Well, you can only have four behemoths in a 2000 matched play game, but those four behemoths could be your battleline choices, so pretty much!

The Skaven terrain feature looks to be very useful, maybe the most useful of these new army specific scenery pieces.

the gitz immunity to battleshock is extremely strong

That and three max units of stabbas with the battalion bonus is an extra 120 dudes for nothing which is a loooottt of battleshock immune bodies.

For sure, Loonshrine is also handy as a big, LoS blocking obstacle, which can be handy, and there's certainly no argument from me that the Battleshock-proof aura on that giant footprint isn't a powerful tool!

I’m a big fan of every army getting a big free terrain piece. It’s a nice way of creating some really unique elements for each army.

    WTF is Warcry though?

At a wild guess I'm going to say it's an AoS version of Killteam? I can't see them wanting to undercut Underworlds' massive success in the boardgamey arena and AoS skirmish is pretty barebones as a ruleset so could stand to be replaced.

Killteam plus some cards stuff from Underworlds, would be my guess. By the look of the trailer, I'd say there will be a bunch of themed warzone terrain/board-sets for different realms.

So, I got 3 boxes of sc! beastclaw raiders, although I'm still waiting for the last one and haven't yet picked up the second. (My FLGS was only allowed to order them one at a time due to the price hike, but at least I got the first two at the old price.)

I've been pondering ways to customize them, and possibly add a wizard (firebelly or butcher), and coming up with some fluff.

Here's what I've got so far (fluff):
This band of br doesn't move from area to area, killing/eating everything and leaving the ruins smothered in a magical, perpetual blizzard.

Instead, they move from area to area, demanding tribute under threat of killing/eating everything and leaving the ruins smothered in a magical, perpetual blizzard. They move on quickly enough that the everwinter doesn't have time to (totally) destroy the area, and so can return later to claim new tribute. (They also accept extra to actually destroy rival kingdoms.) Way less effort for pretty much the same gain.

How did they arrive at this radical idea?

They were destroying/eating a minor skaven kingdom, when one of the rat-men in a desperate attempt to save its life suggested the above scheme and that they please don't eat it. The frostlord liked this idea, and promised to not eat the skaven if it turned out to be a good idea.

It did, and so the skaven is still hanging out with the br band. I'm thinking of using it with a proper scenic base as a firebelly/butcher or just having it ride with the br as a huskard.

I based this on a real historical event:
After Ghengis Khan had conquered (northern) China, his Mongol advisors recommended he kill all the Chinese and turn the area into grazing area for the horses.

However, another Central Asian group, the Uighur had previously been conquered and assimilated into the Horde by the Great Khan, and some of them had risen to great prominence. At least one of them had become an advisor to Ghengis.

And the Uighur advisor had an alternative plan. By killing the Chinese, the Horde could plunder maybe 1 million bales of silk. If the Khan let them live, the Chinese would produce a surplus of half a million bales of silk for the Khan per year.

Ghenkis liked this idea, and the Chinese were not genocided.
If you follow foreign affairs, you may have heard the name Uighur before; they currently live in the Xinjiang region of China. Proving that no good deed goes unpunished, the Chinese are currently busy culturally genociding them.

    Sic transit gloria mundi.

Apologies if something like this has already been asked. I'm basically brand new to tabletop miniatures games. (I briefly glanced at Warhammer in the late 90s, but I was a kid with very little spending money at the time.) Fast forward to now: originally I wanted to just get some minis for painting practice, but I was looking through the AoS stuff and have fallen in love with the Aelves' aesthetics. I figure if I'm going to paint some stuff, it might as well be the start of an army. Where do I start with them, though? The GW online store doesn't have a battletome for them, so where can I find the unit lists, etc.?

I ordered the $8 "getting started" pamphlet. I realize it's going to be essentially a long brochure for GW products, but it at least contains core rules and some context for much cheaper than the core book.

I'm not looking to jump into this feet first. For now I mostly want information and a box of footsoldiers to paint. Finding useful beginner's info on GW's website is like pulling teeth, though. They really want you to buy a starter game.

