I'm sure there's going to be a lot of hate for the movie.
The people who go expecting Pikachu Deadpool are going to be disappointed when they roll into a PG/PG-13 movie, people expecting a child friendly live action movie are going to be annoyed at any not-G rated content.
But I'm also sure the movie is going to make absolute bank for it's opening weekend just based on the response to the trailer.

Then it'll still have a spectacular opening weekend, and though word of mouth will keep it from having legs for the adult audience kids will continue eating it up for a few weeks afterward.

Truth be told, I don't know anyone who "goes in blind" to movies anymore, at least without checking a review first. Heck, I saw a review for the Full Metal Alchemist live action. That guy did everything he could to warn people, and that was a Netflix thing.

I am 10000% convinced Detective Pikachu is going to massively bomb. And like I'm legitimately angry about it as a capitalistic waste of money. To the point that I kind of want to make some kind of extreme wager that if it doesn't bomb I'll do [whatever awful thing].

If Detective Pikachu stays as earnest as the trailer shows, I don’t feel like there will be a problem. In the past few years we’ve had some critically acclaimed and box office winning movies that are basically about ‘kids’ stuff (LEGO and paddington, for example).

Yeah I dont really think anybody is coming in thinking it will be like Deadpool and it will probably keep the content less objectionable than your average MCU flick and the parents aint mobolized against it yet. Im sure that if the movie is fun and good people will like it and even if its bad people will give it a try.
