There is a good mix of everything, but Jeskai is certainly less common Dimir. I think because of the matchmaking algorithm you are a lot more likely to face Dimir on game 1 than on game 7. Mostly I see RDW, mono-white, izzet, and golgari. But there is a little bit of everything played.
I see so much Izzet, Jeskai, and Mono-U. It's exhausting. Counterspells for days and days.
In constructed events? I think I see jank merfolk more often than I see Jeskai there.
that sounds really nice
but yeah I think I just get unlucky in the BO1 Constructed Event, I face loads of Izzet and Jeskai in there. I think I've yet to have a run without any Jeskai Control.
This was my experience for quite some time, but I think I'm now about 60 games since I've seen it. Now it's all dimir from the control players. The rest is the usual green stompy, RDW, WW, Golgari, and Drakes.
I think what all of this says is that the matchmaking is pretty weird. I know, small sample size and everything, but it seems a bit too different between individuals. If half the field is RDW, then it should be around some for everyone, not just totally absent for some players.
This. But I tend to lump Dimir and Grixis. I have seen 1 fog deck and 1 lich mastery deck ever in constructed events. I've probably faced RGW dino decks 20 times to put that into perspective.
When I go to ladder I always run into some jank control/combo deck that goes off if you don't run permissions or can't beat them in 5-6 turns. Decks that are in no way viable against aggro. I'm glad they exist, I just don't want to play against decks that play lands for 5 turns and then scoop or pull off some silly combo if their deck decides to work.
Like, the reason Turbofog isn't big in Bo1 right now is because it's a bad deck compared to pre-rotation and pure RDW naturally runs more face damage than pre-rotation RB aggro, along with having far more reach via Experimental Frenzy, while mono-U can tempo out critical fogs or even nexii maindeck. In a meta that actually favored turbofog it'd be brutal in Bo1
Don't forget white/boros weeny. They do a great job of keeping the solitaire decks away!
Pretty sure they beat up 'all in izzet' too. But that deck is really cheap to play so it shows up. I think the same goes for Dimir.
White/Boros weenie doesn't really beat turbofog, no. They're about as fast as BR aggro from last season and equally or less capable of finding reach for the last few points of damage. Their primary advantage is that they're resilient to removal/trades control/midrange decks are playing while gaining enough life to beat other aggro decks in a race, along with having board options that dunk on golgari and control. Nothing they do or board in changes their gameplan of "kill you by turn 5 by turning creatures sideways," which turbofog is designed to beat (except that post rotation turbofog is lacking in good cards so it fizzles too often to be good).

I actually could maybe use a few of those.
Shame I already have 4 of Vraska's

Wow, I was THIS close to spending wildcards to get these for my Golgari deck. Glad I held off.

Successfully rare drafted the last Woodland Cemetary I needed in Dominaria draft even though I locked into a black/white Knight deck pretty early. It was the only checkland I was offered. Calling that a win.
Because if you're going to attempt to squeeze that big black monster into your slot you will need to be able to take at least 12 inches or else you're going to have a bad time...
I'm very tempted to spend my wildcards on a red/green dino deck. Unfortunately a lot of the cards are from Ixalan. Do we have any idea what will happen to Ixalan cards when they rotate out of standard?

Nothing concrete, although the general assumption is that that's when they'll add Modern to Arena.

I sincerely doubt it. I think it'll just start with Ixalan, Dominaria, and Core Set 19 (I think all 3 are rotating, yeah?) being in there and they'll add more when/if they have time.
The best assumption imo is they create an arena modern and push it to paper. They've been kinda hinting they want an extended format with less accumulated OP cruft and without fetchlands
I'm like 90% sure someone just cheated in a game against me
They had a siege gang commander out with several goblins. They had one chainwhirler, and one of those little 1/1 guys you can sac for 1 red mana. 5 mountains, all tapped.
It's my turn, I attack.
He activates siege gang commander's ability, which costs 1R and sac a goblin to do 2 damage to a target and kills my thief of sanity.
But he had no mana. Only one thing he could tap to do it. It also took him a long ass time to actually take the turn, which adds to my suspicions. Unless I totally missed something, he cheated.
Like, they want Arena to translate to paper, and they 100% can't do that with "modern, but splotchy coverage as we get to it." They can do it with Ixalan (or Amonkhet or Kaladesh) forward.

Skirk Prospector lets you sacrifice any Goblin for R, not just himself. Sounds like your opponent sacced two Goblins for mana, then a third for the damage ability.

There was a really fun if stupid mono red goblins deck with God Pharoah's Gift. You could run really low land counts, flood the board with gobbos, and hardcast GPG to recur thr gobbos you sac'd to generate the mana

Really want them to bring back the casual Ravnica draft.
I'd even take Dominaria.

You can draft dom now.
Also, regarding the efficacy of CE on your collection, someone on reddit actually gathered data from a month of matches (4 queues per day!). My takeaway is that @furbat is exceedingly lucky.
I'm hoping that duplicate protection comes soon. I'm starting to hit 5th copies on cards all the time. I think I care a lot more about completing my collection of cards than getting more wildcards so when that hits life will be good.
This is part of why a lot of Golgari lists that run Llanowar Elves are switching to Druid of the Cowl instead. Still die to Lightning, but now it takes that and not just a shock, and if they're using Lightning on those then they're not using it on your Wildgrowths.

IIRC Shadows Over Innistrad was in the earliest part of closed beta as well. There has been speculation that they would go back to Magic Origins for a format. The problem is Kaladash had a lot of busted cards in it, so they would have to start the format out with some bans.
