Yeah this is about the time of year my hayfever tends to ramp up really bad. I think the only reason it hasn't yet is because (for Dallas) it's been unseasonably cold.

First last year I was told I was going to be trained for a promotion, but then stuff happened which necessitated that spot being filled up faster than expected and they gave it to another co worker. When I talked to my supervisor about it, it was because I didn't take enough initiative..even though I wasn't told that was the plan.
Now I been training new 3 new people off and on, while doing my daily duties even though there's two other team members who could be assisting. It's generally cause I know the systems best and have an okay handle on my work stuff.
Finally, and shittiest, is that we transitioned to unlimited time off, as long as it was approved by management, and now they're saying that it's capped at 120 hours, aka 15 days.
3 weeks for sick and vacation time isn't the worst, but fuck that. We can't accrue extra time, I won't be able to cash it out if I leave the company, etc.
I have a big vacation in March, but afterwards I think I'm going to start job searching.

Yea it's not really unlimited if it's limited. It's just a shitty way to get around paying out PTO if your state or country forces the issue.
I answered ‘somewhat agree’ to having negative/depressive thoughts and it gave me 95% on anxiety and depression which is hmm and not really accurate at all.
Oh, and guess what? I have STILL NOT HEARD BACK FROM OUR PAYROLL COMPANY! What the actual fuck.

Is the unlimited PTO and "Cap" noted in the employee handbook? This kind of shit has to be well documented to be able to stand up in court.
Not only is that not unlimited, it's not even generous.

Only fifteen? That’s not unlimited.
24 is unlimited. Can’t go any higher than 24.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
Unlimited time off should come with minimum vacation stipulations that the employee must take, and a minimum vacation allowance that must be paid out at the end of the year or the end of employment.

I'm beginning to feel the onset of a cold because people, coworkers and customers alike, are completely incapable of properly covering their mouths when they cough, or, better yet, they cough directly into their hands and go around touching shit
I posted a picture of a potato festival to our lab group chat and one of my colleagues replied "Dammit, [tynic], now I have to go home and jerk off"
... i think he's forgotten our head of department is on that chat.

They recently made our call-in policy more lax, so I've been determined to make use of it (I was definitely one of those people who would come into work sick, out of fear of being perceived as 'lazy' or 'abusing the system' by my peers.)
It's hard to unlearn those attitudes though. I'll call in, then feel terrible for the entire day because I probably could have gone to work.
I knew a guy that worked for a company that had unlimited vacation time, and after 4 years you had a required 6 week sabbatical.
I don't know how the unlimited vacation time worked in practice, but 6 weeks off paid sounds pretty nice.
In the UK financial industry (maybe it's everywhere, I don't know) you have to take a certain amount of holiday each year and something like two weeks of it has to be consecutive. The reason for this is that two weeks is long enough for any of your fucking schemes to unravel if you're not there to tend to them, so it discourages malfeasance.

Man, I never thought of that.

Yeah that is a ridiculously inappropriate thing to write in your work chat.
One time at a company I worked at (not this one) an employee posted an AIDs joke in main chat, and I posted a grimace smiley in response. When they got their HR write-up, it included the sentence "Another employee (Patrick) responded by posting a grimace smiley, a reaction that scales roughly to a regular employee throwing their desk out of a window".

Two weeks gone really is a good number, at any job. after a week someone usually has to pick up the absent workers slack and if there is any bullshit it becomes readily apparent.
At the beginning of the year my boss flat out told me that I should take a week in February because things were going to get crazy and he couldn't be sure if/when time would be approved further down the line. Was kind of nice to get the heads up, so I'm off the rest of this week and Monday - Mexican wine country bound am I.
I should look into the PTO cap laws etc as a person living in CA but whose work is in AZ.
I've gotten ~20 PTO days, or 10 PTO 10 sick everywhere I've worked....but also, everywhere I've worked has been rather lax on the "you can ONLY take this many days per year". In reality, they seem to treat it as unlimited PTO...which honestly always seems like the best option for everybody. "Are you a responsible adult? Do you get your work done? Cool. Take whatever time you need."

I'm taking a week off starting in precisely two weeks. I don't have any plans, but my AVL was about to cap at 240 hours accrual. This isn't as effective an assault on my vacation bank as it would be without my 16 hours of annual floating holiday, and it doesn't touch my 200+ hours of sick leave.
I know these numbers seem really piddly to workers in civilized countries, but here in America it's worth doing a respectful Public Service Dance every morning of my upcoming week of sloth.

I could totally go for a week of sloth. I had a day of sloth today and it wasn't enough.
On the one hand, I accrue lots of PTO and have lots of PTO and my job does not pay it out
On the other hand, I can't trust these folks to tend the shop without me having loads of catchup work that I don't want to do. And then I don't get free food.
They cash out at the end of the fiscal year what PTO you have above 40 hours
The week they did this the managers made fun of how they had to pay me over 280 hours for the time I did not take because I was being told we need you to cover for blank or some other person

Nobody needs to go home and jerk off when there's a perfectly good pod available.
