I'm gonna have to rewatch Butch Cassidy this weekend

When I was in late high school/most of college, I became a big-time film nerd and decided I wanted to be a screenwriter thanks in large part to William Goldman. Obviously his fiction writing is super good, but he also wrote a lot on the craft and business of screenwriting and filmmaking, and it was really influential.

RIP man, your impact is going to be felt for generations.

One of my favorite things about reading the Princess Bride book is Bill's commitment to this bit.

I read the princess bride when I was like seventeen
I didn't realize it was a bit for a long time

I somehow managed to be meta-dumb, where I knew that the S Morgenstern thing was a bit, yet still spent twenty minutes hunting for the 'unabridged' copy in the bookstore before reluctantly buying the 'abridged' version.

I'm not really sure what I was thinking.

I used to read a lot of pretty traditional fairytales as a kid, but according to my parents i was ... dissatisfied with the gender representation, and invented my own hero called Princess Jenny who had a sword and was also an astronaut

I still don't know much about princesses but I now know a lot more about astronauts and probably would not choose to carry a sword into space.

I lent my copy of Princess Bride to a coworker years ago, and when she gave it back she told me she loved it but was really interested in the unabridged version and couldn't find it anywhere, even online, and it was really frustrating
We had to sit down and have a talk

Went on a date with a woman once, and when we were talking favourite movies, she mentioned she hadn’t seen The Princess Bride

Second date was going well and neither of us wanted it to end, so we bought a copy of it and went back to her place to watch it

We’ve been married for 11 years now.

An astronaut princess, huh? Where have I heard that before?...

The Astronaut Princess, a French-Canadian tv show from my youth

    Yeah. Yeah. Good times.
