I think there’s power in labeling yourself fearlessly and unabashedly. I remember when I was younger it felt like conservatives had successfully turned the word “liberal” into a slur. Conservative radio and TV personalities kept spitting the word out with venom and eventually both the right and the left were treating it like it was a dirty word. Democrats were like “I-it’s not like I’m a l-liberal or anything baka”. I always thought that was a mistake. Own it! Yeah it’s good to read the room but sometimes it’s good to read it and then ignore what you read cuz the room needs changing.
Studies suggest ‘atheist’ is one of the least trusted groups in America. If you consider yourself an atheist, you might see that as a sign that you should keep your head down. But I think, instead, it’s a sign that atheists need to be coming out of the closet.
