I dunno, at a certain point the Steam forums are unusable anyway. If they're not gonna bother moderating them or quashing all the Nazism, then just don't have them. Same with all the other stuff that address specific Steam deficiencies.
I hate relying on corporations to fight one another for my sake, but if this is what kicks Steam in the ass and makes it fix its problems, I'm cautiously optimistic.
Turning the Steam Spy into an actual Steam Spy is pretty good, though.
I feel like they need a better hook than not having forums or reviews to jump start Valve into fixing anything. So far it sounds as competitive as Origin or Uplay. Developers get a bigger cut, but my understanding is that itch.io lets developers take 100%, yet they don't seem to have dethroned Steam despite also not having community features.

Itch.io doesn't have a Fortnite sized audience to look at their offerings. There's already a huge userbase for Epic's launcher which is a big advantage starting out.

True but the thing about Fortnite's audience, like it is for a lot of games with that big a userbase, is that Fortnite is the only thing a lot of them ever play.
If you have the Epic launcher, you also already have access to the new(er) UT as well, right there, for free (IIRC). Yet we hear precisely fuck-all about that these days.

Sure, but that's Origin's hook, too, and their low feature list hasn't made them a significant vendor of third party games to people who would otherwise only be playing Battlefield or whatever. From what I've read, between GOG and Origin and itch.io and the like, the only company that's managed to really split sales of third party titles is Oculus. I told my little sister the veteran about this whole mess. She got her vet status by driving a supply truck up through Iraq to Baghdad back during Iraqi Freedom back in 2002-03, where she was shot at repeatedly, had to stand on guard duty, and was in the line of fire just as much as anyone else there.
She wonders why a bunch of these he-men haven't signed up for the military themselves if they think women can't hack it instead of just playing a video game. Then she burst out laughing at the thought of them even making it through basic training without throwing a punch at the drill instructors.
Is it worth playing CS:GO? I never have done, but for free, why not... but I fear increased hack attacks on my Steam account, whether or not that's an irrational fear.
CS has always been a team objective-based game, not at all battle royale-like
Counter-Strike is in my mind one of the big reasons tastes in FPS games shifted away from arena shooter death matches to more realistic settings with team focuses back in the 2000s.

There are outliers of course, but most people have an instinctive distaste towards murdering women in first person shooters. Valve looked into this years ago and it is the reason why even after the artstyle was redesigned to be cartoonish there are no female characters in Team Fortress 2. Remember when Tomb Raider 2013 was released and it featured a female protagonist that was put into the exact same dangerous situations that your average brown haired white male dudebro character would normally be put in?
The internet pooped its pampers and called it "torture porn".
If you want women in action games that's cool, but don't get all weird when they start getting shot/stabbed/blown up/lit on fire/etc.

The reaction to Tomb Raider's death scenes had less to do with Lara being a woman (wasn't a problem in Silent Hills or Resident Evils) so much as the array of gory B-movie deaths (like watching Lara getting impaled through the neck and struggling for a few seconds before dying) seeming jarring in a franchise that never featured anything so gruesome and which were typically reserved for horror games. No one's surprised when Chris or Sheva get chainsawed in half, but if Crash Bandicoot gets his entrails devoured it's going to be a twist.
Anyway, I can't find a link about the Valve thing—all I'm getting is some concept art a Valve employee pitched awhile back with no reason on why they didn't use it—but either way, it doesn't seem to be a problem. It certainly hasn't hurt Overwatch, where half the cast are lay-deez who are occasionally shot at.
Seems like it'd be even less of a problem in a realistic modern military shooter, where gore is mild and fatigues/gear make everyone look indistinguishable to begin with. I barely register appearance to even remember whether I've run into the same person or not without the nametag proclaiming another fated duel with xXxIcyBlaze420xXx.

Activision isn't particularly squeamish about violence against women, either.
CODBLOPS 3 had a woman antagonist. In the space of your typical six hour COD campaign, you murder her brother, then cut off her hand because you need it to open a door and eventually kill her by holding her head in an open flame and burning her alive, all in glorious close-up.

Gee, why would people have a problem with media creating fetishistic imagery of violence committed against women? Could it possibly have to do with how women are treated in the real world? That these sorts of messages that are pervasive within the media that we consume become internalized and both encourage us to behave in shitty ways and also act as cover to excuse the behavior, such as the decades of portraying sexual harassment and assault as how you just get a girl to like you?
Valve is already shook because why else would they have changed the profit sharing percentages recently?
I say good. When Epic is out there saying "Boy, people sure like giving us money for Fortnite! We're gonna give it back to creators and also break down our store costs compared to other stores" and Valve is just a black box, you're damn right I'm into it.

Also, totally unrelated question, how quick is the Humble Support when it comes to refunds and incorrect billing amounts and the like?

I actually got the first, already unlocked levels done, full circle round, but when I started on the bronze key levels I started having lots of issues, and by the time I got to one in the castle-like area, I knew I had had enough. The traversal reminds me a lot of the original Sonic in that when the traversal worked it was lovely, but it wasn't made for someone as trigger finger as me; I'm the person that lands on a platform and sort of jumps like, three more times and off I go. Precision jumping/platforming has never worked out particularly well for me.
