As much as I want to like the Ace Attorney series, by virtue of it being at a detective game in lawyer game's clothing, I could not manage to play past the first trial without becoming irreparably pissed off. Everything that annoyed me in the first two games was back in force for a third outing. I know that asking a Capcom series to change between games is like asking a child to stop flicking the light switch on and off while you're working, but it's not like I'm asking for Mr. Wright to consider a career change to spaceman and swap his lawyer's badge for a photon shotgun; the things that render Ace Attorney unenjoyable for me are easily fixed by hiring someone who can write.
Throughout the series, Ace Attorney has been convinced that I am a cretin. I am apparently unable to read the protaganist's emotions from his dialogue without the help of pages upon pages of "thought bubbles". I apparently can not solve even the simplest of puzzles without the walls of blue text practically screaming the solutions at me, and I also can not, apparently, remember what the puzzles even are without a legion of blue words or a series of unskippable "subtle" pointers from my cretin of an assistant. I have played through the first two games in the series with the uneasy feeling that Capcom expects me to trip at every hurdle and so, rather than providing a means of progressing for those who do get stuck, they decided to remove the hurdles entirely, and replaced those sections of the track with mile-long sections of empty space, turning the game into a damned marathon.
It took me a while to take that joke to the finish line, as it were, but I got there.
Of course Portal was my #1 but I played Hotel Dusk every night till I beat it... never have I been so engrossed in a game.
1. Portal (PC)
2. Hotel Dusk: Room 215 (DS)
3. Team Fortress 2 (PC)
4. Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords (DS)
5. Half Life 2: Episode 2 (PC)
6. Lunar Knights (DS)
7. Rock Band (360)
8. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Justice for All (DS)
9. Kororinpa (Wii)
10. Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass (DS)
The rest I didn't care what order but this is the order i submitted them in:
Super Mario Galaxy (Wii)
Pokemon Diamond/Pearl (DS)
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (Wii)
Mario Party DS (DS)
Geometry Wars: Galaxies (DS)
Wario Ware: Smooth Moves (Wii)
Dementium: The Ward (DS)
Brothers in Arms DS (DS)
Super Paper Mario (Wii)
Anyway I was surprised that I've played so little too. Well I've played alot I guess I mean I havent played much of this years cream of the crop so I could only fill out about 8 spaces:
Portal (PC, PS3, 360)
Mass Effect (360)
Halo 3 (360)
Call of Duty 4 (360, PS3, PC)
Half Life 2: Episode 2 (PC, PS3, 360)
Team Fortress 2 (PC, PS3, 360)
Rock Band (360, PS3)
Bioshock (360, PC)
There are a lot of really good games I simply couldnt' put on my list, because I haven't played them.
I have a 360 on the way to me(hopefully, fucking Canada post) so I'll get to catch up.
As it is:
1. Super Mario Galaxy
2. Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow
3. Bioshock
4. HL2 Ep2
5. Metroid Prime 3
6. Mario Strikers Charged
7. Portal
8. Supreme Commander
Compltely forgot to put pokemon diamond/pearl in at 9. List was almost too long, I know I missed another game or 2.
It made me realize that while I still play my DS, I really need to catch up on some of the games for it, I haven't bought a DS game since Pearl, The Wii, and now 360 has been eating my moneys.
That TMNT vote is for the GBA version, btw. Incidentally, I got the PC version free with the dvd when it came out. Ha, it took reading about other people who missed Bioshock on the list for me to realize I did that too.
Wow, I was going to post how sad it was that of that list of games I have only played 11. But then I see some of you guys posting 3 or 5 games and I somehow don't feel so bad..
Still, so many of the games on that list that I wish I had played that I know I probably never will.
These were my 11, I think in the order I voted them in (closed page before noticing everyone was posting their list.
Super Mario Galaxy (Wii) - own
Guitar Hero 3 (PS2, PS3, 360, Wii, PC) - own
Mario Strikers Charged (Wii) - own
Rock Band (360, PS3) - friends
Mario Party 8 (Wii) - own
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games (Wii, DS) - friends
Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer (PC) - own
Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars (PC,360) - demo/friends
Halo 3 (360) - friends
Beautiful Katamari (360) - friends
Wii Play (Wii) - own
I actually own FF12, but I haven't played it yet. It's still in the wrapping actually. My brother-in-law got it for me for Christmas, despite the fact that (I believe) he is well aware (or should be) that I do not own a PS2. The reason he should know this? My wife talked to both him and her sister (his wife) about how she bought me GH2 for PS2 and couldn't find the receipt when she realized she needed to return it and buy GH3 for the Wii. (funny side note: while she was talking to the clerk over the phone trying to find a copy of GH3, she kept asking for the PS3 on the Wii instead of GH3) Poor guy must have been so confused..
I am surprised at how few of this year's games I actually played.
Same. Most of this year's great games were not played by me. I voted 1. Mass Effect 2. Portal and then couldn't think of anything else GOTY-worthy. Well, I did manage to scrape up Pokemon and Etrian Odyssey as 4th and 3rd choices. Eh.

