They'll arrest the teens because "Satanism" and that's the overturned conviction that's mentioned in the 1990 interview
it's probably also not the mom's cousin because that seems too easy but he'll probably be a strong red herring?

Put that in a pile of shows like Our Cartoon President that I utterly refuse to give the time of day

So there were a couple references to the Yellow King. And so now our friend group is divided into "oh hey an easter egg" and "Ohhhhh shit RETURN TO CARCOSA"
Which I'm definitely in the former here. Because tying in s1 in a big way would feel like a real real desperate move at this point.
Wait what were they
When the 2015 documentarians are talking about the dolls they talk about them possibly being related to secret pedophile rings like "The Crooked Spiral."
And apparently a book in the missing kids room has connections the Yellow King stories, but I didn't catch that one.
It was mentioned in the same breath as what was apparently a hoax case.
So it’s probably not something to make a mountain out of.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.

Oh I agree. Im just preparing for the CTHULHU IS GUNNA EAT RUST COHLE style theorizing that season 1 had.

Yeah I figure they will be leaning hard into expectations of the West Memphis Three case. So I figure the whole thing will be red herrings on that alone. With the guilt seen in the later timelines being based around wrongful convictions or shunning of the three teens. The cousin I figure is there also to throw off the chase by making him a surrogate for Terry Hobbs (the guy who a lot of folks presume is the killer now a days)
But given that it's True Detective, it's super likely that we haven't even seen the killer yet. If we ever really do even.

It’s totally the unnamed woman who showed up with the pumpkin pail in one scene and then has been in the background of a few scenes with barely any lines.

As soon as Bill told Eve about his non traditional family/life and they bonded, I knew he was going to be killed off to up the stakes.
And hey presto! He didn't last the episode. PHHHHBBBTTTTTTTTTT
And that's my interest in the show gone. I was really liking it but that is just the most unbelievably lazy writing these days.
That is the undeniable low point of the series. The show immediately bounces back, and stays bounced. It's a bum episode, and I wish they'd done it better, but it's the only sour note in the season.
(For me, that is)

Hmm. Okay, I'll give it another shot based on those posts!
I was going to complain that I still had no way of streaming S3 of Magicians, even though I'd seen 1.5 episodes on the plane, and then I realised it's actually on Netflix.
So I guess I have no complaints, but now I have that disgruntled feeling you get when the venting of an irk has been stymied.

It's not a show I'm willing to pay money for, so I just wait until it turns up on hulu or netflix. But it's generally pretty solid, with periodic excursions into genuine brilliance.

the magicians is the most millennial show I can think of, and I mean that as a compliment
the characters are complex and diverse and very very gay

I'm constantly surprised at how much I like it, given I disliked the book so much
but I think that's partly down to the story being a lot more interesting when you don't have to view it from Quentin's PoV all the time, and partly because the show writers are at least 80x funnier than Lev Grossman.
And that episode in season 3 with Elliot and Q (you know the one if you've seen it) is very well done, great character stuff and the fact that it wasn't just wiped away really added a ton to Elliot and Q's interactions.
And I really like what they did with Julia in season 3. Got themselves out of that evil rape hole.

Making the two most ironic, "modern" characters the ones who have to deal with medieval fairy bullshit all day helps a lot, I think. The stakes are real, so they have to take it seriously, but they're cynical enough to not automatically buy into the underlying assumptions.

Huh. Conan O'Brien and I share the same existential philosophy. Neat!

Eventually all our graves go untended is depressing as fuck.

I find it extremely freeing and uplifting, personally. Focus on having a fulfilling life that brings joy and satisfaction to you and the people you care about, not on trying to have a lasting impact in history even at the expense of your own happiness, because we're all going to be forgotten one day anyway.

Yeah this is the kinda thing that I would probably find funny if it weren't an actual thing our trashbag president is trying to do
Expect plenty of unreliable narration.
For what it's worth I checked and Steve McQueen really did die on November 7th, 1980. So the date for the 80s events is probably accurate.
brb I'll make a True Detective Thread.

this is pretty much the only moment of less than stellar writing in the show
keep going!

S4 starts next week!
And I will just say Tim Meadows was very charming as a cannibal of children.
The man has range.

sometimes he loses hard, but he also grows from it rather than being mopey white protagonist

the cast cannot be praised enough
