One interesting thing I hadn't know is the reason the fight scenes look comical is that the camera dude fucked up and recorded in fast motion instead of slow motion, and because the movie was made on a madcap production schedule, there was no time to go back and reshoot.
I think this movie has finally, definitely dethroned Avengers as my most anticipated film of 2019.
Avengers, John Wick 3, Detective Pikachu, Godzilla...
My god, May is absolutely bonkers with movies next year.
Happy Birthday to me.

For a Pacific Rim Jaeger to fight Godzilla or other Kaiju from the new Legendary movies the jaegars would have to be much larger and more powerful, which would increase the neural strain unless, say, you had five pilots, one in each limb and then a commander in the head or chest.... MegaJaeger assemble!

Big G, sure. But a Jaeger could go one on one with Kong or any of the other beasties on his island pretty handily.
Don't know the scale of the monsters in the new movie though.

Too much use of Godzilla's Revenge.
Stop reminding me of Godzilla's Revenge!
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
TLDW: Category 4s and up were generally same height or taller. The issue is that Godzilla weighs around 24 times as much as the largest kaiju they can be compared to:
Now, whether Godzilla is insanely overweight or the Pacific Rim Kaiju are being lowballed on theirs, who knows. I'd guess if they really did a crossover the weights would be normalized, in which case, the ringer becomes the big G's atomic breath.
I mean the weights are always silly, because once you start thinking about that too hard you get a movie wherein the Kaiju are crushed to death under their own body weight cos gravity exists

I'd guess a bit closer to the kaiju being way lowballed
A slab of meat of 100*50*50 m (approximately the dimensions of Legendary 'zilla, a bit wider and deeper plus obviously with all the negative spaces filled in) would be 265,000 tons at 1.05 kg/liter

Pacific Rim numbers don't make sense in general. I assume they were an afterthought when someone pointed out that nerds love numbers, so they better make up some big sounding numbers for their giant robot and monster movie, then all the teams dispersed, came up with their own big numbers at random and turned them in.
It's better to ignore them and just watch the giant robots punch giant monsters than to get worked up over specific numbers.

So I'm in the first semester of an MA in film studies, and I'm currently working on a proposal for my major research paper (not going to do a thesis cuz hell no) that'll compare and contrast the first Legendary Godzilla with Shin Godzilla and how they both borrow from and adapt and play with Godzilla's legacy as a whole. I'm excited about it and have gotten some good feedback from profs so far. One of the other cool things I'm doing is hosting a screening of Shin Godzilla as part of our faculty's weekly film screenings next Friday! I basically get to introduce the film and give some historical context and geek out a bit before we all watch together as a group. I'm stoked!
Oh hey so that proposal I submitted a couple of weeks ago got approval from the faculty and the head of the department is my supervisor. So now I get to study Godzilla in 2019.

Damn we're watching the backstory unfold in real time for the next Godzilla movie after Kong, where a film studies student, while researching Godzilla, discovers that the original 1954 movie was based on an actual legend and that the monster himself is real...

True, square-cube law makes Kaiju go squish. The post was mainly to point out that Jaegers have fought things that were the same height/length or larger, while being smaller.
So yeah, I’ll gladly take a movie with Godzilla trading shots with Jaegers.

Better, I'd take a movie with Jet Jaguar teaming up with Godzilla after a few fights, when they realize Megalon is the real enemy.
Edit: I meant Gigan. The chicken monster with hook hands.
I guess they'll pare it down for Godzilla VS King Kong. But I imagine there's gotta be a enemy for them to team up against.
I've said this before, but I figure they'll breach into the Hollow Earth talked about in Skull Island, and might run into subterranian dweebs like Baragon or Megalon.
Though they announced when they got the rights to Mothra, Rodan and Ghidorah and I don't think they've announced anything new since then.

I forget, is current US Godzilla like Toho's canon where every rebooted era holds the original film was part of its canon?

Nope. Legendary Godzilla is a naturally occuring organism, while original flavor was mutated by the atom bomb.

Ghidorah, the Three Headed Monster
That's the one where there's actually a fun b-plot with an amnesiac lady princess from a foreign nation dodging assassins
And also Godzilla and Rodan enter into a crossfire style debate with Mothra at the end about whether or not humans deserve their help
It fuckin' rules
