Is it really a comeback if he never left in the first place?
He basically went quiet for a year after the allegations first bubbled up after Bright
I don't know if that even counts. That's a vacation by Hollywood standards.
It was a pretty intentional move, he went completely silent on all social media and had no work announced after years of having like 6 scripts going at any given moment
Dude was intentionally letting everything blow over and now is trying to come back
If he was going to do that coming back with a #metoo movie is both something I can understand but also the stupidest possible thing he could have done.
He's hardly the first person to do that sort of tone-deaf thing.
What if instead of just CGI-ing scarily too-real anthropomorphic animal people, the roles were all played by people but they were wearing costuming to represent the animals from the original?
An unironic yes, and also a hell yes to whatever creepy fox mask someone manages to find in the time it takes me to post this.
I finally saw Shoplifters. I’m a big Kore-eda fan so I’ve been looking forward to it for a long time. I loved it. So beautiful, kind, but never sentimental. It captures so much of what makes his later family dramas work, but it cuts deep in a way that he hasn’t in more than a decade.

Oh it ain't tone deaf. Dude knows exactly what tone he's setting and I would be shocked if it wasn't intentional.
And the fact that he's actually getting work shows it's not as stupid a move as it should be.
Finally got around to finishing off Hold the Dark, just so I could knock it off my list and boy, that was a wet fart. It's not like awful but... Saulnier is doing True Detective eps right now, hope he takes a little breather and can come back with something less up it's own ass.

I like Murder Party and Green Room. Green Room is definitely the better of the two, but I had a lot of fun with Murder Party.

despite maintaining that its existence was wholly superfluous up til it happened to be on Netflix, I gotta say, folks
solo was a great time
and it’s in large part due to alden ehrenreich!!!! the damn lead?!?! I was as surprised as you are
I didn't like Murder Party but it's been a long time since I've seen it.
I like Blue Ruin and Green Room is VERY good. Hold the Dark feels like Blue Ruin with like x10 on the budget and Trying to Tell a Serious and Real Thing and it just didn't work for me. Blue Ruin worked because it was so spare and simple and is, essentially, revenge and digging two graves.
Didn't Saulnier only do the first three episodes of True Detective S3? I thought he and Nick Lottapizza (I'm not looking up his spelling right now) had a falling out on set?

Blue Ruin just left me tired. Basic ass revenge thrillers often do, honestly. I've seen it before, I've heard the moral lesson, it's dark and everything hurts and I get it.
Murder Party has the same dark comedy elements that Green Room does, for me. It's more of a comedy, actually, because the whole plot is comedic (it's about conceptual artists competing to find the most inventive and original way to murder a total stranger). Maybe it just works for me because I've hung out with terrible artists as often as I've hung out with dirtbag punks, but I really dug it.

It very well might be but Im gonna be optimistic and hope that he and the people backing him up get pulverized for this. From a pure business move Im sure getting ScarJo for Ghost in the Shell seemed like a good idea but that ended up being something of a tipping point where whitewashing is actually getting punished at the box office. Im gonna hope that the audacity of being an abuser and without even making a token attempt at apology and self-improvement making a #metoo movie proves punishing.
I really don’t get it. Some of these shitty guys whose actions are starting to catch up with them have had incredible careers and done great work. It’s a gross failure of our culture that their renown delayed any justice, but they had renown. I get how that can cloud people’s judgement, even if it shouldn’t.
I came by my Max Landis hate honestly because I saw three different, unrelated works of his that I did not know were connected by the same person and hated them with a memorable intensity.

If and when True Detective s4 comes around I'll be shocked if any talented director works with Pizzolatto
watching people react to reading shocker: legit for the first time is maybe the purest form of schadenfreude i can think of
it's just terrible and it throws me for a loop every time i remember it was a thing

At first I thought you were talking about the classic 1989 horror film and I was gonna beg to differ on that.
It's a real frog boiler too because you can get through a couple of pages going "oh that's an interesting idea for a story" and it just gradually heats up the stupidity until Shocker is commenting on Black Cat's breast implants

You can’t just say shit like this with zero context.
I don't think Tube would appreciate me posting some of these stories.

Gus, it is just very annoying when you act coy about something you have no intention of elucidating on.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.

Everybody go see Shoplifters.

Murder Party can be fun but it runs a bit long for my taste.
I prefer trivia-based Jackbox games to be quick plays.

Having John Landis for a dad probably keeps a lot of doors open in Hollywood.
But Max Landis just fuckin sucks.
He’s an awful person and his later output was bad.
Edit: sorry, I shouldn’t make those accusations here.
The writing or whatever though...fuckthatguy.

Yup. Keeping the trapper shut.