There are three full Aelf factions currently, the Idoneth Deepkin, Daughters of Khaine and the Slyvaneth.

All are on the side of Order.

Rumours currently point to more aelf factions coming this year.

The Aelves without a battletome are just a collection of old models from Warhammer Fantasy before Age of Sigmar. The unit have rules on the download section of the GW website but I doubt they'll get a full battletome.

Though their rules might be included in the Grand Alliance: Order battletome.

The older Aelves in a bit of a tricky spot right now, especially for new players, with a lot of them split into smaller sub-factions with the coin still up in the air on whether they'll receive any future support or not. To be optimistic it does seem like GW is at least a little aware of this issue and they do look to be tidying up the AoS scene somewhat with the rapid fire release of battletomes, but it's hard to speak on the future with any certainty.

The 'safe' aelf factions are the ones which already have a battletome to call their own, as mentioned above, Sylvaneth, Daughters of Khaine, and Idoneth Deepkin. Darkling Covens are the only other Aelf faction which has specific rules support in the form of some special rules in the General's Handbook, so it is possible that we might see more of those in the future, though I don't know of any particular rumours pointing in that direction right now (though the last three battletome announcements have been kind of out of nowhere, so it's not impossible.) All the other aelf stuff is certainly legal for play, you can use it in a general Order army alongside the other forces of Order, or you could build, say, a Phoenix Temple or Order Draconis force if you wanted to be more specialised.

Hopefully this isn't too disheartening, AoS is a very fun and quick to learn system if you get into it, it's just unfortunate that aelves in a weird place at present. If you want something you can spin out into a full army collection then I would recommend picking from one of the three current Aelf battletomes. However, if none of those suit your aesthetic preference I might suggest just grabbing a kit which you think looks cool or otherwise catches your interest, and enjoy working on painting it. You will be able to use it in games, the rules for each model kit can be found on the GW webstore in the 'rules' tab on the page for that particular kit. (So from the main store page you would click to Age of Sigmar, open the Grand Alliance Order section at the side, select 'Aelves', and then on any of those individual kit pages you can see the rules tab underneath pictures of the model, it's not the most intuitive website in the world, no...) All of the Aelf stuff can be used in the same army if you like, though not necessarily a very competitive one.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that on the page for each individual unit you can scroll down and there is a download section.

This contains the rules for that unit.

Even armies that have battletomes have their rules on their website page which is handy for looking if you like their playstyle.

One of the reasons my brother is just in the wait and see
    He has a wood elf army of old but he is not really keen on the Sylvaneth. While looking to see what he had he found he had a high elf army he was building {unlike me he found people to play Warhammer with} But remarked I don't this army is even legal anymore and how odd it was they had not released a Elf army book for AoS {this was a few weeks before the DoK came out}

Basically everything aside from named characters, Bretonnians, and Tomb Kings are still 'legal' and even those got points in the first General's Handbook though they have not been updated and thus are not legal in competitive play.

Everything else is fair game though, and with the updated allies system I'd wager pretty much all old high/wood/dark elf armies can still be used. It can just be a little confusing because to recreate an old-school WHFB dark elf army, for example, you have to look at Darkling Covens, Order Serpentis, Shadowblades, Scourge Privateers, and Daughters of Khaine.

Dark Elves (Darkling Coverns) and Wood Elves (Wanderers) both have proper allegiance abilities, although as others have said they’re still pretty fragmented.
I’m very much holding out for a unified Aelf book.
I think splitting factions into many tiny subfactions was a choice someone made back in the “we dont know what we’re doing early days of AoS, and I feel the Legions of Nagash, Goblins and the new Skaven battletome point to GW being willing to roll that choice back into more unified territory.

I played Gorechosen for the first time last night, and it was a blast. We only had three players which felt a little unbalanced (there were a lot of times when one player would get ganged up on during a turn), but it's definitely the sort of game where you can get up to some real shenanigans depending on which cards you get and hiw the turn order goes.

