I recognize the first scene from a Jackie Chan movie. Maybe Who Am I or Gorgeous.

I recognize moments from the 2nd scene too but can't place it.

I don't know if anyone else is going to watch this video because it's an hour long but I thought it was good. Peter Coffin addresses the lingering (!) trolling from being catfished on Twitter 8 years ago, callout culture, and his own harmful behavior.

Didn't notice when Werewolf posted it, but I started crying 30 seconds, progressed to full blown ugly cry by minute 1, didn't stop until several minutes after it finished.

God... This really old friend of mine is making these animated shorts now, I guess in the vein of like a Cyanide and Happiness maybe? Only they're just... They're really not very good. And, like, I'd never give criticism like that, but I am struggling to find things to tell him that I like about it. I'm trying to the ol compliment sandwich thing, good thing bad thing good thing, but the good things are like "you really have some dynamic poses on the characters!", Like really basic things he got marginally correct, but... It's not good. The jokes are old, the art style is... I'd call it a mix of Simpsons and Sweet Bro and Hella Jeff but with much more effort put in than SB&HJ, which doesn't actually do it any favors really.

It sucks because like... I can't give an honest opinion because my honest and unvarnished opinion of my friend's art is that it is very bad and that they have some fundamental issues to overcome before they can improve and I have NO IDEA how to go about telling someone that. Especially since this dude has had a super rough go of it lately. Like, I want to give my friend a helpful and honest critique but I don't know where to start without sounding like I'm tearing his efforts apart foundationally.

I have! I was like "wow this a pretty good cartoon for someone with a big dumb butt how bout them digits" and that did work to be fair but we're still in the same situation!

Lots of people love Cyanide and Happiness and it's complete garbage so maybe you just have good taste. That doesn't mean there's no audience for your friend's work.

I ended up playing a round of the C&H card game with my family over Christmas (brother bought it at a secondhand store). It was absolutely repulsive, more so than Cards Against Humanity (which I also really dislike).

  • #pipe#pipe Cocky Stride, Musky odours Pope of Chili TownRegistered User regular
Yeah the C&H card game is hilarious in that it shows clearly that random chance creates perfect replicas of their cartoon.

You can just say "it's not really my kind of thing, sorry man, not my table". Any artist at any level should be ready to hear that, if he isn't, he isn't cut out to be an artist.

I didn't/don't really know who this guy is but thought this was an interesting video. It's good to get a take on "call outs" etc from someone who was exposed to it but also didn't really do anything wrong*.

*He points out that he did do things wrong, like making shitty racist jokes, and those weren't what he was called out for because the fake girlfriend thing was funnier.

Unfortunately it is definitely the writing in C&H that is the garbage I was talking about.

    at least they won. somehow.

that part was truly incredible, 6-3-1 with the 10 saddest punts of all time, and one of the losses that team went on to win 10 straight games and won the super bowl. that ravens game with the 2nd worst and 17th worst punt minutes apart from each other is amazing.

I'll need to watch that Jon Bois later. I don't even like sports but he makes such an interesting narrative that I always find his videos entertaining.
