School Event Name

SeñorAmorSeñorAmor !!!Registered User regular
Howdy, folks.

I could use some of your smart, creative brains to help me name a school event I'm chairing.

Last year I chaired a "Donuts with Dads" event that was a smashing success, but I'm told there were some concerns that the name threw some people for a loop. At least one child had their father pass away and they were unsure if they could come with their mom. I honestly expected everyone to feel comfortable attending, and didn't event consider changing the name (I took over chairing the event; I didn't name it), but I guess that wasn't the case.

I'm chairing again this year and would like to request your help in coming up with a new name that's a bit more inclusive so no one feels left out.

It's a Saturday morning event for a few hours and we serve donuts, juice, milk, coffee, fruit and possibly bagels this year.

Some proposed names:

- "Donuts with Dads (and moms and aunts and uncles and grandparents and...)"
- "Breakfast with Buds"
- "Fritters with Friends" (not really a fan of this one)

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

:)

Also, alliteration is not strictly necessary, but it is fun.

I considered "The Breakfast Club" but this is for an elementary school and if "Donuts with Dad" caused problems, a reference to kids in detention might not be a good alternative.

I'm assuming you have language in the flyer/announcement saying its not just for dads right?

My kids school also has a muffins with mom.

They do each around their respective day (mothers, fathers) and I am assuming the goal is to get the kids to have some quality time with their parent.

Father's Day being at the end of the school year (June) makes it harder to this event at that time.

We had Muffins with Mom but that was before I joined the PTO and we haven't had it since for some reason.

I'd rather it be inclusive if it's going to make some people unsure whether or not they're welcome to attend.

If last year was any indication, no attending children will spend any time with their parents, lol. All the kids played with each other while the parents sat and drank coffee and talked among themselves.

These are both very good, but they sort of imply that this is for parents.

A PTO member suggested "Pastries with Peeps" at one of our previous meetings, but it got some groans so I didn't include it my original post.

I realize I can't possibly account for all groups and someone is going to feel left out, but I'd like to minimize that as much as possible.

Thanks again, everyone, for all your suggestions. It's greatly appreciated. :)

This was my first thought, also

Lox (or Lattes) with Loved Ones
    Chatting with Children
    Bring-A-Parent Breakfast

Unless you want entire families to come for free daycare, it might be best subtly indicate in the name that the event is meant to be one-on-one, or in the case of more than one kid at the school, one adult per unit. "Family" sets a different tone, and the amount of time I as a parent spend on fine print on the flyers my son brings home is nonexistent. By the time I've finished reading the name of the event I've probably decided if I want to do it or not.

And it seems like all is dying, and would leave the world to mourn

I'm hoping for a "come one, come all" response.

I had intended for more than just dads to come last year -- and that did happen -- just with the unintended side effect of making some people unsure if they could also come.

The more the merrier, as far as I'm concerned, though I may have to get more donuts and coffee. :D

Lox with Loved Ones is how I would choose to spend my saturday, but I would wonder at how the school board was paying for it.

Hot cross buns with hot cross nuns?

Granted, this would only work for a Catholic school, but I was too amused not share it.
