I thought, based on the title, it would be one kind of movie, and that was an idea I was here for, and then I saw the trailer, and it seems like a very different kind of movie, one that I am also here for, but which seems at odds with a lot of the basic conceits

I have breaking news! With links so people believe me
the man who killed hitler and then the bigfoot is available on demand however
The reviews on it don't sound great. I was tempted to watch it this weekend, but not so sure now.
i have not read a single one honestly
i don't trust reviews
If I scan through 5-10 reviews and most of them point to the same issue(s) with a film, and it's something that is likely to be an issue for me as well, I'll usually wait until I can watch it without paying anything (beyond my pre-existing monthly fees or whatever).

oh yeah no i get it. i just never know what will or won't work for me. even i can't predict me, so getting too much feedback is actually a negative? weird, i know.
i basically just go with the gut reaction i get from a trailer
it's accurate like 96% of the time for me

The Trench will probably never actually get made, like a bunch if other DC projects, but I don't hate it.
They were legitimately creepy and would make for a good horror flick
It's just such a weird pull to make instead of, like, a Mera or Black Manta movie
Seems like it could be entertaining if they managed to get an almost lovecraftian horror of the unknown going.
But this line:
Wan and Peter Safran will produce the project, titled The Trench, which would be much more modestly budgeted than the normal DC superhero tentpole.
kind of quashes any anticipation, because I can't imagine a movie about a CGI trench at the bottom of a CGI ocean populated with CGI hordes of CGI monsters would be able to conform to a modest budget, even a budget that is only modest when compared to other super hero movies.
Can't we like get Woody Allen, Roman Polanksi, Max Landis and James Dean (the porn performer not the dead actor) out to some deserted island where we like dropped nuclear bombs on it?
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.

The last thing we need is them turning into nuclear super-powered mutants.

you fucking ugh
Apparently when he isn't writing about movies, Jordan Zakarin dabbles in making short films. He's credited as the writer and director of winners like The OCD Couple - "A guy tries to leave his apartment to go on a date, but keeps getting sucked back in by the imaginary roommate that embodies his obsessive compulsive disorder."

Look, I can respect the 'get work, get paid' ethic required of those working the entertainment industry, but after Woody Allen, Louie CK, and now Landis, I'm beginning to wonder if Chloe Grace Moretz really honestly didn't have alternative opportunities to pursue.

If she signs on for jeepers creepers 4 someone should stage an intervention.

Honestly Im a little more worried FOR her then worried about her. She has been in the business since she was a child and appearing in that many movies with abusive men makes me wonder if she's entirely making these choices.
I'd buy that someone wasn't aware that Max Landis is a problem, or that she was even aware of who she was working with. Her agent needs to fucking...learn how to use google, for one
Going back to Soderbergh for a sec, one thing I like to keep in mind when thinking about his work is that he’s almost always worked as his own cinematographer, even on his biggest productions. While that gives him a rare amount of control over his films, and a more direct connection to his images than a lot of directors have, it’s an enormous amount of responsibility on set. Not just creatively, but simply managing crew. I’m sure he has help, but a big part of being a cinematographer is working with the camera/grip/gaffer crew.
So with that in mind I can definitely see the appeal of this:
Like New Mutants if it ever got released and was good all of a sudden
I'd like to see a take on Hellblazer with a horror movie sensibility.

I watched Y Tu Mamá También last night. It’s really good! It’s also one of the horniest movies I’ve ever seen, and I admire Cuaron’s dedication to having his male actors hang dong as frequently as possible.

I've always wanted to know how the conversation at Warner Brothers went.
"Have you seen Y Tu Mamá También?"
"I have! Did you think the same thing I did watching it?"
"That's a lot of peni--" "Harry Potter!"

A "modest" budget for a superhero movie nowadays is like 60-80 million dollars
If they don't get any real big names, that's still a lot to work with, effects wise
I was curious on how this was shaking out so I looked this up, I like the Jezebel heading for this

Here is a handy dandy thread of all the various ways Max Landis sucks ass
Wait, is this her justification for doing the movie?
Polanski has made “feminist” films. Louis CK has done “feminist” comedy. Their actions kind of negate that fact!
The last thing we need is them turning into nuclear super-powered mutants.

Incidentally, she did a very strange film with Louis C.K. a couple of years ago that was never released.

That's Landis' opinion, Moretz hasn't commented as far as I've seen.