It just proves how good this year was, best since 2004. 2004 IMO is the best year of gaming I ever had.
Anyone else find reading other people's lists really interesting? I mean 4rch3nemy has Worms DS 2 over Mario!
Dude, that game has given me so much joy. SO MUCH JOY. This is *the* game to play at my friends' houses with DS now and we have huge tourneys and what not. I *loved* Mario Galaxy but in pure gameplay, almost nothing beats out Worms.
This year was a year of unique/fun gameplay rather than continuing series/graphics I found interesting

I had no idea how rad he'd end up.
Hey, you're back! Where've ya been?
Excellent list, btw.

I thought we weren't supposed to pay attention to the number anymore?
1. Bioshock (360, PC)
2. Portal (PC, PS3, 360)
3. Halo 3 (360)
4. Rock Band (360, PS3)
5. Hotel Dusk: Room 215 (DS)

7. Mario Strikers Charged (Wii)
8. Call of Duty 4 (360, PS3, PC)
9. World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade (PC)
10. Wario Ware: Smooth Moves (Wii)
Why? Because I play old used games because I'm poor. Most of those listed above were played at a friends or borrowed.
You should have nominated it.

Bioshock (360, PC)
It was #5 on mine. Also, I think a fair number of folks have put it somewhere in their lists; basically anyone who played it, I imagine.
I say this every year but I voted for more games in this poll (over 10!) than any one we've run prior.

I'm excited to see the results though. This is always one of the better polls out there.

I forgot pokemon too. Oh well, it wouldn't have gotten too far up there.
I kept scrolling past games that I want to play, I just don't have infinite money.
And of course this year I bought and played stuff like Twilight Princess, FFXII, etc.
My top 3, if I can recall correctly (I did it yesterday)... Portal, Team Fortress 2, Rock Band.
Super Mario Galaxy (Wii) - own
Guitar Hero 3 (PS2, PS3, 360, Wii, PC) - own
Mario Strikers Charged (Wii) - own

It just proves how good this year was, best since 2004. 2004 IMO is the best year of gaming I ever had.
to avoid thinking hard and comparing specific games, i will just go with game than entranced me the most and held my attention for the longest time
so my choice would have to be halo 3
oh wait was pokemon P/D released this year?
then maybe pokemon, close call
i even played bioshock, and it was good, but almost no replay value.
portal has lots.
You fucking blink and it's over not to mention that most of the maps are rather easy.
it was pretty goddamn short though.
i cant wait until the NEXT illiteration of the orange box(half-life ep:3, portal 2)
Top three:
1. Halo 3 (360)
2. Bioshock (360, PC)
3. Persona 3 (PS2)
Odin Sphere came close to edging Persona 3 out, though.
Was I supposed to play it with some sort of ass toy? I've had orgasms that were more amusing.
I'd certainly hope so. And if you expect a video game to be more amusing than an orgasms you have some unrealistic expectations.
