Man that thing was terrible, and I don't think there is a single N64 controller with a original stick that is still functional at this point.

I think I've held that controller in 3 or 4 different ways playing games and none of them felt right. I still don't know how to hold it.

So what would be the most cost effective way to get Smash and a Pro Controller? That bundle is sold out everywhere, right?

Left hand on middle prong, using analog stick; right hand on the right prong, using the buttons.

Unless a game needs the d-pad, this is how you should always hold it.

99% of N64 games were designed for the middle prong-right prong grip yeah, the only exception I can think of was some of goldeneye's more ridiculous alternate control schemes like dual wielding two controllers held by the middle prong

The bundle I think is $20 over the cost of the items separately because it comes with a steel case

So the cheapest is probably buy game on amazon (if you have prime, for discount) and try to find a used pro controller

Also as somebody who is playing the Messenger on Switch, the dpad is garbo. It's so low.

That was the best way to play Star Wars Racer. Loved doing that and having pretty good control over the thrust of each engine.

I think there were a few WWE fighters that used the D-pad instead of the analog.

The proper holding position for an N64 controller is by the cord as you are lowering it into a rubbish bin after buying an Interact pad.

Seriously, I used to have regular gaming nights with co-workers with much F-Zero and Goldeneye played, and people would almost come to blows over who got to use the Interact controller. :)

The stock n64 controller may not be the worst controller in history, but please understand that I’m making that comparison as someone who used to own an Intellivision.

Anyway. If you’re looking for a Pro controller for Smash, Amazon had a deal on them on Monday and it may be worth watching them to see if that shows up again. They also had spare Switch dock sets on discount and I grumbled and finally bought one for $49.50 which is still too much but grouse grouse I want to be able to just carry the thing from my tv next to the exercise bike to the tv in the living room without unhooking everything.

Oh right, I think I saw those Pro Controllers going for like 50 bucks, which didn't seem like much of a sale to me because I'm used to other console controllers, but now that I think about it, that was probably a big discount.

You get prompted to grab a patch the first time you insert an exFAT card, no matter your firmware.

Basically Ninty trying to avoid paying that licensing fee for people that aren't using it.

I believe it's the file system that's restricted. Larger cards have exFAT by default, that's how they get the fee. I don't know if that standard is mandated by anything, it isn't too hard to reformat SD cards to something like FAT32, and they still seem to work fine after that.

Though micro USB is so common, I don't need any more of those cables. Hardly anything I own has USBC though, so I'd be upset if the Switch controller didn't come with one.

I always have to end up going on Amazon and buying the cables because I have 0 devices that use micro USB other than my PS4 controller. I hear this argument a lot but I feel like I'm not the only one who doesn't have piles of USB cables sitting around my house. I'd rather Sony provide the means to charge the device that I just bought rather than assuming everyone has cables laying around.

Doesn't the PS4 come with a charging cable for the controller? I've had one since 2013, and I don't remember having to go out and buy a separate cable to charge my controllers.

I bought one and it didn't. The one that came with my pro had a 2ft cable with it.

Edit oh yeah the console one comes with a short cable. But if you buy a new one off the shelf it does not contain one.
