Our bathroom sink and vanity needs replacing, and we've found what would be the ideal sink, but they make it in every size except the one we want (600 mm wide, or hell, even 750mm would be okay). I was tempted to buy the one that's literally just two of what we want and have the fucking thing cut in half (it's a 15mm thick toughened glass countertop and sink bowl) but toughened glass tends to self-destruct if you try to cut it.

If anyone gets their jollies on at Ikea I find them extremely suspect

It is a place only a sociopath could love

(At least here, where both locations are packed 100% of the time)

That said, I've just ordered a new large bookshelf for my bedroom, as well as an uplighting lamp that I'm going to set up with a Philips Hue bulb to simulate sunrise in an attempt to get my ass out of bed sometime before THIRTY MINUTES AFTER MY THIRD ALARM GOES OFF. Ikea is supposed to deliver them on Saturday afternoon, although the delivery guys may freak out when they arrive and see it's a gated condo (the website says "WE CANNOT DELIVER TO GATED CONDOS ON WEEKENDS" :rotate:).

I'm also in the process of:

    1. Destroying the mealybugs that have infested my pothos plants with a treatment of soap washes, soil-scraping and neem oil spray
    2. Deploying a new wireless router and WAP
    3. Getting another round of artwork framed and hung
    4. Debating on whether I should purchase a wrought iron grille to prop on my bedroom wall and hang photos, postcards and small artworks from:

    Xj19pmcl.jpgEejpHxXl.jpgvz9tBN7l.jpg

I also really would like to refinish the doors in my apartment but since I'm not sure I'll renew my lease in July it's kind of ehhh

I've got a bunch of books I don't have room for.

On the one hand, I'm probably never gonna read them again.

But on the other, many of them are out-of-print and if I get rid of them it's likely I'll never see 'em again.

Y'know. In case I do some day wanna read them again.

Dammit, I literally just posted in the house thread about how I spent all day today completely reworking the interior layout of my living areas. I didn't see this thread until now!

    Anyway, crossposting:

    Pretty happy with the result

Also making a bit of a sitting area by the main window in front of this pink sofa; unfortunately I couldn't take a picture of it because my poor phone can't handle that much glorious Summer sunshine, but it makes for a nice little seated area.

Big stuff is all done, but still probably just as much left to do sorting out the little things and reordering where everything's home is. Gotta find room for all the kids toys and adult mementos, as well as sort out a new desk somewhere for the PC to live. Oh well, that's a problem for tomorrow (or more likely, next month).

Either way, it was a nice opportunity to get these down and have a quick dust and once over with them:

I mean, I think it's perfectly normal to get down and giving your Lego Star Wars ships a good dusting and clean up every now and then. Seems perfectly acceptable to me.

In actual cleaning news I did get my bedroom partially cleaned up and organized over the holiday but I've still got a bit to take care of. My ex also still has a closet of stuff that she hasn't removed yet and I had to give an ultimatum on that stuff. I want my clos(ur)et space! I also just need to get rid of a bunch of stuff that I've accumulated over the years and never use. Maybe I'll post some pictures of my junk and y'all can help convince me to donate/sell/toss a bunch of it.

I also got the kitchen cleaned up and scrubbed the walls and cabinets in there. It's incredible how much grime and grease accumulates in a well-used kitchen! My roommate and I also cleaned up a bunch of outstanding boxes and crap in the shared living space, so that's looking better.

I grabbed a couple chairs off the street a month or so back to supplement the ones I already had around my table (which were cheap things off amazon which aren't particularly comfortable), but they turned out to be really high chairs that don't quite fit under the table. I've been debating sticking them back on the curb or holding onto them to just have more seating for when it's needed but in the meantime they're just taking up space in the living room and I've gotta make up my mind one of these days.

This is my dilemma; since I have kids it’s also easy to hold on to them in the case that your kids might read them.

But I’ve also grown aware lately of how problematic some of my older faves are, and my kids might like different genres anyway... I did de clutter some when moving, but not enough!

I’m a huge fan of cool movie/game posters and they can look pretty classy when in a frame, too. Poster frames don’t have to be that expensive, either!

@Fishman I love that pink sofa and that looks like a really friendly and inviting place!

@Lost Salient I love the idea of hanging up one of those grilles; I think it’s a very smart one. I can’t decide which I like best, though.

Our guest room is what I would like to tackle at some point - or maybe our bedroom! I would love to organize a dedicated crafting/sewing area...