One thing that is cool is that when a player dies, they still get turns (although fewer than living players), and they roll dice to see what their fans in the stands will do (anything from distracting another fighter with their chants to throwing things at another fighter still in the pit to damage them to impressing Khorne to the point where he allows the dead fighter to come back for a turn), so even if you're dead you still get to play instead of just sitting there.

There are review vids for both FECs and Skaven books out now too, there looks to be some pretty strong stuff in both! I kinda wish they'd taken the opportunity to trim some of the old models out of the Skaven range, but as they're not adding any new unit kits I can understand not doing so.

Cos I don't want to be looking at a swanky new army book and working out which models are going to be a nice easy plastic kit and which are going to be mono-pose metals from 20 years ago, or explaining same to any potential would-be new players of an army!

When it comes to Warhammer, if you're not playing a new faction or a poster boy faction than you are probably going to have to deal with ancient metal or resin sculpts. This goes doubly so if you're on a budget or if it's a horde army. Spire of Dawn has been the cheapest way to start a Skaven army in a long time and those models are a decade old. I don't think any of the Skaven models look particularly dated except for the Rat Ogres and the Night Runners, but most people I see running Ogres are using the Island of Blood/Spire of Dawn models and both kits are plastic anyway.

Part of the charm of the hobby for me is finding an old ass metal sculpt of a model that I think looks cool for $9 online that saves me from having to pay $25-$35 for the modern equivalent.

So I played like my ... 2nd? real game of AoS yesterday and had a great time! I think I really like this system you guys. Even double turns didn't seem as bad as before and boy howdy they were my biggest problem with AoS 1.0

Took my Stormcasts out for a spin and played against Tzeench, the god of gains and his shredded minions. My friend is a pretty experienced player so was nice took a bit of a non-optimised royal sampler to give me a fair game. Had a good fight and in the end my Thundercats won me the day by making a long bomb charge on an Ogroid Thaumaturge and managed to kill him to take an objective.

We were just doing 1500 to ease me in so I had:

    Lord Arcanum on Thundercat
    -Pride Leader
    -Armour of Silvered Sigmarite
    -A command trait I forgot

    Castellant
    Relictor

    3 Evocators on Thundercats
    5 Evocators
    5 Liberators
    5 Liberators
    10 Sequitors

    Everblaze Comet.

So, suggestions on how to expand it to 2k and refine it a bit? The internet seems down on Thundercats, but they've been MVPs in both games I've played with them and all my tournament going friends really rate them. I can try the Arcanum on Birb-Horse, but the Thundercats mount trait to give other thundercats +1 to hit is pretty bonkers good. I really do like the Stardrake, so I'd be tempted to fit one in there. But I'm not sure how well it would work with the rest of the army. I'm pretty much after any advice about running Stormcasts in general.

A friend of mine delivers pizzas for a living and got robbed during his shift last night. The guy got around $50 in cash as well as his backpack and Battle Case out of his car. This morning he found most of his stuff behind a dumpster not too far from the area, but the case was still gone and his models were smashed to shit. A Repulsor, some Reivers, and a bunch of the new Moonclan models were thrown all around, still MIA was a few Intercessors and the Godsworn Hunt warband.

He came over earlier today, another friend of ours who runs a small Warhammer store hooked me up with a free Darkoath warband for him and I gave him my old battle case and some Nighthaunt dudes to put in it. I told him to bring all of his busted stuff and we sat down and did some extensive model rehab, between replacement bits, additional basing terrain pieces, and a judicious amount of glue we got pretty much everything that he had found back into playable condition (which was no small feat considering how finicky the new squig models are). There was one grot arm that he didn't find though, but luckily we were able to find a replacement grot arm in one of my bits boxes:
    z0iSjxE.jpg

I mean grots are grots, right? Chalk it up to warp shenanigans I guess.

Anyway, I want to remind everyone to be vigilant about what you leave in your vehicles, regular GW cases look very similar to gun/tool/musical instrument cases and could very easily be confused for items that are easy to fence by shitheads who will then throw them away once they realize that they don't have any 'value'.
