I googled the game to figure out what was going on. Yeah, don't do that. The entire series looks like near-naked people fighting or something. Pretty stupid, but obvious why it's popular.

    Hardly,

Killa La Kill is amazing for a whole host of reasons. Largely because Studio Trigger are wizards.

edit- The whole opening sequence is just the best.

I mean, I guess? That whole thing seemed pretty dumb to me, but to each their own. I'm an old man now and gave up on anime in the early 2000s. 90s stuff (Ranma, Tenchi, Evangelion, El-Hazard, Key, Macross Plus, Fushigi Yugi, etc) was my jam, but obviously outdated and dull compared to today's standards.

Personally I don't really care for all the excessive fan service and cheese cake either, which Kill la Kill seems to have in spades. Again, if you like it or don't mind, good on you. It's just not for me anymore.

Kill La Kill is mostly social commentary hidden behind the hilarious pun that the word for Cut and the word for Clothing are basically the same, along with being similar to a few other words. So it's meant to be both ridiculous and thought provoking.

I thought it was Fashion and Fascism.

Seeing how the people fighting against the fascists are literally nudists I can believe it.

edit- And while I am typically a sub kinda guy I gotta say the dub was really good and it added a lot color to the dialogue over the subs.

I really want Super Mario Bros. 2 on the NES app.
DID YOU KNOW THAT SMB2 WAS ACTUALLY DOKI DOKI PANIC IN JAPAN? I bet not a single one of you guys ever knew that.

Also this video about the characters in Doki Doki Panic is ridiculously interesting.

You'd think they'd want to give Switch owners a reason to blow through My Nintendo platinum coins, too.

I would love the opportunity to play the original Doki Doki Panic. I don’t think they’ve ever given us westerners an opportunity.

When the frig did Spintires:Mudrunner get ported to Switch? HOW did it get ported to Switch??

Looking at reviews it is the full game with nothing snipped out and it looks amazing. Think now is the time for me to finally grab it.

It is literally super mario 2 except without a run button and you have to beat the game with every character to get the ending.

Guacamelee 1 is one of my favorite games ever. The question becomes: do I get Guacamelee 2 on Switch, because I love my Switch and love its portability and having all of my favorite indies there, or do I get it on PS4 so that I can play it in glorious 4K/HDR, with my preferred controller? LIFE IS HARD. PAGING @Octavian.

Edit: Wonder if it's 60 fps on Switch.

Well, I vote for the PS4 version. You're going to want the use that dualshock 4 on some of the trickier platforming sections.

I'm going Switch because as a gaming Dad the TV is not reliably available. And, with the Satisfye grip it's super-comfy, worth the tradeoff to me in controller and 4k. But that's me and my limitations, have RDR2, Spiderman, God of War, etc as PS4 games if and when I get TV time...

Largely because out of all the characters in Kill La Kill only two of them are in skimpy outfits.

Secondly in-universe there are reasons for it. One is story related and the second is thematic; fascists wear uniforms that cover the body, the good guys do not.

The characters in the show continually point out how ridiculous the MC's outfit is. In the beginning the MC is also embarrassed about wearing it, but since it gives her incredible power she continues to and gets used to it eventually. Her friend just assumes she is an exhibitionist and hey no judgement.

That reminds me, now that I've beat Pokemon, I should do that New Game+ of XC2. I finally bought the DLC to wedge in Torna before Pokemon came out. Now I'm post Pokemon, and it's a good time to see what the rest of the DLC looks like.

It's not too much of a change from collecting all the Pokemon to collecting all the Blades.

I think XC2 is still my favorite JRPG on Switch. Octopath started off strong but petered out for me. Ys VIII was good, but the Vita level production values were distracting a lot of the time. And for whatever reason, XC2 is the only one I feel a compulsion to play again.

I gave Warframe a try on the Switch, and it just reminded me that as someone who's been primarily a PC gamer for the last ~20 years, I do not have the brain circuitry needed to play a first-person game with a controller. Probably alright anyway, because I would never actually play Warframe on the Switch - I use it almost exclusively on the subway and sometimes during a break at work, and Warframe's always-online requirement precludes it from being played at either location.

  • DelduwathDelduwath Registered User regular
The movement felt really good, though, so I kinda wanna give it a try on PC, now.

Of course, there I will run into the opposite problem: third-person action feels mediocre on a keyboard (to me).

I think my perfect setup for games of this sort would be a Wii-style nunchuck (with a few more buttons) in the left hand for movement, and a mouse in the right hand for aiming/camera controls.

I love Kill la Kill, but in all fairness it is having its cheesecake and eating it too. There's a lotta good deconstruction stuff going on, but also y'know, nudity errywhere. And some of the best fights I've ever seen! It is a conundrum!

Gonna give it a look, but I dunno about it yet. Never really got into one of those Naruto style games.

I find it odd that people are falling over themselves to be offended by Xenoblade Chronicles 2 designs but this Kill la Kill game with the bare ass and ultra skimpy outfits is A-OK.

Okay Kojima, I think people regret their words and deeds enough. Let's all move on.

Yes! on the Guacamelee! 2 news! I bought it originally on Steam and it was a janky pile of crap on my medium-high end PC, so I'm glad it's coming with a bit of a discount.

In other "Steam games which I'd rather play on Switch" news, Prodeus got announced and I can't friggin' wait...

When the frig did Spintires:Mudrunner get ported to Switch? HOW did it get ported to Switch??

Looking at reviews it is the full game with nothing snipped out and it looks amazing. Think now is the time for me to finally grab it.

I've seen videos of this game. Are there actual missions or objectives to complete, or is it simply just 'Drive this old truck through mud until you get stuck?'

Boy, that's a lot of blood.

(It's interesting how as a young man I was like "Fukkin' yeah Mortal Kombat Did Nothing Wrong, let them rip spines you cowards", etc etc, and now as a boring 34-year-old I'm like "Goodness, is all this blood really necessary?". I look forward to being in my 70s and just having my monocle drop into my tea/having my bow-tie spin like a propeller 24/7.)

Oh man, what did you think of Mortal Kombat X?

Everyone has a price. Throw enough gold around and someone will risk disintegration.

I think I was in my early 30s when I started going into options menus and finding the "gore=off" settings as well. :) More games have it than I'd expect!

..and yes, it gets worse. I've started turning the "bleep out profanity" option on in games that give me that option. COD:Black Ops is inadvertently hilarious if you do this, as an aside.