Last time I posted pictures of my clutter, I think I sent someone in D&D [chat] into shock. So I'll spoiler tag in this thread once I start posting things.

I have a lot of issues:

    1. I collect stuff. a LOT of stuff. I've gotten better about only getting things I care about, but I have a backlog that I have a hell of a time just letting go of.
    2. I keep the manuals for the toys I buy. Used to be I kept parts of the boxes too, but I've at least let that habit go. But the manuals, especially for things like Lego, take up a lot of room. I'd like to sort those in with the toys if/when I donate them.
    3. It's going to sound like a hell of an excuse, but I'm very out of shape. And as a result, de-cluttering tires me out both physically and mentally. So I keep putting it off.
    4. I want to recycle wherever possible, which isn't easy in my current apartment. Basically I have to use the municipal bins, which are separated paper and containers and a couple miles away. So I need to trudge in bad weather out to these things to do my bit.

Still, this is one thing I want to commit to this year. I want a new house sometime this year, and de-cluttering and preparing for that is part of the deal.

I decided to post pictures without doing any pre-cleaning, to properly indicate where I'm starting from.

Warning: VERY messy apartment ahead. These are the negatives of being a toy, board game, video game, and model collector.

This is my couch and living room from the front. Usually I can clean the couch off enough to sit if needed.

    QhN311xl.jpg

This is behind the couch. It kind of became a storage place as I got some new shelving.

    F3pIL4il.jpg

I set up this table to give a flat surface to organize things and act as a "wave" / staging area to clean up the living room. It didn't work.

    ckPpfu8l.jpg

This is my main table. It's actually clearer than it's been for a while?

    dkK2ZdVl.jpg

My display and board game shelves. I'm horribly utilizing this space.

    gLwLgckl.jpg

My kitchen area, and kitchen table. It looks worse now because I bought groceries yesterday and haven't cleaned up after myself.

    VlgMroyl.jpg

My "hallway" to the guest bathroom. I bought a shelf that became overflow space in here, and it became.. well, just that, overflow.

    HbS9Rusl.jpg

My guest bedroom/den. This was where I set up my older collection things, and has kind of become the dumping ground since I stopped using my computer due to its age. It gets really cold in here. It also is where I'm storing funiture I was given by my mom, that may be of use in a future house but I can't seem to get rid of.

    h6Ig5e0l.jpg

    5LLwnCLl.jpg

The guest bedroom closet, where I stored large bins from my last move (5 years ago) and other junk.

    TITZOyzl.jpg

    bSAz0JLl.jpg

My bedroom. Lots of dust, lots of clutter. I tend to spend a lot of my life laying down, so things I play with end up here, along with old clothing.

    usD6omLl.jpg

    B8yEuZXl.jpg

    zkffWWKl.jpg

There's a few areas I didn't photograph. Namely the bathrooms and my bedroom closet (that I never really open).

So that's... the horror. I know it's a mountain. The thing is, I need to just... chip at it. I'm tired of living like this. I am horrible at cleaning... and I am afraid people will think I'm a hoarder, that I'm living in my own filth.

So.. yeah. This is where I start. I'll try my best to post updates, so that I can be held accountable, and keep in mind that small progress over an extended time will achieve results.

(Let's see if this works better than my cleanup blog.)

    I believe in you, @Athenor !

I can definitely recommend a schedule and concentrating on one small area at a time. Anytime I feel like my house needs a big clean, I’ll start with the smallest room (even the laundry room or the bathroom!), or the room with the least amount of stuff in it, and I always feel so much better once that is clean.

Keep us updated! I know most of the tidying articles you see these days are cribbing from either Marie Kondo or that Swedish Death Cleaning book, and those seem really useless to someone trying to live in a limited space as a collector. You might find some good tips at Unfuck Your Habitat. I have found that a really good resource for sustainable lair management.

I have tried in the past to break it up into areas. In actuality my kitchen table can be cleaned up in about 5 minutes because I did some previous work on it, and the models I've been working on / photographing are taking up most of it. My goal for tonight is my main table area - putting away my amiibo, some of my board games, and getting stuff off the floor.

I freakin' love the waterplane style sinks, but I feel they are one of those designs that is really going to come into and out of style. I've been looking at a basin sink like this one below for our double vanity. I'm not sure what counter top surface to go with though. Bathroom is mostly white farmhouse style, with faux stone tile (vinyl) flooring.
