Though if actual cuts were to made I'd start with at least collapsing echo fighters into just being costumes and if any character has multiple entries then they only get one (though is that just Link at this point?)
Characters that are currently not echo fighters but have similar moves/stats/mechanics would also be collapsed into costumes
Significant differences could potentially warrant different slots but ideally each character would have moves that were as unique as possible
So put all the star fox characters just become fox costumes, Marth/Lucina/Chrom/Roy just get collapsed into marth, Pichu becomes a Pikachu costume, Ganondorf either gets more mechanically unique versions of his existing moves or he gets cut because the weight and franchise difference means he can't be a Captain Falcon costume, Lucario and mewtwo average out their move sets, Isabell becomes a villager alt, Dark Pit is gone, Zero Suit stays or somebody inherits her moveset I don't really care, I guess Ike Shulk and Cloud stay separate but in a pinch I'd cut Ike, Luigi and Mario could also stay separate I think, Ness and Lucas are obviously combined, same for Ken and Ryu as well as Simon and Richter, and last but not least Young Link and Toon Link are replaced by Shovel Knight

I put that poorly - I was thinking more “technical change which causes rework, limiting what they can do” than “3ds can’t handle ice climbers”. Melee to Brawl you had an increase in graphical detail to the point that they put that in the announcement trailer, and 4 went to hd. I’m expecting the switch’s successor isn’t going to be 4k or anything that’s going to obligate them to significantly rework the characters they have

They could've tried a Smash Royale, put 100(or 20 even) fighters in a big Smash Run stage that slowly gets smaller and smaller until it's the size of Final Destination and whoevers left fights to the death.
I mostly just wanted Smash Run back.

Went out to Gamestop and Target today and got my Gamecube controller and adapter. The controller is lighter than I remember, the buttons sound clickier too though that might just be because it's about 17 years newer than my other ones.
