Ozzy Osbourne has had to postpone the entire European leg of his tour due to ill health. Still recovering in part from a staph infection which resulted in hand surgery, and now with flu and bronchitis in the current weather (not as crazy here as in the USA, but still unusually frigid; today was apparently the coldest day in the UK for seven years), it's no joke.
Been rocking this album a lot this week. I enjoyed it when it came out (over 10 years ago!), but it's slowly become one of my favorite tech-death albums.

Probably their best. Trilateral Progression is also close.
Really not digging Soen even though lots of people have been talking about them today. Digging the Ossuarium album after one listen, and seriously a huge thank you to Auto for the Musmahhu recommendation. That album is fucking KILLER from front to back.
Couple things that dropped today I dig:
Enon Chapel: https://acephalewinter.bandcamp.com/album/enon-chapel
Enon Chapel is the new side project of Meghan Wood (Crown of Asteria, Iarnvidgur) and Balan (Palace of Worms, Botanist, Ordo Obsidium). The project was Inspired by their mutual interest in the darker aspects of Victorian-Era London and in particular the tale of Jack The Ripper and the burial crisis of the first part of the century which saw London cemeteries literally bursting with rotting corpses- the result of a massive population surge. Taking influence from the raw and ravaged sound of lo-fi Black Metal basement dwellers such as Ildjarn, Bone Awl, Cult of Daath, Les Legions Noire, and The Black Twilight Circle, then injecting the sound further with Punk and Thrash elements, Enon Chapel has crafted a raw, visceral burst of darkness straight out of the crumbling crypts of Highgate Cemetery.

Tonight I was asked if I was to get any song lyric tattooed on my body, which would it be? I said, after about fifteen seconds of consideration, “Don’t waste your time always searching for those wasted years.” May as well be my favourite song from my favourite band.
The new Flotsam is indeed great, surprisingly great, but I still like a bunch of other releases more (Musmahhu, Ondfodt, and Funereal Presence for sure).
Man, black metal is continuing to rule me in 2019. The new Meslamtaea is great, kind of a unique style with the barked vocals mixed with the unholy rasps, and the music always atmospheric no matter the speed. So good.

Yeah, it may be the overall best I've heard from F&J, so much so I may go and see them in June. The venue is about a 30 minute drive and the tickets are $15. Problem is it's a mere week after I'm going to Chicago to see Avantasia and then coming back to KC to see Hyde, and Light the Torch, I may be completely wiped after those 2 days.

This probably got posted half a year ago but I’ll never get caught up on all the good releases of the last few years
GRAVEN MAUL (this is an excellent fucking band name), crust / death where you feel like you’re wearing a vest with grind band patches and shoving people in the pit
Sinmara and Suffering Hour are doing a small US tour, I'd love to catch them here in Worcester but with the Voivod gig on a weeknight the previous week, it's not likely I can make that one.
Some more black metal I've been digging on, kind of like a Finnish early 90s Mayhem, raw and nasty but with some glorious riffs in there too. It really picks up once the intro tune switches over.

Yeah I listened
I’ll give it a shot
But it feels doomed front the start from a headline. “Band that was super culturally relevant a decade ago makes a comeback album with a terrible name.”

Not sure what you guys think of Astronoid 'round these parts, but I'm listening to their new album and I'm enjoying it. It's a good effort to follow their last album Air, which I quite enjoyed.

Garry: I know you gentlemen have been through a lot, but when you find the time I'd rather not spend the rest of the winter TIED TO THIS FUCKING COUCH!

Astronoid isn't bad, I believe they're local to me here in Mass.
Ok, so I'm revealing my age again, but I'm listening to Accept for the first time (Breaker, specifically). Where has this been my whole life? Udo is a maniac.

Yes, yes they do.

20 buck spin is great
With only one thing released from them in the last 2 years I was afraid they'd simply devolved into a Rush cover band.

I don't mind it, vocals remind me a bit of the Wodensthrone debut. So much that I actually looked to see if it was the same guy (it wasn't)
The style was okay, they were just kind of muffled and indistinct.

Morild Så kom mørket og tog mig på ordet En sort sky af minder I afgørende stunder Frosset fast til mit indre Jeg håber det forsvinder med lyset At dø eller blive fri

This is atmospheric black metal, which I thought was going to be the same old shit as every other hipster bullshit band doing it these days, but it is not. It very much is not. It has a lo-fi second wave bm sound mixed with some synths and quieter passages. Really great stuff.

Coldwave. Darkwave. Call it what you like. It rules.
Still undecided on buying the wax
Yeah Musmahhu is bananas, probably my favorite January metal release.
How about the verse in "Good or Bad"?

Interesting, produced by Steve albini
You can make some pretty good riffs out of that if you quickly click back and forth through different times.
I’ll give it a shot

They are a ton of fun live, though.

Breaker through Metal Heart = four essentials.
Indeed, although I'm an outlier in that I like Restless and Wild most out of those four, since it gave us this:
