I literally JUST finished listening to the We Hate Movies on The Happytime Murders, wherein they remember Crank Yankers and state that at least this movie bombing means we won't go back to the "inappropriate puppet" well any time soon and one of them warns that they're tempting fate

Per a press release from Comedy Central, the network has ordered 20 episodes of a slightly updated series, which will fold in social media and e-sports platforms because both arenas could definitely benefit from just a little more trolling.

    ugh yuck barf

    - russian doll was so good. i didn't realise how short the season was so it was exactly the moment i reflected on how good the show was getting these last two episodes when it ended. tonally clever, some understated philosophy, and an iconic protagonist. loved it all, peak tv etc

    - i just watched the alara's homeworld episode of the orville and the anecdote about the actor leaving does not surprise me at all. tbh the whole thing has given me a misogynistic vibe from the premise out, but i'm kinda bound to watch it now because my partner's a huge trekkie and it's the current thing after the kids go to bed. i'll expect mcfarlane to write in more hot space babes so mcfarlane can cast more young women for mcfarlane to make out with, on screen and/or off

    - the catch-22 trailer looks good. heavy, which i suppose is natural, but they could have sold it a different way. i was expecting more colour, maybe: the palette seems pretty flat. WAIT clooney is sheisskopf now!? i'm not sure about that

Going through the expanse again and all I can think of is how someone should be throwing some money at a Mobile Suit Gundam series. Well that and the expanse is still pretty good.

Ah yes The Jerky Boys, the only people doing the fake crank phone call who were ever even remotely fucking funny.

Crank Yankers mostly doesn't hold up, but I'll be damned if the Wanda Sykes ones weren't pretty terrific. I had tears in my eyes as she fishes for a reward from a bank employee after telling them that they had an ATM spitting out money, but refuses to say where.

Crank phone conversations aren't funny and neither are puppets, so I'm sure combining the two will produce solid gold again.

prank calls are dumb but harmless at best, but more commonly they're about making life worse for wage slaves for your own entertainment so uh, yeah, fuck Crank Yankers

I listened to one where DJ shock jockeys tried to convince a woman her husband was cheating on her and had been caught and fired for banging his secretary. It was mean-spirited and awful.

That woman also revealed that now she didn't feel bad about cheating on him with his brother, which like, I guess in the spirit of justice it's good that's out but whoops we broke up a marriage.

Aziz Ansari at his return show
He began by saying that he loves being back in New York. He recalled a guy on the street telling him he loved his Netflix show, only to realize he was talking about Hasan Minhaj’s Patriot Act. The guy quickly realized his mistake. “‘Oh, no, Aziz, right?’ Yeah, yeah, that’s me. ‘Master of None!’ Yeah, yeah, that’s me. ‘Parks and Rec!’ Yeah, yeah, that’s me. ‘Treat yourself!’ Yeah, yeah, that’s me. ‘And you had the whole thing come out last year — sexual misconduct?’ No, no, no, no, no, no, that’s Hasan!”

From there, Ansari sat down, and his voice turned somber. He told the audience that there are two reasons he hasn’t really talked about that “whole thing” much, referring to the story that came out last year on Babe.net accusing him of sexual misconduct. First, he said, he wanted time to process and determine what he wanted to say. Second, “it’s a terrifying thing to talk about.” “There were times I felt really upset and humiliated and embarrassed, and ultimately I just felt terrible this person felt this way,” he continued, his voice wavering. “But you know, after a year, how I feel about it is, I hope it was a step forward. It made me think about a lot, and I hope I’ve become a better person.” Ansari recalled a conversation in which a friend told him it made him rethink every date he’s been on: “If that has made not just me but other guys think about this, and just be more thoughtful and aware and willing to go that extra mile, and make sure someone else is comfortable in that moment, that’s a good thing.”

That guy was on a show I was working on once, and everyone knew he was going to do some fucking prank and was ready for it, because he sent us an email saying he was definitely not going to do a prank. The cameras were set up so he could be completely cut out, instantly, and not even be in view. Anyway, halfway through his interview he faked a heart attack and the vision mixer switched so fast that no one watching even saw it. The segment ended, we went on to something else and just left him there until he got up by himself.

I've always wondered how bad the jackass guys were in that regard. Like it always seemed like they didn't do stupid shit on interview shows unless they were prodded into it, or steve-o.

And it is 95% because he LOVED playing pranks but the second he was the target he became the whiniest baby in the universe

i thought he totally sobered up and probably changed a lot in the wake of his mate's death in a drunken wreck. i guess his legacy is his legacy though. i don't imagine he has much schtick left to run with. doomed to perpetually relive his guilt through on-screen persona...

I don't really like prank stuff unless, like Jackass, everyone is essentially in on the joke.

  • BlankZoeBlankZoe Registered User regular
The best Jackass material are the pranks that are so utterly cartoonish and ridiculous that the targets of them can only either be amazed or laugh at what just happened

The giant High Five comes to mind
