Note that Scalebound went through development hell, and Microsoft likely had too much of a hand in it, which affected how it ended up looking and playing.
I figure a revived Scalebound would be closer to the original vision.
Yeah I imagine theyd have to rework a ton anyway so the demos weve seen might as well not matter

I'm sure I'm late to the party on this but wow is Horizon Chase Turbo stupid fun. It's impossibly fast at times but it runs silky smooth and is bright and colorful and great.
On the other side of things, just how brutally hard is wargroove? Is it still fun for more of a casual fan of the genre?

Don't tease me with this thought of a Scalebound return. Don't play with my heart. It's not fair.

Yup. Dial it back to something workable for the hardware.
My comment on Microsoft is based on some reporting I remember reading indicating that they had made requests for stuff like multiplayer that affected the vision for the game. I can't recall where exactly I read that though, so I hedged on that.

I scarcely understand them myself, but the layman's version, from one layman to another, is that they loosened the movement restriction on the pieces such that if there is a position they could reasonably reach by rotating, they're allowed to move there (as opposed to requiring the target spaces after rotating to be free). This lets you do some bizarre wiggles where the T-piece winds up inside of a gap that seems unreachable by normal movements. Spinning a T-piece into place in this way and clearing three lines is considered more valuable than a plain Tetris using the line piece.
My favorite musical instrument is the air-raid siren.

after going like 6/7/11/14/6 i have won my first game, my 12th try. this is hard as hell and it feels like I just got lucky to not get swarmed at the end but I'll take it.
Just don't let Yoko Taro near it or the protagonist will end up having sex with the dragon.
I know he likes to collab with Platinum.

Where does this come from?I 've seen people say this about Drakengard 1, but I've seen that game played and its cutscenes. If he intended for there to be an outright romantic tone between Caim and the Red Dragon, it was super buried, to the point of basically not being there.

I'm going off old memories, but the relationship between Caim and the Red Dragon was far more tender in Drakengard 2. But I'm also pretty sure Yoko didn't have much to do with that one?

To the Best of my knowledge none of the Drakengard games had any dragon-on-man action but what with the cannibalism, implied pedophilia, incest, child murder, and assorted flower unpleasantness, really being a dragonfucker would be like the least of your problems.

Drakengard 1 ending A implies that Angelus has romantic feelings for Caim and he's actually concerned for her welfare as she sacrifices herself to save the world. Drakengard 2 picks up from there with Caim intentionally destroying the (shitty) peace of the world to save Angelus.
Picked up Chasm since it was on sale with the last of my entertainment budget for the month and after about six hours of playing it i can safely say "This game scratch's that metroidvania itch but it does nothing overly special."

There are 3 different difficulty sliders that let you pretty much make the game as easy or as hard as you wish, however changing it from the default limits your ability to earn stars. In the upcoming patch the difficulty options will be changed to this:
Additionally, thanks to player feedback, Chucklefish have changed the game to have five difficulty presets rather than a slider – Story, Easy, Medium, Hard (default) and Custom. As Hard is the default, it is the only mode where S-ranks can be earned. On the opposite side of the spectrum, Medium allows up to 3 stars, Easy mode allows up to 2 stars, and while Story mode is easy enough to breeze through, players are limited to 1 stars.
As far as the default difficulty, it depends on the mission. Some are quite difficult but most of those are side missions.

I mean, it’s not like Nintendo needs help with a new episode of How to Bone Your Dragon. Fire Emblem’s right there. And I’m pretty sure it’s implied that the Founder in Dragalia Lost totally did too.

Scalebound was probably one of my top 3 games I was most hyped about for XBO (along with Sunset Overdrive and Quantum Break). Typically, RPGs with real-time combat, the combat is ... serviceable, but never really that great. I was hoping Scalebound might change that, and perhaps encourage other RPG devs to step up their combat game.

Moonlighter is wonderful. It's both a shop sim and a zelda-like dungeon crawler, with a tetris-y inventory rules system that push you into actually caring where loot is actually slotted in your bag.
It's dope, but I think players with OCD might struggle with choosing which items to keep vs which to sell. I personally love it.
Everyone says Owlboy is gorgeous art wrapped around a bad/boring game. Moonlighter is supposed to be pretty good though.
Not bad/boring. Just... Not amazing. If it hadn't gotten so much initial hype, I think it would have become one of those semi obscure indie games with a small but loyal fanbase's because it struck a cord with them.
I'm tempted by Owlboy too, but I feel like I want something different. After reading about the difficulty on Wargroove I'm sort of turned off to the game. Developers putting too much focus on playing a game super difficult to get full credit really pisses me off so I might skip it at this point.
What other games might deserve my $30 in eShop fun moneys? Maybe a nice rpg? Maybe Thimbleweed or the Gardens Between? More Pinballs?

Not everyone loves Nintendo Life but they play almost everything that comes out on the system and rank them against each other, so this might be a reasonable list to look through for their best reviewed stuff.
If you're looking for pinballs and don't already have Epic Quest, that's a good table. Unlike every other pinball table there's persistence on level and gear between plays so there's a sense of progression, and it's fun.
Embarrassingly the only tables I don't have for pinball is the most recent set of Williams. I figure I'll probably pick them up this week, no reason not to have a complete set at this point.
Holy crap - has anyone played City of Brass? It looks really good.

If you're looking at RPGs and can wait a month, a few things are coming out in March. Off-hand there's Caligula Effect: Overdose, Nelke and the Legendary Alchemists, and The Princess Guide.
Trials Rising is launching on February 26, and you'll be able to take it for a spin for free during the Open Beta from February 21 to 24 on Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Whether you're picking out the swiftest line to the finish or seeing how many backflips you can execute in a single jump, the Open Beta will offer 18 tracks, ranging from easy to extreme difficulty, including four tracks designed to help you work on your technique.
In addition to competing against your own times, you can race in online multiplayer on eight tracks, or take on Contracts and see if you can score extra rewards by completing optional objectives. Try out the co-op Tandem bike for some comical two-player action, or work to unlock the Helium Bike with the exclusive Turbo Bike Exhaust, which will be yours in the full game if you earn it during the Open Beta. You can pre-load the Open Beta starting on February 19.
Trials Rising is scheduled for a February 26 release on PS4, Nintendo Switch, PC, and Xbox One.
Not sure if anyone knows the answer to this (although it's probably easy to figure out by just paying attention) but in Tetris 99, is the order of shapes the same across the lobby or just completely random? Seeing how peoples towers developed despite being given the same tools seems intriguing to me, and certainly seems more fair, but at high level play maybe everyone's tower ends up too samey for that to work.
That’s interesting. I’m honestly not sure how I feel about that since I thought Scalebound looked pretty awful from the last teaser/trailer they had produced (for E3, I guess 2017?).
I guess I like the idea of Nintendo reaching out and doing stuff like this in a general sense. And good for people who wanted Scalebound. But unless it’s vastly different from what I saw, all else being equal, I’d rather platinum focus their efforts on something else.

I'm taking that article with a pile of salt, to be honest, but it'd be neat if Nintendo revived another dead Platinum franchise.
Now give me my Infinite Space 2, you cowards!
