says "Buy it! Your options:" and then the one where it says $0,00) )
For the sake of seconding, 'cuz I was EXACTLY where you were technology wise until like 2 months ago
Warcraft 3: Fun RTS with RPG elements, a solid difficulty curve, I normally get discouraged with RTSes before finishing, but this one was challenging but not so much to drive me off and I actually finished
Baldur's Gate 2: It feels like I type this reccomendation every week, hah, anyhoo, if you like this type of game and RPG, you will go to bed with hardons thinking of this game, if you don't, you won't. I recommend BG2 because the plot of BG1 is nicely summarized and really not necessary to the enjoyment of BG2, and BG1, albeit a GOOD GAME, just so utterly pales in comparison to the scope and gameplay of 2. If you like 2, get 1. This was the first game I installed on my new gaming comp and I still play it. Favorite game ever for me, hands down.
Crysis: Haha just kidding
The Longest Journey: Excellent adventure game. Not just the best(and only reasonably decent)adventure game from the last few years, one of the best EVER
Orange Box, as you obviously know, is an excellent idea. So there's an RTS, FPSes, RPG, and adventure.
Can anybody recommend whether to play on either a PvE or PvP on WoW, I don't mind being hunted and killed some times as long as it's not too bad, so how bad is it in this?
If you roll on a fresh server, world PvP can be fun, but only if the faction balance isn't 2-1 against you. Though most people stick to BG's and arena these days I imagine. I've never started a pvp char on a mature server so I wouldn't know about that.
I played WoW for its first year of birth, but I doubt things have changed much.
World PvP is one of the main reasons I loved the game. And if there was a time when you were getting tanked a lot while trying to quest, there are usually several options of places to level and at least one of which is usually deserted or if you see other people there they are doing the same thing you are and will not bother you.
Roll PvP. If you find you're not cut out for it, migrate your character or just make a new one.
Athlon 64 3200@2.0GHz
1.5Gb DDR400
GeForce 6800GT Video Card
Updated, anybody know if I could play oblivion on this with a decent frame rate?
Also I am sun burned.
Yes, with that video card you should be able to run Oblivion with no problems. You should know though...it's a little slow...and tedious. Keep in mind that I absolutely loved Morrowind, but THIS pretty much sums up my feelings on Oblivion.
Also, if you enjoy Diablo 2, take a look at Hellgate: London. I picked it up last weekend as a Christmas present to me and am finding it to be VERY Diablo-like.
Roller Coaster Tycoon, the original. This probably has years of my life.
Mafia. A near perfect single-player experience. Fantastic story, voice acting, gameplay, and a city that really feels like it's alive. Should be pretty damn cheap now, too.
Planescape: Torment
No One Lives Forever and NOLF2
Deus Ex
X-COM: UFO Defense
Jagged Alliance 2
The Secret of Monkey Island, The Secret of Monkey Island 2, The Curse of Monkey Island
Half-Life
Fallout and Fallout 2
Arcanum
Freespace and Freespace 2 (they are both 100% free now)
Warcraft III
Starcraft
Counterstrike
Rainbow 6: Rogue Spear
Mount and Blade
Natural Selection (Half-Life mod)
The Specialists (Half-Life mod)
DEFCON
Darwinia
Uplink
Call of Duty, Call of Duty 2
The Longest Journey
Psychonauts
Baldur's Gate II
Grim Fandango
System Shock 2
Homeworld and Homeworld 2
Diablo II
Brothers in Arms
Galactic Civilizations II

Even if you don't own a joystick, spend $50 on a decent one and call it payment for the game(s): it's worth every penny.
Because Warcraft 3 is pretty excellent. The single player is really great and some parts play out much more like an adventure game.
Max Payne 2
Warcraft III
Unreal Tournament
Quake 3
Half-Life: Counter-Strike

Yes I forgot about this, I could run it only barely on this POS but I gave up cause it ran like a fat kid in a foot race, be neat to play it well.
A bit older than what I'm after, 'cept for MP2, still play me some Diablo 2 though.
Level 82 Smiter Pally on US West softcore non-ladder.
Maybe in another five years though.

That game is fantastic if you're into RTS, and it'll run on a 166 without any acceleration.

You'll be jaded to minor inconveniences and able to relieve stress more readily.
