That is amazing that Otani has been doing Pikachu's voice since 1997. All she ever says is "Pikachu" in various different ways. But she's instantly recognizable. Television, movies, games... a huge list of credits. And she only says one word.
I checked and the german trailer for the animated pokemon movie uses the original voice. I have no idea why they changed it to this awful version for detective pikachu.

German voice actors have more creative and status than basically anywhere else in the world, due to basically all non-German movies being dubbed, so it may be case of them actually not being allowed to use the original Japanese voice. (Can't find any source to support that though, so it may be bullshit.)
*= looked a bit further, never mind, it's bullshit. German TV did dub Pikachu in the first season, but used the original Japanese voice going onward.
The Germans have a reputation for weird dubbing decisions, but I have no idea what motivates it

I'm cautiously optimistic for Alita. Cameron helped pen it, Rodriguez is a great director, and it's being faithful to the original source material with a great cast.

I'm dreading it, being a fan of the manga. Cameron's days of having solid scripts are behind him, Rodriguez is very hit and miss, the tone of the trailers is very different from the manga itself which are very serious and semi-realistic, and while they are being faithful with characters/scenes the trailers show the execution looks lacking. The CGI is not impressive, in my opinion. Alita's ridiculous eyes are also a bad sign, she had the same eyes are everyone else in the manga. I'd love to be wrong, of course, I've been waiting for years for this movie to be made.

It seems like every cyberpunk movie is cursed with some sort of flaw or controversy, take Ghost in the Shell(which I actually enjoyed). It was definitely flawed, but it had style, and a fantastic score.
The problem is giant eyes drawn on paper do not cause unnatural revulsion. On an actor however they hit that uncanny valley REALLY hard curious how big of a turn off that is or if when stuff starts moving you just won't notice it enough to matter.

Motorball is in and that's enough for me unless they utterly mess it up (please have Zafal Takie in there). What I want more of is the absolutely bonkers martial arts action and the big roster of martial arts practitioners, a result of the fact that the automated security system installed by the utopian society hanging above the Scrapyard are very zero-tolerance when it comes to projectile weaponry.
I also hope Desty Nova makes an appearance, if only as a last-scene stinger.
Ok frig I have to ask, what the hell is up with the horribly HDR'd and compressed YouTube vids these days?? Is it just an algorithm?

Dumplin' looks like generic schlock, you'd be better off watching that Saved By the Bell episode where Screech and Slater compete in Miss Bayside. That episode had heart!

It doesn't hit any "uncanny valley" for me. She looks kind of like a doll, which seems to be the desired effect? Dolls with big eyes sell as children's toys for ages

She looks like someone stopped short of crushing her head. Like that scene in casino where that hit man was getting his head squeezed by a vice. It kinda makes me want to hurl.
A lot of thinks that look normal in a manga look messed up when realistically made with expensive CGI. The flounder face to make animation easier looks normal to me in anime unless I think about it, but it would be weird as heck if someone used expensive CGI to do it on a real person.

Another Dumbo trailer, did know the Trash Man was in it:
I've never read the manga, but I get the impression that it's more than just "big anime eyes". I think it's a deliberate choice to make her look slightly inhuman in a way that couldn't be ignored by just focusing on her face.
Also James Cameron is fuckin' box-office gold and he's been after this movie for years. He probly knows what he's doing.

He does, but he's a producer - Cameron's full attention is on making Avatar sequels. Alita is Rodriguez' baby.

eh I mean you're not wrong factually, but I mean Cameron made Aliens while waiting for Terminator 2 to render, and tightened up the graphics on level 3 of Avatar while diving to the bottom of the ocean in a submersible looking for Kaiju
Like "he's invested elsewhere" doesn't really apply to Cameron

The movie could be amazing. I loved Battle Angle Alita as a kid, but every time I see movie images and trailers, I’m distracted by the uncanny valley and paying less attention to what’s going on with everything else.

Cameron said in the last Avatar updates that he's been wanting to make this film for years, so I'm sure he didn't just quietly hand it off. I bet him and Rodriguez bounced ideas off of each other often.

Yeah.. He was waiting for the tech to catch up just so he could make it. Avatar was basically a tech demo for Alita..

Yeah, the big eyes just don't really add anything to her other than an "Urgh" factor which makes the images and perspective look wrong. Should have made her 'not human' with some plating on the cheeks or something, or with eye color, not kept the big eyes. Trailer looks fine and interesting, but the big eyes are a strictly bad decision.
I'm not sure who to take to see this with me. People I know who like gory zombie survival horror movies don't much care for British Christmas musicals, and fans of British Christmas musicals I know probably can't stand the gore in a zombie survival horror film.
Still, British Zombie Survival Horror Christmas Musical is perhaps the greatest string of words strung together that accurately describes what a movie is.
Still rather generic I think, and it looks like they're removing Timothy from it almost completely and replacing him with kids which, eh.
Does some of that take place after the original story? There's the bit where the guy talks about "flying on the elephant's wings", which seems to imply taking advantage of Dumbo is some capacity.
Unless he's somehow talking about the diving off the burning building part? And that burning building now appears to set the whole tent on fire? to the point where the Dad has to rescue the kids on horseback? Um. Ok.
And they show Timothy-looking mouse in the trailer, but it doesn't look like any of the animals talk. So the actual role is given to the kids.
I did see what looked like pink elephants though, but it looked to be part of the show and not drunk Dumbo.
