I like Runaways but it's so far from the comic storyline to me that I've sort of lost interest, since they seem to want to kind of spin out the status quo for as long as possible.

I think the back half of the second season does a lot to try and change the status quo

And having reread the original comic within the past year, distance from the comic storyline feels like way more a plus than a minus

    "Rorshach Kringle"

    I... haven't finished it yet

    same here

putting a whole season up, it turns out, makes me go through at a snail's pace

The second season definitely distances itself from the comics much better than the first season handled it

They're hour long episodes, I think that's a big part of why I haven't finished. Plus, Kingdom Hearts came out.

My favorite Marvel TV show so far is definitely Cloak & Dagger, though. Especially since I believe they said they'll actually be superheroes in the next season

Some changes that I preferred in the comics:
I preferred the parents worshipping a weird elder god rather than some alien goo boy
I preferred the parents all getting murdered rather than staying on as recurring semi-protagonists
I liked the Alex twist, which it seems like the show is not doing (it would be fucking weird now tbh

I only read the first trade of Runaways, and I think the show is still great at just being its own thing. I do wish they'd covered some of the stuff I liked in the comics more, though.

I bounced off of Cloak and Dagger in a big way. It started really promising and by the back half of the season it felt like it was spinning its wheels and backing down from its initial assertions real hard. I finished it out still, but I was not impressed.

I do love the elder god version of the Gibborim, yeah, even if they look super fucking goofy in the comics. Given their slow play of the superpower levels and the very direct Scientology parallel, I can see why they switched it, but I was also disappointed with that back in the first season. And at this point it feels like they could actually get away with just having some elder gods, which makes it sting a bit more.

But I love the parents, and while I think the Alex twist was good, I think their more complicated depiction of betrayal is way better.

I had the opposite reaction. The back half made up for the first half to me.

I just wanna see teens with superpowers use/embrace them!

The BKV run has aged a bit poorly

Its not, like, ghastly or anything now but it doesn't feel nearly as fresh or exciting as it did when it came out

The Whedon run is hot garbage

The current run is very good and funny but also something I think @Rorshach Kringle would probably hate

    CYpGAPn.png

I respect the BKV run for how many people it got into comics, but I wasn't those people, so for me it just feels like a fun self-contained superhero book (yes it technically isn't self-contained because the characters continue to exist after it, but it doesn't feel like you need a lot of outsider knowledge). I can recognize that it does some good work and I find parts of it and the circumstances surrounding its creation very interesting, but it's not my book, y'know?

I felt like the original run of Runaways did everything it needed to and didn't feel the need for more of it. That's a good thing though.

So after concluding my Xena: Warrior Princess episodic updates on Facebook, I set up a poll yesterday for folks to vote on which show I will, in a similar manner, do next. The two options given were Hercules: the Legendary Journeys vs. Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.

A day later and Lois & Clark is dominating that poll.

It is very likely that I will be watching four seasons of the best live-action Superman.

My poll ended, with 66% of people voting for Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.

    Time for mega-sexy Clark Kent.

so Melvin Gregg, the guy that played DeMarcus in season 2 of American Vandal, is in Steven Soderbergh's new movie High Flying Bird

and his character has a relationship with Zazie Beetz' in the movie, and I thought huh isn't there a bit of an age difference here

and now I learned that not only is he not even close to his American Vandal character's age (he's 30!), he's actually older than HER (she's 27!)

So I had both of their ages wrong both ways

We finally started the third season of The Magicians on Netflix and a. I really like this show and b. I feel a little guilty that one of the reasons I like it so much is because the cast is so gorgeous but goddamn

Third season is legit my favourite - the writers have stopped any attempt at sticking to the book narratives and are just going headlong for whatever seems most fun. Plus Eliot gets a lot of great moments.

He could be the Perelta from the time of peak Hitchcock and Scully. Or maybe the Boyle.

If you can travel back in time and get Bruce Willis from 25 years ago then that’s a good get.

Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.

I think it's my favorite too. I liked the previous seasons plenty, but season 3 kind of blew me away.

    When they did the...
...telepathic musical number and all sang Under Pressure I almost lost it. Legit chills mixed with fits of laughter. They sang the whole song! It was fucking amazing.

I want him to be a a Boyle. Specifically an uncle but he does the Joker voice so everything he says is (more) unintentionally creepy than Charles.
