I've been on a original Doom binge this month and the message I'm getting from all of you is "THE NEW DOOM IS AWESOME, YOU SHOULD TRY IT", now I wonder how well it would run on a R9 380 card. Which IIRC was middle of the line back in 2015.
Did a quick google if that card will run it and I’m seeing people say yes. Maybe not on ultra, but highish at 1080p. It’s got Vulkan support which helps a lot. But there’s not a huge difference between the graphics levels in Doom. It’s super optimised.
There a demo on Steam so you can give it a try for free.

It ran really well on my R9 280. Not well in OpenGL, but there was another setting you could use and it ran smooth like butter.
I believe it was Vulkan instead of OpenGL.

GeForce GTX 765M is what I have, and DOOM ran extremely well in all circumstances on high to medium settings. Also, there are certain settings (I can't remember which ones) that have no noticeable effect on the visuals, at least on my computer.
Basically, they made it amazingly well optimized.

there I was in co-op Vampirating it up with @Karoz in Total War: Warhammer II playing as my Mutant Mermaid Pirate Queen Aranessa Saltspite when I was suddenly offered a peace deal by those treacherous Skaven ratmen from Clan Skryre, who were this time going so far as bribing me...
Naturally, always being an enterprising Pirate Queen, I accepted their bribe. Sensing weakness, I found their last rat hole of a hiding spot and promptly declared war. Needless to say, this made the Skaven rather ornery.
Faced by such intransigence, I set about exterminating the ratmen infestation
Meanwhile, Karoz busied himself obtaining the Mummy King crown, facing off with the forces of Chaos..
Unfortunately, this brush with Chaos must have warped his ancient dusty Mummy King brain because he then proceeded to raid my lands as part of some Mummy King Quest!
Welp, guess that simplifies things. I'll be giving Loren Amazon Princess and Heroes Rise a try because @JaysonFour saw fit to knock me over the head and push them into my library while I was unconscious. Thanks very much

DOOM 2016 is supposed to be super well optimized, runs well on much less than people expect.
I have a 4GB GTX 960 and I get consistent 60+ fps in nuDoom with everything maxed except for AA at 2560x1080. Our cards trade blows in benchmarks so you should be fine.
The first time I played it was when I had an 8GB RX480 and it was absolutely insane getting triple digit framerates on a modern (for the time) AAA game on a $280 GPU.
So my new phone is actually able to play games, and while there's a dearth of anything even worth trying on the play store there was a visual novel-type thing that looked promising. A variety of scenarios to play through, can make your own character and dress them up, etc. Fun premise. The key selling point was all the different choices you could make along the way to alter the story.
Except upon getting into the game the choices were always: "Do this fun interesting thing that sounds cool and will make the story go better" or "Decline and do nothing instead". Guess which one cost 20 gems to select.
Since there are more actual games on steam and not just people writing programs to extract money from people's wallets, does anyone know of anything that would be similar to that but actually meet the premise instead of just being fake? Visual Novels really aren't an area I know much about and looking through Steam it just seems like it's all porn porn and more porn.
I think someone recommended Choice Of Game's , er, "Choice of" series, but I'll second it. Choice of the Deathless in particular is outstanding. The author they got in to do the writing, Max Gladstone, has written a series of novels in the same world as the game, and they are brilliant. And available for phone and desktop.

I got stuck after the first few missions in Wolfenstein 2 cause I suck at the pew pew pews and stopped playing. But now I feel shamed into playing it again. I need to start over on easy mode or something. Those damn Nazis and their bullet sponge technology! What's worse is that the game KNOWS easy mode is for wimps like me..
The "easy mode is for babies" is a holdover from the original Wolfenstein 3D that I really wish they would have left in the past.
Shaming people for playing on easier modes is shitty enough, but to do it for a game that (At launch at least) had combat that was kind of broken and a noticeable downgrade from the first game... like, get bent please?

I finished Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus. GODDAMN THAT WAS GREAT. Strongly recommend it, play on whatever difficulty you want, just experience the craziness. Or hell, if you want you can check my vods for the past 3 days to see someone play through it, or watch someone else play it. Its an amazing experience.

