They're both pepsico brands now, hence the convergence of branding, but walkers was originally established in the UK. They have made a fairly big deal in the past about using exclusively British potatoes.

Walkers was a British crisp company but Frito-Lay acquired them ages ago, so they probably are fairly similar beasts (although you'd be surprised at regional variations in nominally identical branded foods)

I'm sorry Britain, I really don't get this. I know the US isn't much better but why is your government pushing to leave when they clearly don't have a clue? Why was article 50 invoked when you didn't have a plan? Instead of leave or stay, shouldn't the debate have been about a specific leave plan versus staying? You know, to prevent vauge promises that can't be kept?

Like even from over hear I can see that the leave side is not united. There are tons of different ideas on how to leave. The fact that Norway Plus is being argued at this stage seems crazy! Youregovernment decided to jump out of a plane and then get their parachute in working order!

Am I missing something? Or is it really that bad?

They internalised british gallows-humour beyond recommended dosage.

I'm kind of torn here, if the polling is genuinely telling Labour that their supporters don't want a second vote.

I suppose it feels slightly cynical, given that there are no non-catastrophic options that won't be subject to this betrayal narrative, to pick the option most likely to put them in the position of governing the wreckage rather than trying to forestall the catastrophe in the first place.

My question is if these polls are just composed of elderly demographics? I don't believe that the majority of labour voters are pro brexit, I also don't believe that pro brexit old labour voters will move to the tories. They'd either abstain or most likley keep voting labour.

Ahh yes, the best reason to sell the entire country down the river.

This is just more of what we already knew: Corbyn is more interested in winning the election after the Tories break the UK then he is in actually fixing the problem.

That feels like the piece of information that's missing.

The reasons why people oppose a second ref matter. If what they think they're going to get instead is nonsense then the responsible thing is to tell them that, not indulge notions that are going to see thousands of people out of work.

    https://www.politicshome.com/news/uk/political-parties/labour-party/news/100414/jeremy-corbyn-blasts-neoliberal-eu-he-calls
"We have to recognise that EU support for austerity and failed neoliberal policies have caused serious hardship for working people across Europe, damaged the credibility of European social democratic parties, and played a significant role in the vote for Brexit.

"European socialists have to fight for a different kind of Europe."
But the UK wasn't a country the EU forced into austerity. It was always a political choice made by British leaders.

I don't get how you can both Brexit and not end up having to have austerity measures.
He said: "Our prize is a new progressive economic consensus that secures shared prosperity built on a powerful public realm.

"We must build a new Europe, inside and outside the institutions of the EU, that really does work for the many, not the few."
    HOW!?

Also, why do you expect an organization that you intend on no longer being part of to listen to you?

This has honestly been the most frustrating thing from the leftist end of the Brexit spectrum. I agree, ideologically, with a lot of the objections that crowd have with the EU. I totally get why individual socialists might want to scrape their hands clean, even at the expense of the national economy. I do not understand how a national political party with a commitment to the working class can look at the inevitable destructive outcome for their own least-well-off citizens, alongside the situations in greece and italy, and say "yeah, best option is for us to run the fuck away and leave them all to it." The UK has (or had) a ridiculous amount of pull within the Union, so it's an obscene abdication of moral accountability, and ok, sure, if you get into power and stay in the EU you are gonna feel morally tarnished, but that's true both ways.

I can only assume the end-game for that particular ideological outlook, back in 2016, was the total collapse of the EU, precipitated by the UK's abandonment. I think it's pretty obvious now that that calculation was quite likely to have been way off, so not readjusting expectations and accounting for, you know, reality, is being just as pig-headed as the neoliberal fucks trying to run the country.

The same thing all the left-wing pro-Brexiters are always on about. Like seriously, I talk to some of these people and this is like verbatim the kind of shit they go on about. Corbyn has also so obviously been one of those nuts on the left so concerned with neoliberal EU he can't see the forest for the trees. Which is not an uncommon problem in general there. Zero sense of perspective.

It's basically just accelerationism by another means. And plenty of people on the left love that shit. Always have. "After Hitler, our turn!" and all that.