We're drawing ever closer to February 2nd where the Winter Sale stuff expires so if you're still holding on to any of those goodies be sure to complete your badges, sell your cards or knicknacks (or use the latter).
Im so fucking excited, but im going to be playing through it on Saturday and streaming the entire thing. Berry was really interested in watching it and shes off on Saturday so she can catch the whole thing.

For DLC I’d recommend Utopia (which adds megastructures and greatly enhances the general gameplay) and Distant Stars (adds a few more megastructures, adds lots more random events, and generally fleshes out the experience).
Apocalypse expands offensive capabilities, notable adding Death Stars. Leviathans adds huge space beasts randomly around the map. Synthetic Dawn lets you play a machine empire. I don’t have Megacorps yet so I can’t comment.
Generally the first two I feel expand the game significantly, fleshing it out to a fuller experience. The others are more flavour additions, adding some fun stuff.

According to the last frame of a GIF animation posted in its store page, Yakuza Kiwami will be released next 19th of February on Steam.
Currently greatly enjoying the punch-money-out-of-people simulator Yakuza 0, and I already want Kiwami to drop.
I've been waiting months for PC Kiwami. At least we now actually have a date. It's further away than I'd like, but that should give me time to rinse the RE2 remake beforehand.

Well thank you for sending me Mafia III @Gear Girl. I love the previous entries but haven't gotten around to getting 3 yet, mostly due to the lukewarm reception and a ton of other games to play. I'll check it out soon, though.
Hi all, I'm back from PAX South. Fav. game from there was Swapette Showdown. Short version is it's Tetris Attack/Pokemon Puzzle League with the addition of characters that have special abilities.
For example, one special is to send an orb to an enemy which bounces around their board and obfuscates their vision. Another 'hacks' a block, turning it into a trash block. They also had a character that used a 2x2 selector instead of the usual 1x2 which made for some different gameplay. Overall, very cool to see someone bring back Tetris Attack.
Also thought Overland was pretty neat. Procedurally generated areas your character(s) have to progress through. Turn-based in movement and action (even when out of combat), and based on previous level's choices affects the new areas. Set x years after a post-apocalyptic event, all the guns have run dry. Something about how when you make noise the level reacts to it (lore is along the lines of the Earth reacting to being disturbed, I think...) sending out monsters and what not.
Boyfriend Dungeon looked cool, but I didn't get a chance to play it. From what I could see, the action/combat parts seemed fluid and from what I heard from the dev I was talking to, the dating seems more open-ended than say Dream Daddy where the game finishes once you get one ending. Boyfriend Dungeon allows you to date all the weapons if you choose. (I saw some discussion in the thread before I left, so it was cool to talk to them at the show)
Agents Of Mayhem must be how people who don't play video games see video games. All light and noise, signifying nothing.
There's so much detail to upgrades, crafting, weapon types, character styles but it's all just a hodgepodge. Would I like to have an area effect with extra stun or a multi strike doing low damage or an area denial attack that boosts haste or blah blah blah stop talking, please. Enemies in this game go down way too fast to normal run, jump and shoot, I don't have time to consider the dozen of options you're proposing. Certainly lacks the charisma of Saints Row 4 too...
As I've been playing Stellaris lately myself, I should consult with our local experts. I think @ToyD volunteered to answer my questions last time I mentioned my newness to the game, so I'll ask here.
1. Empire Sprawl vs Administrative Capacity. How should I approach this? It seems on the game I failed recently vs the Crisis, I had something like 700 Empire Sprawl, vs something like, 200 Admin capacity. Overall, I think the game was going great even with that kind of sprawl, I just couldn't deal with the crisis financially. My fleet was able to beat them in individual battles, but my economy was in the red.
2. Trade Value. They don't mean anything unless they get delivered to the capital correct?
3. Galactic Market. How could you get selected by it? I've promoted my capital for it, but obviously didn't get it. Do I need high trade value in the capital? Do I need high trade value overall, including colonies?
Times are still at 4 pm PST, but Thursday and Friday remain potential late start days. Be sure to download the games ahead of time. Games subject to change based on who shows up.
Fuck the police, superheroes suck, my character is probably going to become an authoritarian overlord because yes some of these assholes deserve to die and no I don't feel bad about it.
I'm sure if I played again the veil would be lifted and i'd see how linear the story actually was, but I liked it. They did a good job hiding the choices.
